I love using my reel mower. I love minding my business, putting on my music, and just doing my yard. Occasionally neighbors will come to offer aid with their noisy smelly machines but unless I'm inside, I really don't want to breathe in all those fumes. Mowing with my reel mower gives me such peace of mind and I know the Earth is happy. I use a Scotts and it's been fantastic but now I know more about mowing height, etc. Bumping into twigs is not common with my yard so that's not a big deal for me. I love using a reel mower! 🌸❤️💖
I love how early 2000s this looks I love it like im watching it on an old CRT TV with analog antenna signals.
I had to mow using a reel mower as a kid. It was orange, stainless steel, my dad got it at Sears. I was jealous of the neighbor's kids who had electric mowers. Later we moved to the burbs to a house with a bigger lawn and got a Honda walk-behind. I use lawn and garden tractor with a mower attachment today. I wouldn't go back to a reel mower, but if you have a town house with a small lawn out front they are ideal.
I looked for months to find a heavy duty push reel mower, but I just don't like all those stamped metal and plastic parts. . .so I ended up buying a vintage 18" Toro Sportlawn for $60 bucks off Craigslist. . .I had the reel professionally sharpened, gave the 2 1/2 h.p. Briggs & Stratton engine a tune up and I was ready for 1960s style mowing!!. .The cut is beautiful and the self propelled machine is very easy on your back :-)

I found a really nice Remington push mower, it's pretty new too, at the same garbage was a 1960s free spirit bicycle in great shape, I love antiques so I grabbed it right away

Reel mowers are great, but you absolutely have to stay on top of your cutting if that's all you're going to use. During the growing season, I cut my Bermuda at least 2-3 times a week with my Fiskars reel mower.

The reel mower would be a good idea for people who mow in the evening. (Like I do). It's quieter than a gas mower. I like that so I know I'm not bothering my neighbors with small children. How often do the blades need to be sharpened? How do you sharpen the blade reel?

yeah I usually mow in the evening, and my front lawn is mostly flowerbeds/crape myrtles, so my reel mower gets the job done. mowing tall grass is definitely not fun with those. I have to go over the grass like 2-3 times before it cuts right.
I still wonder how you sharpen the blades yourself. What tools are needed?

I live in the south and bremuda grass grows way to fast to use that. You would have to mow 2 or 3 times a week.

You’re not holding down the handlebar to release the engine brake
It doesn't brake the engine, it controls the butterfly valve in the carburetor. When the bail is open, the engine gets no air.
If you're out buying that. Might aswell pick up some Gas on the way for your lawn mower... lol.

@@expertnugget You can use solar panels/spare batteries to get buy this. Also, it is healthier for you, becuase with gas mowers one may be breathing in exhaust, which is harmful. Electric mowers as well tend to be more reliable than gas mowers.

@@expertnugget Internal Combustion Engines run on gasoline, you should know this. As a waste product, carbon dioxide and other chemicals are released as exhaust. And If one is using said mower without an isolated air supply, there is a high chance the user is breathing in a portion of said waste as it is gas. And, exhaust is bad for the lungs in a similar but less harmful way than smoking is.
