Favourite Dahl recipe - first Indian dish I ever made and I have come back 10+ times. Such a forgiving dish if you're not an expert, and it's completely customizable. My family likes it spicier and with more ginger so we double the chilli and GG paste. Love it
Made it today, very well received by the family. First time doing a complete dal recipe in the "Instant pot" that included the tempering, usually I use the stove and add tempering at the end, it was easy to do and the result was excellent. Next time (I will make this again ), I'll use the low setting for sauté as it did get a bit fierce and burned the GG paste to the bottom of the pot, as with all new things there is a learning curve. Good video, good recipe, thank you for making and posting. 👍👍👍👍👍
couldn't hear several substitute comments you made that were not on the recipe ... if you like it smoother do you cook it longer or do you puree in blender ... I cook in Instapot with glass lid for a while, then add pressure. I have been working on this recipe for years because I always either brown or burn the bottom of the pot. I also soak for a lot longer depending on the lentil or bean. The last 3 I did were fabulous. Love to add cardamom seeds and black cumin seeds in the tempering. Such comfort food, thanx.
I’ve been cooking all kinds of lentils and beans in a stovetop pressure cooker for 20 years. For me, 15 minutes is way too long. Five or six minutes at high pressure and then remove from the heat and allow natural release. It has never failed me. I do appreciate that without the natural release you might need to cook it slightly longer. But there’s no point in wasting electricity, and you’re going to overcook the lentils if you cook them for 15 minutes.Just my opinion!👍🍷
Love the straightforward fluff-free video! The color is off though, too dark. Im guessing too much turmeric and tomato. She was smart to not to brown the onions.
Good recipe and very easy! However your voice is very soft and at times the music was drowning out what you were sayi ng. Please speak a little louder or turn down the music. I want to subscribe to your channel!
Good question! I actually have done the same recipe in my stove top pressure cooker with the whistle. Just do about 3 to 5 whistles and if the dal is too thick when you open up the pressure cooker, add a little more water and simmer for a few minutes.

Thank you for a detailed recipe . Helped me
Made this for lunch today. Absolutely wonderful.
This came out great! I added a little kashmiri red chilli for a gentler heat to the aftertaste, combined with half the red chilli powder recommended.
Looks good
Thanks !! I enjoyed your recipe made it tonight !

Hi ! I’m goikg to make this this week. According to the measurements you gave, how many servings does this make ?
I’ve been cooking all kinds of lentils and beans in a stovetop pressure cooker for 20 years.

We miss your videos please come back with more yummy video❤
Your recipe is the first in my Christmas Ninja Foodi.
Hope you like it!
This made me wish I had an instant pot
Yes, they're pretty amazing!!
Doesn’t take long to cook, so just make it in a pot on the stove or in a multi cooker
What should be the size of instant pot for 2-3 people ?
Love the straightforward fluff-free video! The color is off though, too dark.
Im guessing too much turmeric and tomato. She was smart to not to brown the onions.
Could I add potatoes to this dal? Or is it not recommended?
Why doesnt anyone use the lentil option on the cooker...im yet to use mine i cant find any recipe which uses that option
Please make more videos!
Thank you for the encouragement. I've started posting more videos. Hope you enjoy them!

Can I make this recipe just using the red lentils only?
Definitely.
Great recipe..but the music is distracting.
Tadka at end always.
Oh no I think I messed up my soup. Not knowing that things had to be sautéed. I just put it in pot all together. I hope it turns out.
I don't have an Instant Pot but I do have a stove top whistling pressure cooker...how does one adapt this recipe to my pressure cooker?🤔
Good question! I actually have done the same recipe in my stove top pressure cooker with the whistle. Just do about 3 to 5 whistles and if the dal is too thick when you open up the pressure cooker, add a little more water and simmer for a few minutes.
The yellow dal is the same as mung bean?
The yellow daal is usually a combination of mung daal and masoor daals.
Nice video but the background music is too loud
Where do you find the containers for your spices
It was a gift from India. But I believe they area also available on Amazon. Just search for Masala Dabba or Indian Spice Box!
@@CookinIndian thank you.
Hi VinDeep: How would you make Dal a bit thicker?
Add less water. Instead of 3 cups add 2 1/4 cups.
Music too loud😮
Can't hear a damn thing above that annoying "background" music.
So helpful bought my 1st instant pot and your video really helped me to yummy 😋 dal....my family loved it f4om @momwithdreams & @dkirasoi
