  • Midway through his performance at the FEA-curated THE ESSENTIAL TM KRISHNA IN CONCERT, Krishna performed a charming little nugget composed by the "King" of Haripad that was inspired by Kalidasa's Megha Sandesham. The piece was put to tune by Sangeetha Sivakumar.
Krishna was accompanied by Akkarai Subhalakshmi on violin, Manoj Siva on mridangam and Anirudh Athreya on kanjira. Tanpura support was provided by Jayant Naidu and Sarang Phagre.

Mayoora Sandesham - the famous Malayalam poem... written in the model of Kalidasa's Meghasandesham .

Aakarathil sushama ithupol ethu pakshikku paril.....
See how a peacock elucidates the beauty of the erstwhile Ananthapuri...the Capital of Travancore Kigdom, the present Thiruvananthapuram through a fun keerthanam!!! ......in Malayalam !!!
Kerala Varma Valiya Koyi Thampuran's... Mayoora Sandesham - the famous Malayalam poem... written in the model of Kalidasa's Meghasandesham ...few slokams beautifully transformed into a Carnatic composition! The Mayura Sandesham refers to the hard times of exile, through Mayura (peacock)! As per history, his family had fled Malabar and sought refuge in Travancore during the invasion of Tipu Sultan towards the end of the 18th century. After peace was restored, however, his Parappanad Royal family agreed to accept a pension from the British government as also from the Travancore government but stayed back in the latter state. Although the Koil Thampuran was born at Changanacherry, his family subsequently moved to Haripad and settled at the Ananthapuram Palace. In 1859 he was married to Her Highness Bharani Thirunal Lakshmi Bayi, the adopted niece of Uthram Thirunal, then Maharajah of Travancore. His marriage thus brought him into close association with the Travancore Royal Family. Later, however, through palace intrigues and personal disaffection with the Maharajah Ayilyam Thirunal, he was confined at Haripad forcefully in 1875, only to be released and reunited with his wife in 1880 by Maharajah Visakham Thirunal. This said Poem was penned while he got separated from his wife for four years. Although he was under a solitary confinement, he was allowed to visit the nearby Harippad Subramanyaswamy Temple. It is believed that the peacocks of the said temple inspired him to write the peacock message. When Visakha Thirunal came to power after Ayilyam Thirunal, Thampuran was released and then wrote a 'peacock message'/Poem at the Thiruvananthapuram palace. The manuscript of the Peacock Message is kept at the Ananthapuram Palace at Harippad. The date on which the lord began writing is first added to this. The Malayalam year 1069 started with Medam One (1895). Gemini finished at five
TM Krishna's rendition is so melodious indeed. best wishes .

If I get one meeting with these artists who have joined the religious Conversion & Break-India group, I am sure, they will not do what they did earlier and those who have reached a higher levels of consciousness would public announce that a Rasika has opening their ignorant eyes & mind. My argument is simple. All the Rasika are infants & babies, crying for the attention of their mother. Mostly, the infants will cry violently and the babies will come and hit the mother and cry. These artists are
not understanding that the rasikas are reacting to the deserting of rasikas by these artists and the reactions will vary based on their stage from Infact to baby, little boy’ or little girl. It is painful & funny the counter reactions of the Artists. They say that BJP/RSS are behind the reactions of the rasikas. No doubt, BJP/RSS May take advantage of the situations but the rasikas’ reactions is a spontaneous one. For example, I have not called or threatened any of the artists. I can not do that. Because, I am their baby and I cry because my mother have left me high & dry. These heartless vultures do not have any emotions and they will actually desert anybody - mark my words, if they do not understand how pained the rasikas are and how can they have any degree of arrogance in dealing with an aggrieved Rasika. They should come down, console, say sorry and apologise and do whatever is. needed to assuage the feelings of the rasikas. We are fools. There umpteen number of young artists and it is time we desert these heartless vultures. I may be wrong and doing injustice to vultures. We expect that senior
artists also should have reached a higher levels of Consciousness which should tell them that the acquiring ஞானம் is the ultimate endeavour on an intellectual journey whereas these people are rejoicing over their knowledge & vidvat which gives them the arrogance to say I’ll of Rasikas. If we know the meaning of the Song Rama Bhakti Samrajyam in Suddha Bangala, by Saint Thyagaraja, people will learn how to treat others.

TMK has become so anti-hindu that he has started singing songs of how beautiful mosques in Kerala are "pallikoodam palladhu valadham palayam palli" means there is school and a mosque in palayam which is very beautiful. As if there are no beautiful temples in Kerala like Guruvayurappan temple and lot more and btw Akkarai Subbulakshmi's Violin is excellent.

You think temples are so entitled that carnatic musicians should only sing about it? What the hell is wrong if he sings a beautiful composition which has just ONE PHRASE about a mosque. He did not compose it and even if he did, how does praising the beauty of a mosque makes one anti-hindu. Worse was his comment on Brahmins eating free lunch at Temple...

TMK, why your deprecation about the Brahmins having free lunch in the temple. It was unnecessary belittling of the Brahmin community and Hindu temples as if ‘free’ lunch in the temple was only for Brahmins.
The comment about patronisers of music in the 18th and 19th century being more interested in music than governance is in very bad taste. Are you trying to imply that those who enthusiastically come to hear your cutcherrys are worthless people having no other work and that only those who have no other work of some importance need to listen to music generally and your cutcherry in particular.
I strongly suggest that you please open your mouth only for the fabulous music and not for anything else. Every time you open your mouth to articulate anything other than the kirthanas and ragas and swaras, you lose substantial number of well wishers otherwise!

Horrible. As if there is nothing else to sing in khamas. If the peacock came to Chennai, it will describe tmk singing dabbankoothu songs in besant Nagar slum. God save Carnatic music.

G Unnikrishnan the song only. Singing is great and so enchanting is the raga.

The CMA actually the song is a very good one. I am fascinated by tmk zeal to incorporate songs from all languages .. bengali, Malayalam etc other than Tamil and Telugu the musicians usually sing. I think we should respect all languages and tmk effort to bring more variety to his concert

I am sure at one point people would say such things about composers such as Swathi Thirunal, when only Dikshitar and Thyagaraja Krithis were sung. But now people recognize the beauty of these compositions
