@Mwaniki Mwaniki That's actually the same thing italians can do with spanish... We basically already understand it, save for some idiomatic expressions. The effort to learn it correctly with pronounciation, grammar, and lexicon is less than with other saxon languages or asian ones.

This is insane, I was “learning” Italian for like 5 years and seriously could barely understand your conversation lol. You’ve inspired me to try again!
You can do it!
You can learn so quickly, if you know what to do. It is not right that you need to spend years upon years to learn a skill well. just do the right things, and have specific goals. take a look at 20 hours learning method, josh kaufman. It can change your perception of learning.🙂

Knowing Spanish beforehand is like 80% or the work already done. I am Spanish.
I love how his argentina accent comes out while speaking italian.

Why is that even worth noting , his family is Argentinian and he speaks Spanish fluently.
What's funny is a lot of Italians moved to Argentina and changed the way Spanish sounds there. They also use a lot of Italians words too with the same stress. On a side note if you know Spanish you can understand Italian about 60% of what being said and vice versa.
THEY LITERALLY HAD A LONG ASS CONVERSATION AND HE STUDIED FOR A WEEK I CANNOT HANDLE THIS
I’m about to use his methods to learn more Spanish. I’ve always just used Duolingo and tried to grasp as much information as possible from my Spanish classes but none of it would click for me. I want to learn because everyone in my family speaks Spanish except for me (I can understand it to an extent, but I can’t speak it) and I want to be able to talk to my grandma more without having to have someone translate for me.
When you already know one romance language it's easy to learn another- and Spanish (he already knows) is a perfect base language..especially with Italian & Portuguese, as they are very similar.

A modest or low view of one's own importance; humbleness.
why would you love that
Michael M Opposites of humility: pride, conceit, pridefulness, vanity, conceitedness. I’ll take humility over that every day.
But your definition of humility is different from mine.
Are you a native English speaker? There’s a different connotation in English than the strict dictionary definition.

As someone from an Italian background who really never learned as a kid(really regretting it now as im 20 years old) this video was extremely inspiring. Im really at a point where I can make time to learn. And im extremely excited to get better and surprise my nonna in the coming months!
omg same!! im 15 and i want to learn now, i really regret not asking my mom/grandparents to teach me as a kid 😭
@adriianaaxx
I remember when this video first came out and I was trying to learn another language. Seeing all these youtubers make videos like "POLYGLOT LEARNS SPANISH IN THREE MONTHS!!!!!" and obviously this video above us gave me pretty unrealistic expectations of learning a language.
Now coming back to it I have since gotten pretty good at italian and can understand the whole conversation they had. Make sure to give it time and use resources that are good for you personally (please just do yourself a favor and avoid Duolingo). Italian is a easy enough language. The grammar is tricky but that's literally the hardest part, get comfortable with it and the language is yours. Buona fortuna, spero che ti divertiate negli studi!
Magnificent, Nathaniel! We humans have amazing capabilities, but most of us will never put in enough effort to succeed at something significant. You've demonstrated that in only a week, a person actually can achieve a lot in a foreign language which is something quite significant. Thank you for the inspiration.
Dude being able to form your own sentences spontaneously is a major step in language acquisition. The amount of progress you made in a week is very impressive
it's funny, as italian I think that your accent is very spanish
It's because he talks spanish, his father lived in Argentina. ^^
I'm a French Spanish and Italian student and I've been told my Spanish is very Italian (accent, word choice and just stealing Italian words and hoping for the best)

I just realized how similar Spanish and Italian are. I speak Spanish and so many of the words are nearly the same.
Many of them are pretty similar to english as well!!

Portuguese is very similar too!

To answer your questions about how I found the top 1,000 words, it was basically just a Google search. It appears as though these lists are flawed, so you may need to do some manual translating for yourself - if you notice you use a word a lot in your native language, but don't know the translation, that's probably a good sign that you should look it up.
That being said, I think we should make a more reputable source online with a proper list of the top 1,000 words in all languages. And I might your help to make that happen.

1. Learn the top 1000 words for the language (use different methods: writing them all down and rereading again and again, record and listen to it again and again whilst doing another activity, associating the word with an action)
2. Learn most common verbs, tenses, their conjugation and connective words such as ‘on’ ‘and’ (try and understand the rules, and irregulars)
3. Use technology to help you with your language learning (translate music, watch Netflix shows with subtitles, listen to radio stations and podcasts)
4. Practice speaking (e.g. get a pen pal to skype or message, or just speak out loud) it’s okay to make mistakes
5. Consistency is key (keep it up everyday)

@IcedTails Chinese is very different than most languages
@IcedTails He might be a fast learner.. but that doesnt mean you're bad or you cant do it. If you're really passionate about learning the languages you are currently then it doesnt matter if you learned a language before or after you're 30.
Also, If chinese was the first language you ever learned (besides your native lang or English) then know that its always difficult to learn a new language for the first time. However, once you've learned it, the next time you learn a new language itll be easier for you. Its just your brain becoming accustomed to language-learning.
Also as another person said Chinese is very different from say Italian/Spanish/French. You probably had to learn chinese alphabets/characters from scratch, whereas for Italian most letters are similar if not same and many words from French/Spanish/English (the 3 languages he already knows and speaks) resemble Italian words too.

