Ah… How do I begin to describe how I feel about this song.
It quickly wormed its way into becoming one of my favorite Vocaloid songs of all time. And considering how many Vocaloid songs I know and love, that is no shallow honor. Everything about it just feels very personally catered to my aesthetic likings… Especially as a Madoka fan. I NEED to see a MadoHomu version of this song, please. It fits them in Rebellion so well.
If you’re confused as to what the PV depicts, it’s based upon Dazai Osamu’s “A Urgent Appeal” (dealing with the relationship between Jesus and Judas from the Bible) but with a magical witch and her maid followers instead.
I also wanted to try my hand at making lyrics for this song, since I disagreed with some translations of the grammar I’d seen floating around in the most well known subtitles. Namely, that その度に何回も繋がれるように (you ni) in the chorus is not meant as “in order to”, but the second meaning: signifying a prayer, a plea, a wish on a star. Thus, it isn’t “in order to make sure we’re reconnected, no matter how many times” but “I pray we may be able to be reconnected each and every time we’re split apart”, which I sung as “I’ll pray to every God I know to keep you here to hold me”.
Additionally, まだ誰も知らない感覚で救われていく: most of the translations I’ve seen interpret this line as the singer talking about somebody else being saved, but I don’t agree. 救う is in the passive form here, I think if the singer was wanting to talk about saving someone else they would have said it more directly/not implied no part in it. To me, this reads as the singer saying “*I* can still be saved. YOU can keep on saving me.” It’s not a one time scenario of helping someone out of a rut, it has that holy feeling: you save me each and every day with your presence, you bless me, I want to ensure things remain that way, that I can keep being saved/blessed by you.
まだ誰も知らない also implies a certain level of possessiveness in my opinion: dare mo shiranai literally means “nobody knows”, but I often see it in lyrical contexts with the meaning of “nobody knows except ME, it’s as good as a secret”. In my interpretation, the singer wants this feeling to stay that way; they don’t want to share how wonderful it is with anybody else- it’s that sort of jealousy.
Yeah so ANYWAY I’m a couple months late but this was my birthday gift to myself. I love this song and I needed to sing something I loved on my 24th birthday since I don’t feel too happy about getting older anymore.

The interpretation of “I can be saved. You can still save me” in the description is perfect when you consider the character and event that the song was commissioned for (Mizuki Akiyama from Project Sekai).
FINALLY let my thoughts marinate in my head long enough to crystallize into something tangible enough to comment
it's obvious when reading the video description, but even just listening to the lyrics it's clear how much care you put into incorporating the MV/an urgent appeal(/even The biblical judas towards the end!) into your lyrics and i think it REALLY paid off. like specifically an urgent appeal, it seriously felt like i was re-reading it while watching the premiere.
an urgent appeal felt like the coalescing of judas' adoration, desperation, obssession, and possessiveness, all born from worshipping someone extolled for their selflessness... and then falling in love with that someone for that same selflessness, despite (or rather, because of) her own selfishness. it wasn't until reading your rationale behind why you worded 1:17 the way you did that it really clicked for me what made this version feel so satisfying: you REALLY hit that persistent feeling of inferiority that underscored dazai's judas, that FUELED her splitting between adoration and resentment. it feels only fitting that the cowardly judas is only able to pray that they stay together vs actively working to tie jesus down. even outside that specific line though, your judas instinctively prostrates herself in relation to jesus thanks to that insecurity throughout the entire song despite WANTING their relationship to be one of mutual reliance (2:19 - 2:27, the JESUS PLEASE NEED ME THE WAY I NEED YOU BABYGIRL plea):
- [ 0:30 - 0:43 ; 0:58 - 1:05 ] she forces herself to swallow those ugly, unacceptable feelings judas has for her comparatively infinitely virtuous jesus
- [ 1:05 - 1:10 vs 2:04 - 2:11 ] what was once wanting to know what jesus thought of running away together in a moment of intimacy (in an urgent appeal, it's the one time judas believes she got to truly speak to jesus before jesus would close herself off from judas) becomes resentment and a realization that clinging to jesus has shackled her to the same exact position she was in before: insignificant, insecure, and clinging to someone who can't reciprocate
- [ 2:42 - 2:54 ] flipping back to adoration after experiencing the MV's allegory for jesus washing her disciples' feet before the last supper. in contrast to alternate translyrics, are explicit pleas to jesus, BEGGING that she please come back to judas

