    We've had one since around the time this film was made. Ours cost 13K euro and is fully loaded with Blue & Me, etc. I also stuck a tow hook on it. We live in the country in Sweden and it's been an amazing car. Sticks to snow and ice like glue with the standard tyres - which also last forever as it's so light (same with the brake pads - just changed the rears and the fronts are maybe halfway worn at just over 80K km). Servicing is cheap and easy. Oil, filters and plugs (which cost about 40 euro) once a year. Road tax on the Panda here is bugger all at around 30 euro a year (compared to 900 euro for the Defender). The Twin Air is actually pretty economical if you have a light foot, but the engine is so zippy that you can't help blasting around and end up with around 6.5 litres to 100km. It's excellent offroad, better than my old Defenders in most situations. Great tow car. I have a trailer for when I want to transport big loads and I've moved house twice with the Panda. Tow and launch my boat, and take my motorbikes to the track. Even transporting a dog and kids around the wilderness, the interior almost looks new with no major cleaning as it's rugged and wipe-clean. Easy to fit a roof rack and throw skis up there. Being Italian, the ECU has had a couple of hick-ups putting the car in ECO mode for no reason, but easy to reset. No rattles and nothing has fallen off or come loose. Whenever it does finally wear out, I hope they're still making them because I'll have another.

I Just bought the fiat 500x and after trying almost anything in the under 25k category those new fiats are one of the few cars that make you smile when you drive them without being exceptional in any particular category . If you like this car you will love the 500x hope to see your review soon ! Greetings from Greece keep up !

    I have the Panda 4x4 0.9 Twinair Antarctica. I'm thoroughly impressed with it, the build quality is very good, the interior looks and feels fine to me, I like the dash layout and the mix of finishes and textures. The front seats don't feel cramped and the centre console does not intrude into my leg space at all. The handling is perfect for a city car, it can feel a bit 'bouncy' on uneven roads. On longer runs it coped well, the 6 speed gearbox certainly helps to keep the engine revving at the right speed for the road conditions. The 0.9 Twinair turbo engine feels very lively and you soon forget it only has 2 cylinders, it feels like a 1.2 with 4 cylinders in terms of power. MPG I get around 50+ on average but it all depends on how you drive it and when you change gear etc
    If you want a cheap to run, rugged city car with lots of character, capable of tackling some rough terrain, then you won't go far wrong with the Panda 4x4
    It really is a fun car to drive as well.

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524 Před 4 lety

      @@leymanleyman7426 I can get easily 50+mpg on a long run with plenty of 6th gear use, if I drive appropriately.
      But if you drive with a heavy right foot and keep that engine revving, around town in 3rd and 4 th gears then fuel economy can easily go down to mid 30's mpg!
      I think it is very good on fuel overall, if you get an average of 45mpg all round style motoring.
      Mine has all season snow and mud tyres so with some better fuel economy summer tyres I could probably improve those figures a lot.
      The road tax per year is only £30 here in the UK
      Hope that helps?

  • @MarekDrives
    @MarekDrives Před 9 lety +5

    +creosl It's the same engine, but probably changed gearing for better offroad capabilities. Hence the constant downshifting on tarmac, where I engaged higher gears too early. You probably mean the Qubo. It's made in a different assembly plant. Perhaps this is the reason. If you are referring to Suzuki SX-4/Fiat Sedici, they had a different AWD system. It was electromagnetic, and could be locked in permanent AWD or permanent 2WD. This one always sends at least 10 percent of torque to the rear wheels, and up to 50 percent, when needed. But it can never be locked permanently. If I drive it in deep sand for 15-20 minutes, the viscous coupling would overheat and stop working. I would have to stop, cool it, and then get the hell out.

    Hi Marek....thank you for an excellent review of the fiat Panda 4x4 and for posting this video....i have owned 2 fiat pandas 4x4 from new and both were very reliable, i had the twin air turbo engines in both cars and with those engines you must regulary check the engine oil 2/3 times per week and also on long journeys as the engine burns the oil....the fiat oil is also expensive......i currently own the fiat panda cross 4x4 with the 1.3 multijet turbo diesel engine......about 55 MPG in town driving and about 65MPG on the motorway....the engine does not burn ANY oil unlike the twin air.....however the diesel only has a 5 speed gearbox it really needs the extra 6th gear for motorway driving.....the cross also has more ground clerence than the 4x4 due to larger wheels, the front fog lights are also better positioned, and the LED running lights are very good, also the suspension is an uprated version of the 4x4....there are a few extras compared to the 4x4 which are also very useful like hill descent control and 2 tow hooks fitted on the front.....im very happy with the cross its been very reliable and cheap to run.....im definately keeping the car for as long as possible.....thank you, best regards, Stefano.

    Nice review allthough I disagree with some points. I have seen this car several times outperform much bigger and well renouned offroad cars due to it's 4x4 and being light. I also like the Twin Air Engine better. Not because it's cheap to run but because it's fun and unique. The sound it makes is intoxicating.

    Fiat doesn't even try to sell this car here in North America.... it couldn't possibly compete with the way more reliable and far superior Crosstrek, in particular Fiat's "grip and slip" 4x4 vs Subaru's full time AWD with twice the horse power... for about the same price

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives Před 3 lety

      It's not a car for the US. It's smaller, than the Micra. It's about the size of smart forfour. Interestingly in Europe Subaru sells less in a year, than they do in the US during a slow month. They basically don't exist here, as there is not that much need for AWD, and there are plenty other cars for similar price that offer more practicality, than Subaru. For the US they've done wonders with their marketing, convincing people they are going to die in a terrible crash, if they don't buy an AWD car. In Europe Subaru is associated with rallies, but people need Outbacks, rather than Impreza STis, and that just doesn't look as cool :)
