    In the unbelievable world of abandoned buildings and retail stores closing left and right, no place is safe these days from massive corporations and companies closing their doors for good, and this massive casino cruise ship is no exception. In this episode, I'll gain access to the inside and show you what's left behind.
    So I hear there's this massive casino cruise ship in an abandoned boat graveyard, and I should be approaching it soon. It's one of the largest abandoned casino cruise in america and I cant wait to bring you along inside.

      Craps is a game. Chips/checks is the plastic round items you were throwing.The reason for all the cards is because they change them very very often, so cheaters don't mark them. Black jack pays 3 to 1. The slot handles wouldn't unlock because no money was entered.

    Apparently Blue Horizon Casino Cruises stopped operating in 2016, because of a new Florida gambling agreement, which meant that land-based casinos were finally able to offer craps and roulette. This was something that only ships like Blue Horizon could do before that agreement.

    Someone is obviously maintaining the generator as the fuel filter was last changed in August 2023 at 662 hours. When you showed the control panel for it, the hours had gone up again to 667 so it had obviously ran for 5 hours between August 2023 and present day

    • @big8news
      @big8news Před 11 dny +1

      Also you can see extension cord plugged in somewhere that's probably what was plugging in the light and that bottom floor area that's probably the main generator room or engine room to or at least a starting point to get the main power on

    • @bellztoll56
      @bellztoll56 Před 7 dny +4

      Agreed. 23 years in Navy as a Diesel Mechanic& Inspector, that engine has been maintained; quite well it seems. That is a Detroit Diesel 16V149TI, which has a positive pressure crankcase. It seeps oil almost continously, running or not. Someone's been maintaining that engine and keeping it wiped up. It could by "lay-up" maintenance, which means it's run once a month for 20-30 min and shut down. Its kept lubricated, filters changed routinely. Could be wrong, but I've seen Active Engine rooms look way worse. Just my 50 cents(inflation)
      Also, there would be some power needed for key engine functions (controls, sensors, indicators) Plus there needs to be some sort of starting mechanism, which if memory serves is pneumatic high pressure air set through a regulator to an air starter, requiring a 3000psi air compressor. Not enough power required to energize the main electrical grid. They may have a junction box on the pier feeding a smaller grid to power that stuff and minimal lighting. Also, didn't see cathodic protection(electrical anti-corrosion), but if that's installed, power demand too.
      Thanks for going down to the engine room! Too many of these urbex videos skip that.

    • @bellztoll56
      @bellztoll56 Před 7 dny +1

      Also, these engines were mainly generators, so either you have an engine providing power or you have 3 phase shore cables run to your shore power switchboard. Lose power, engine automatically starts and in some cases, automatically takes the electrical load. If not, they would have to have someone onboard to make the generator provide power.

      @@bellztoll56yeah definitely. These places are pretty neat. There's a couple pretty big ones near me and they basically have a complete history of 20th century boats and ships. They'll keep things maintained if they can be, until they sell, salvage or just scrap out what's left. They had a massive old tanker out a bit the last time I was there. Really wanted to try to get out and check it out. This reminds me to do that. Lol

    Management said the casino boat couldn't compete with new gambling rules in Florida that make more games available on land. The changes would allow land-based casinos to offer craps and roulette, something that was only previously allowed on Casino Ships. They spent $9 million fixing the boat when it was docked, plus another $1 million for employee salaries. The reviews are pretty horrible about the cruise experience when it was operational. The food in particular was reported as being terrible.

      @@big8news yes, the ship would be hooked up to shore power even if it wasn’t on during the time of filming - there’s an isolation switch in the bridge to shut that off most likely. The engines themselves would be able to be started on battery power, so the generator is really just for when they’re underway or anchored more so than when they’re docked.

    I rebuilt the Starboard main engine on that ship in May 2014 when it was operating out of the port of Palm Beach and it was named Island Breaze. My Freind was captain on the vessel for 2 years. Then the company who leased the ship went bankrupt. It was a dry lease charter so it went back to NURMI who owned the vessel. Then the vessel was released to a new venture. The port engine then failed shortly after. That is why the sailing was delayed. Then 2 new MTU 4000 series engines were installed in Jacksonville. The boat returned to Palm Beach and then that venture went bankrupt shortly after.

You never got to the Main engines I'm sure they have them one on the starboard side and the other on the Port side. The design of the twin hull is to make the vessel less rocking going on. In the wheel house the STB/ Port switches are for the pumps that help with the rudder movement if one set go's out they have back up Sort of like the ship that ran into the bridge. Hearing water running was just Odd being down there. Everything seems to be off? Could be a Water line has broken? Bilge water has sat up so long that it has soured. I sounds like the bread and butter for Blue Horizon was craps and roulette because it was not legal in Florida casinos. But that changed in 2016 making it impossible to compete with land casinos which have more amenities and dont require a reservation... Which is sad because it sounded like this was a good company to work for. They paid their employees for the 3 month lay up in 2015. only to fork out $9 million right before Florida changed the gambling laws. Sucks all around for them.
    "They announced the casino cruise will stop operating out of the Port of Palm Beach effective Wednesday.
    Management says the casino boat can't compete with new gambling rules in Florida that make more games available on land.
    "There are so many places you can gamble on the land, that unless you take a cruise and they have gambling there, a ship that just does gambling isn't going to survive," explained Tica Richardson."
    Robert Weisberg, with Blue Horizon, said the state of Florida has all but formally agreed to a new gambling deal, which allows land-based casinos to offer craps and roulette. This is something that only ships like Blue Horizon could do before the agreement."

    Thanks for posting this! It's amazing to see all that "hidden" stuff! Such a shame that all those slots are left to rot... They should have sold them! and at 25:28 - Yes, that was the network / server room. Those are probably all the communications for all the casino slots, games etc. It looks like the servers themselves are gone though.

      That's the generator not the main engines there in the bottom of the ship. My guess is they start it to run pumps to keep the boat from sinking. Someone is keeping an eye on it and how much water is in the bottom so they don't flood the new engines and when water starts get high they probably start the generator to pump the water out.

    The Blue Horizon Casino Cruises in Riviera Beach, Florida permanently closed in 2016 after announcing that it would suspend operations due to new gambling rules in Florida. The rules allowed land-based casinos to offer more games, making it difficult for the casino boat to compete. The company said that the casino day cruise industry in Florida could not compete with the land-based expansion of gaming.

    TaterTots380 was correct in that other land based casinos were opening up too much competition. The Horizon still had one advantage even still. The land based casinos could not offer games like craps and roulette because they were not licensed to have outcome decisions by a ball out dice. Because the Horizon could go into international waters, they could offer these two games.