- [ 3:22 - 3:31 ] bringing the adoration/resentment cycle to a close a la biblical judas who's recognized her betrayal for the grave mistake it was, cementing jesus as her god who she is wholly beneath and left wanting for her approval in her final moments before repenting by dying.
your judas plays jumprope with the line between faithfulness (selflessness) and monopolization (selfishness) much like dazai's judas, illustrating a kind self-serving devotion judas had towards jesus. the desire for a lover, a PERSONAL god, through which all her insecurities and sins would be forgiven while simultaneously being elevated to, in her mind, a true equal worthy of standing by jesus' side.
in the way an urgent appeal is an intimate look into judas' thoughts, this cover feels almost...intrusive? as a listener we hear all of your judas' inner thoughts laid bare: the ugly feelings, the wistful thinking, the memories, the apologies. but the sole person judas prays to and wants to convey it all to... never does in the end. and that guilty feeling of reading a letter unsent is a testament to the success of your cover and lyrics, at least in my personal listening experience.
tldr: delicious addition to the will/trickle lower cover blunt rotation, 2023 oktavia SWEEP

Honestly this is a super detailed and beautiful analysis?? I've never read the Bible and have no familiarity with the story of Jesus and Judas but you described it so vividly that I feel like I have. Would genuinely pay to see quality analysis like this on more Vocaloid songs.

I LOVE that you took the time to analyze my translyrics, it really made my day. I spend hours thinking about every little detail and how I’m gonna work it in to make it fit juuust right, and your analysis really made it feel worth it. I’m glad you caught on to the duality I was trying to express from the singer/Judas’ perspective- in my opinion it’s a very human feeling I’ve struggled with too sometimes. Somebody who you’re so jealous of, you want to be them in some ways- but in other ways you can’t deny how beautiful they are, and how your jealousy also manifests in wishing they won’t be taken away from you. I’ve always loved those sorts of characters in fiction, they’re very interesting to look at.

I don't think Judas (in the short story) killed himself because he regretted killing Jesus, instead I think he planned to commit necc cracc from the very beginning.

Wanting to be equal to Jesus is like the most important part of Judas's character arc for him to accept that he'll always be below him is to go against it.
The MV also referenced it by having ikusu wear a hat so it looks like she taller than suou then have her stop wearing it towards the end symbolize how they are now "equal".
Also I think the last line of the song (in Japanese) is something along the line of "my feelings and everything I live for is correct" is supposed to represent how Judas justified his actions ?
(Though if you were talking about the biblical Judas or this translated version of the song pls ignore my comment 😅)

this song takes inspiration from the Osamu Dazai novel called "Heed My Plea" which is about Judas and his betrayal of Jesus, but from Judas' perspective.
The maid represents Judas
The witch represents Jesus
The other maids represent the rest of the disciples
Based off the novel and the way the maid stares with dissatisfaction when the man in green kneels in front of the witch, the man could represent Mary Magdalene
The witch can be seen healing someone, likewise Jesus doing miracles for the ill
The scene at the seashore coukd be referencing a scene in the novel where Jesus and Judas has a one-on-one conversation at the beach
A scene in the novel has Jesus feed Judas some bread (in front of all the disciples) after saying that the person that He (Jesus) is going to feed is the one going to betray Him. I think this may reference where the witch burns the book that the maid is holding in front of the other maids. The fire that the maid got caught in could be a reference that Judas said that he felt like he was humiliated
The scene where the maid gets the coins referencing the fact that Judas sold out Jesus for 30 pieces of silver
During the "lalularuda" part where the maid seems like she's telling something and then a woman and elderly man in the next frame could be referencing Judas telling the story of Jesus to the priests and selling Him out
Throughout the novel Judas' feelings progressively gets more and more inclined towards Jesus, the point where he declares that he wants Jesus to live with him and that he loves Him (could be represented by the dances that the maid and witch share during the choruses) but at the end he denies all of these as lies
And finally when Judas kissed Jesus in order to identify him, could be represented with the last dance they (maid and witch) share (both a kiss and a dance, specifically the dance shown in the MV could be read as romantic gestures, not always though)

The lyrics are great, you really understood the feelings behind the song's story.The voice is really static-y for some reason, but I really like how you sang the verses. Your belt is also impressive as always, though I find belting this high in pitch doesn't really match this particular song. This song is a fresh new experience from the regular overly cute songs and I'm loving it.
If you've listened to Oktavia's songs, I don't think a lot of them are "overly cute", especially with 2022's uploads: Aishite Aishite Aishite, Self-Inflicted Achromatic, Jailbreak, Shoujo Rei, and Monuke no Karada. I think Shoujo Rei is the closest to an "overly cute" song, and even then, it's a melody littered with melancholy.