If I'm not wrong, Chinese is the hardest language to learn for an English native speaker. So don't be so harsh on yourself.

Cristian Brasca yeah but we were very impressed because some italian guys dont know how to use Congiuntivo in a correct way in a phrase. So it is even more amazing that he did it in a week when people in italy studied it for years :))
@@coffeeandmilk3657 He actually didn't, he gets it wrong almost every time :) I'm not saying he isn't great, for a week of study, but don't get mistaken, he's got a lot of room for improvement, even in the basics
I thought the exact same thing, not to mention I doubt that anyone can learn a language in a day or a week unless they're Sheldon Cooper!!!
I like this guy's work... I've binged watched all his videos.
Abbas Mogul guilty pearsures
I binge watched his videos too :))))
What I'm amazed about is how well you string words together (ie speed of your chat) already! To me that is one of the hardest things about speaking the language. I'm not 'singy' enough. Well done
I adore how I can actually understand almost everything since I speak Spanish, but it helped loads the speed at which you guys were speaking. Thank you for all your advice. I’m constantly looking for inspiration to teach English ❤
5:08 this is so true. I wrote an essay about this when I was 18 and studying English, German and French. You may probably know 1984 and the importance of language as one of the main themes in this novel: in this dystopian world, the language has been extremely simplified to the point where concepts can't even be imagined due to the limited amount of vocabulary.
3:01 "Allora..." hai imparato molto bene lo diciamo sempre xD
ma come cazzo ha fatto questo ad imparare l'italiano in 7 giorni
Secondo me chitta

@its_diste32 dobbiamo far sentire la nostra italianita
One of the coolest videos I've seen on language learning.
Awesome - very inspirational! Great job Nathaniel. I am sitting here in Sydney in self-isolation after having got COVID (day 3 of 7) and what a productive way to use the time by watching your clips and revisiting a long term goal of mine that is to learn Italia. Molte Grazie!
I’m not only impressed by how, as being a native Portuguese speaker, I could understand your entire conversation, but also as how valuable your method to learning a foreign language seems.
I often try learning languages by myself but the traditional way seems pointless and I struggle exactly with the gaps I feel the vocabulary I’ve learned leaves.
I’ll definitely change my approach to languages by using your tips and maybe even starting with a sister language to mine.
Eu pensei a mesma coisa! Impressionante como italiano parece muito espanhol e português... me dá mais ânimo pra aprender sabendo que já é um pouco familiar sabe... e o método dele com certeza parece ser muito bom e bem mais eficaz
Really impressive job my man! If you ever need listening practice my whole channel is in Italian even though I'm American (which I believe you are too...) Nice job dude!
I'll check it out! Thanks dude
@@nathanieldrew I don't get it. Why did you have to wait for one week before you uploaded this video since you had a preview of this video in part 1?
How can you get a video from the future unless you had this video recorded down and then you just waited for a week to pass before you uploaded it?
@@TedEhioghae because he did have this video recorded already and then waited a week to post it 🤷
I love you Learn Italiano in a week. I have watched part 1 and 2. So impressed with what you learned in that short amount of time. You have inspired to try “again” to learn Italiano!! Grazie Mille
I acc stood up and applauded for a long ass minute to a screen... chapeau!! BRAVISSIMO
Italian is like French, but with a lot of olive oil, because it follows beautifully. x
Edit: I said it out of love and amazement as I heard italian for the first time, I hope it doesn't come off as offensive or racist
What- AHAHAHAHA
that's why😂😂😂😂
Da fac?? 😂😂
I love this😂
Except italian doesnt suck.
You kinda sound like the pope
hahahaha
@@julianopfroner9164 yeah but being in Rome he mostly speaks italian
🤣
@@nathanieldrew Hello, please reply... How do you know what 1000 words are the most useful if you do not know the language (for you: Italian)
@@nathanieldrew Please, share the 1000 words.
That was inspirational... Thanks! Learning how to make mistakes with more confidence is my key takeaway. You guys seemed to be having fun!
Dude, you should be very proud of yourself. Very happy I watched this. Time for Part III.
I suddenly feel inspired... maybe I'll try learning my home country's language, Japanese :) There's a Japanese girl I like and she seems to like me back, maybe this could be the finishing stone!!
BelowAverageAsian go do it man! We want to hear how it goes
ganbatte! i'm also currently studying japanese - it's a challenge, but also so much fun!
BelowAverageAsian Godspeed
Me too!! I'm half jp half italian and I can't speak Japanese... Ganbare!!!
I'm learning Japanese but sadly I'm that person that lives in a small town with no foreigners, good luck 😊
This actually inspired me to learn a new language.
thanks! It is incredible how motivated you are.
Thanks so much for this, thoroughly enjoyable and refreshingly honest.
I am inspired. Thank you Nathaniel, truly.
For someone that learned Italian in a week his accent and most of his pronunciation is very, very good. Good job learning those verbs!!!
"subscribe" is ISCRIVITI.
I'm learning Italian and this was very motivating and informative for me to watch. Thank you!
Very inspirational. Yes, very much motivated by this video. Thanks.
