    Love your channel/videography/quality of turf work. I actually just bought this mower after watching your video and was disappointed from the outset. I did the "paper' test and adjusted one end of the mower by adjusting the screws. Still left with windrows in the center of the mower and also on one side of the mower. It is fairly tall (3"+). Perhaps a cleaner and neater cut will be obtained with a shorter cut.

    • @Nathan-ho7vr
      @Nathan-ho7vr Před 3 lety +1

      It seems to be the general consensus online that reel mowers never give a great look when cutting tall (3"+). But one thing I know for sure is you have to cut often, reel mowers don't cut well at all when you are trying to take alot off all at one time.

    • @oswaldogarcia5358
      @oswaldogarcia5358 Před 3 lety +3

      Well when you use a reel mower you have to mow pretty often like every three days during spring and summer. If you don’t plan on mowing often just use a regular gas rotary mower, it won’t look as clean when but it gets the job done and can look good. Or use both lol i’m 17 and this became a hobby and what I do if I let it get tall is use the rotary then use my manual reel mower after cutting in a different pattern.

    dont collect better to let the clippings naturally rot down on ton top mulch is the way to go u remove the nutrients by collecting and also half the time u cant always tell if a lawn has been cut by collecting unless u walk right up close to it not collecting u can see its been recently cut im a mower expert

    • @robthegardener9631
      @robthegardener9631 Před 3 lety +2

      I agree. Boxing off the clippings is all well and good if your are prepared to spend the time and money putting fertilizer on the lawn but if not you will lower the soil fertility which will favour weed growth over grass growth.

    Hi. I do my parents yard. Their yard is 100% variety of different types of weeds. We had tried to renew the entire yard, but no success. Will this reel mower cuts down tall weed grass?! What's the warranty for Scott's brand reel mower?! I live in Texas. And I can't afford lawnmower overly crazy prices. There are many brands out there for reel mower. Which brands would you recommend the best?!

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  Před 5 lety

      Hi, in general reel mowers are not ideal for cutting tall grass/weeds. If you’re dealing with an overgrown weeds then a rotary mower is your best bet or a string trimmer.
      IMO as of april 2019 the best manual reel mower out there is the Fiscars Model # 362050-4003, it is much easier to use than the one I used in this video.

  • @normansosiawan3308

    Im considering to buy this, but it doesnt strip the lawn aint it?

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  Před 4 lety +1

      No it doesn’t, typically manual reel mower don’t stripe due to the lack of rear roller that folds the grass down thus creating a stripe effect.
      But this guy installed a roller on his manual reel and its creating some cool stripes.

      @SoDamTuf Před 4 lety

      This mower won't cut grass taller than about 4", even at the highest setting, and more likely not grass that tall at the lowest setting. It's due to the geometry of gaps between the blades on the reel and cutting across the relatively vertical blades of grass (more widely-spaced blades allow for cutting taller plants). This is a good reel mower....a real good real mower....and all reel mowers have to be adjusted correctly. Lots of videos out there on that topic. Keep trying!

      This is the only manual one I’ve use so I’m not sure. Double cut does help but you can still see it on certain angles. I noticed i don’t get chatter marks on my 2” fescue lawn, maybe it’s the height of cut or the grass type.

      I’m doing a renovation next summer. Around 1400 sqft. I’m aiming to use bluegrass and rye as well so I liked seeing your results. I wonder if adding a little weight or striping roller to the back would erase more of the chatter.

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  Před 5 lety

      Yeah striping kit would be a great addition to this mower but I don’t think it will help much with the chatter marks (at least at 1” hoc) maybe at 2” or higher 👍🏼 tbh i kinda like the chatter marks, the ripple looks pretty cool at night.

    @ErickNS1 Před 11 měsíci

    Works great! czcams.com/users/postUgkxprGGPRQoChQaA8u58dt7miEpxQBKiWeJ More difficult with longer grass, though, but I was expecting that. I have a small back yard, it seemed like overkill to buy a lawnmower with an engine. This is easy to carry in and out of the basement through the bulkhead. Very sharp (be careful). At the back of the mower are little wheels, which I use when pulling the mower backwards, so it's easy to readjust direction. I'm including a photo which shows the before and after for my lawn when it was at its longest. For long grass like that you really have to put some muscle into it, and I needed to go into a new section of grass with some momentum, but when the grass is only an inch or two higher than regular cut height it's quite easy. The lawn is still patchy and full of weeds, but at least it's a good height! A step in the right direction.
