This video was helpful. I could especially imagine what our north one of Indiana, just north of Fort Wayne, the old Robison Park was like (from 1890 until approximately 1928).

Back in the day there was an amusement park in my town.

Yes, Kathleen, we in Fort Wayne had Robison Park, north along St Joe River (west side of river). As these people have said, ours too is taken over by "housing" --some million dollar home is out there, completely taking over "the peninsula", which I am sure we referred to as the island. We had tunnel of love ride, dance hall, money-atop-the-pole, a huge Orchestrion and more. So sad, even though ACRES land trust saved this for awhile, that sometime between 2004 and 2011 this area was so torn up badly, one could not take trails for mushroom hunting any longer. It was a grand place, as this one, in its heyday.

You can still see parts of it. Housing developments have taken over.

There's not a whole lot left but it's still a pretty cool place to go. I can't wait until they invent the time machine lol
If you go just bear in mind you either need to be active and somewhat fit or give yourself plenty of time to get up the hill on the way back out of the park.
I wish they would have kept some of the Charleston Army ammunition plant before they demolished all of it.
Unfortunately progress and development will always get more funding than remembering history.

Us Hoosiers seem to take our history serious and we try our best to preserve it. And I fucking love that about us.
