    • @MilorganiteFertilizer
      @MilorganiteFertilizer Před 18 dny

      You can topdress your lawn with compost at any time when the ground is not frozen, but if you topdress right after aerating a lawn, you will see even better results. Another great time to topdress with compost is when overseeding a lawn. Applying compost and seeds at the same time will improve germination and moisture retention. Is this a product I can use on a cool weather lawn for all 4 of my applications (spring, summer, fall, late fall) up in the high desert in the west? We have dry, hot temps in the summer and much cooler temps in the spring and fall. Thanks!

    • @MilorganiteFertilizer
      @MilorganiteFertilizer Před 18 dny

      For best results, we recommend applying Milorganite 4x per growing season (late spring, summer, early fall, and late fall). It contains no salts, which makes it safe to apply during the summer and in drought conditions when used as directed. The nutrients in Milorganite will be released when there’s enough water, and the temperature is right. This makes it an ideal fertilizer for water-restricted areas. Hi, When you use Milorganite fertilizer, you don’t have to worry about streaks, stripes, or accidentally burning your lawn! It contains virtually no salts, so it won’t burn your lawn, even in the hottest temperatures or driest conditions. We recommend applying Milorganite fertilizer to warm-season grasses, like Bermuda, in early June if you missed your late May application and again in late August or early September. Aerating your lawn can also help improve your lawn. Warm-season grasses can be aerated mid-spring through early summer while the grass is actively growing. Immediately after aeration, your lawn is ripe for overseeding and fertilizing. The holes provide excellent soil exposure for seeds and deliver fertilizer directly to the roots of your grass. Hello! Trees and shrubs surrounded by a lawn regularly fertilized will need little or no fertilization. They’ll get their nourishment when you fertilize the lawn. Those grown in planting beds or landscaped areas with no lawn may need to be fertilized, especially in sandy soils, which have little or no organic matter. The best way to determine whether your trees and shrubs need a nutritional boost is to have your soil tested. Your local county horticulture extension office will likely offer this service. If soil testing isn’t an option, look for indicators that your trees and shrubs may need to be fertilized: leaves that are pale-colored, smaller than normal, or dropping at odd times of the year, or twigs and branches that are dead or show stunted growth. No, it's not necessary to water in Milorganite after application, which is one of its great features. It stays on the soil until water and temperature conditions are just right for soil microbes to break down the nutrients in Milorganite for plants to use. Although not necessary, watering in Milorganite will ensure the fertilizer is in contact with the soil and speeds up the fertilization process.

    • @MilorganiteFertilizer
      @MilorganiteFertilizer Před 2 měsíci

      Hi, University research recommends 1 lb of Nitrogen per 1,000 sq ft. One 32lb bag Milorganite covers 2,500 sq. So, you will need about 2 1/2 bags of Milorganite for your lawn. At a rate of 8 lbs of Milorganite per 1,000 sq ft, you would need 48 lbs or 1.5 bags of Milorganite. @MilorganiteFertilizer Před 3 měsíci

      When you use Milorganite with other fertilizers, we caution you not to over-apply nitrogen fertilizer. Check the label of the product you applied for timing instructions. Typically, after 4-6 weeks, you can apply Milorganite. Milorganite doesn't contain salts, so it will not burn your lawn; however, your lawn can only take up so many nutrients. Over-fertilization can result in nutrient runoff into our waterways and waste money and time. Over-fertilization can also stress out the turf plant and cause disease issues.

      You can add fresh non-treated grass clippings to your compost pile. Another option is to leave short clippings on the lawn. They do not cause thatch but will break down quickly, adding moisture, nutrients, and organic matter to your soil. The grass pieces break down quickly and reduce the amount of fertilizer you have to use by as much as 25%.

    • @MilorganiteFertilizer
      @MilorganiteFertilizer Před 3 měsíci

      Hi, Spring is a good time to have your soil tested to check nutrient and pH levels. You can test the soil yourself using a store-bought kit or contact your local extension, which probably offers soil testing. Knowing the nutrient levels will help ensure you’re adding needed nutrients in the right amount. Grass grows well in slightly acidic soil, between 7.0 to 6.5 pH, allowing it to properly absorb nutrients. Sulfur is more acidic and is used to lower the soil's pH. Lime can be used for acidic soil to raise the pH, so the plant roots can absorb the necessary nutrients from the soil. Only amend your soil if it needs it and only at the recommended rates. Compost can naturally correct pH, which also adds nutrients and conditions soil to remain moist.
