  • Replicating Soft Plastic Lures with Vac 50 Resin by Makelure com
    Vac-50 by makelure.com gives anglers a way to produce a soft plastic injection mold for a fraction of the cost of aluminum molds. This video demonstrates the following steps to guide you through making your own injection mold: (1) find/build a moldbox, (2) gather the necessary materials for your injection ports and vent lines, (3) Mix portion of Vac-50 according to instructions and pour first layer, (4) insert/embed lure and injection ports into resin, (5) allow to cure and drill locators, (6) spray liberally with mold release, (7) mix and pour second half of resin, (8) once cured, separate molds and demold originals; clean up ports/prepare mold for injection, (9) Reassemble mold and inject with Alumisol, (10) allow to cool, demold new lures, and remove flash.

    Hi guys, thanks for this vid! It might help me to solve a problem :) do you think it will work with a much larger grub or is there a risk it will sink in the half cured vac50? It is basically a very large grub. Thanks again!

    I know this is an old video but I'm wondering how this compares to a plaster mold, I want a nice smooth shiny finish and paster does just the opposite I don't want to pay a cnc shop to make one as that would be crazy expensive

    Have been looking into making a open pour swim bait mold using the vac-50. Will the vac-50 be able to handle heat such as being placed on a heating plate to keep mold hot for multi color patterns?

      Did you ever get around to making a mold ? If so how was the finish on the outside of your bait ? I use plaster molds and I can never get a smooth shiny finish.

    By your experience how durable is the vac 50 mold compared to machined aluminum. I need an application where the molds will be heated and withstand about 12 psi internal pressure once clamped together. Since they are epoxy with added aluminum powder I'd assume they could be stronger?

    • @MakeLure
      @MakeLure  Před 6 lety

      What temperature are you heating it to?

    • @strategicthinker8899
      @strategicthinker8899 Před 6 lety

      It's for faster curing of carbon fiber parts with internal bladders.
      Usually the temperature is 130 degrees Celsius but I know epoxy can only sustain 50 degrees or so max. I'm experimenting with non-machined molds and this looked promising. The problem is the temperature. I guess slower curing in the greenhouse sunlight would be better for parts in these molds and I could save some money on gas :) I'm guessing they would sustain the internal pressure of 80psi with cross member clamping?

      I think it would be best if you called and we talk through your application. Vac-50 may be a good candidate, but we need to talk trough it. Give us a call at 269-488-4000 and ask for Tech Support.

    how many molds can you make with the 5 pound set of vac 50... the lures would be a beaver style and senkos

    • @MakeLure
      @MakeLure  Před 8 lety

      2-3 depending on size of the lures and number of cavities per mold. Minimum mold thickness should be 1/4" per side.

    is there a kit for production molds with umr, vac 50, and synthetic modeling clay in it... if not can that be a thing

    • @donfowler6197
      @donfowler6197 Před 7 lety

      We do not have a specific kit for this. Each user tends to have slightly different needs, which is why a kit does not exist for this. Thanks for the question. Feel free to give us a call if you have further questions about this. 800-447-9344.

    is vac 50 good for creature style baits like a zoom brush hog

    • @MakeLure
      @MakeLure  Před 8 lety

      Limitations may exist if there are vertical features of the bait. For the most part, the bait has to lay flat.

      The softer your soft plastic the more buoyant it will be. You may not get it to completely float, but will stay on the top of the water with some movement. • @MakeLure

      This issue we run into is claying up soft lures. It's tough to achieve a nice tight parting line against the soft lure. Plus the lure may not stand like we would like them to. If the lure was rigid, it wouldn't be an issue to clay up and make a 2 piece mold of.

      MakeLure if I sculpted a model lure out of wood can I make the mold of it our of vac 50? would the vac50 stick to it? how would that work?

    • @MakeLure
      @MakeLure  Před 7 lety +1

      Yes, it can work. You would need to apply mold release onto the lure to prevent sticking. You would also have to be careful with undercuts to ensure you don't ruin the mold trying to remove your original, although it is common for originals to be ruined when removing them from the mold. Here's a video where we show using rigid resin originals: czcams.com/video/LsAVWw0eKqc/video.html

    So....... the MOLD is actualy resin ? ....looks like plastic .... Can I make with that a mold for concrete ? ...How durable is it ? (Can I create like 500 pieces from 1 mold ? ) Thanks cool video !

    • @donfowler6197
      @donfowler6197 Před 7 lety

      The mold is resin with aluminum powder filler. This product is not a good choice when casting concrete parts if that is what you are asking. You would want to use a Flexible urethane like Alumilite's Flex 60, 70, or 80.
