This is the most affordable supercar and family car.
It's a revolutionary piece of electronics that has never been done before.
I test drove it. It is not Ioniq 5 or 6..etc. i think it will be good for dads who need to go to work, take care of their families, but on weekends they want to become superaction heroes at a circuit.
Hyundai and KIA are lightyears ahead in automotive innovation 👑
A45 is too small to compete against 5N. 5N has the largest interior space in 5 seater cars in the market. Go find any sports car that is bigger, faster "AND" cheaper than this. Absolutely NONE
100%.
It’s a 💩box on wheels is the Hyundai.
It's a different class of car though.
@@Bobisuruncle54 exactly, it dwarfs any real hot hatch (which an A45 would be classed as).
It's a crossover / SUV, all 2.2 tonnes of it, and definitely not a "track weapon" at that weight, regardless of its ballistic acceleration.
@@Mizzkanyou need a hug?😂
Hyundai is actually making EVs fun 😮
When i was younger......this would have been a must buy imo.
Still a LithiumDeathTrap!!!!
Except you woudln't have been able to afford it....
Love it, well done Hyundai.
Hyundai changed the game. WOW. Brilliant!!!
Not really. It’s a marketing job on the stupid.
Ummm, not really. The general consensus among reviewers early in the game is that this car special, especially on track.
@@boogiedownkid5465 It ain’t special at all. You do realise how car reviews work don’t you……
@@Mizzkan When innovation happens in the world, there are real idiots who treat it like it's stupid, just like you. Haha.
@@GOLD-jb5pw When people who do not know what innovation really means like you clearly don’t true stupidity of the true dictionary term is shown. Congratulations 🥂
It has literally entry supercar level of agility with its one fourth price. It just not agile on the straight road for drag race but also on the track. It's legit track car.
Oh please. Destroyed on a track vs a supercar.
@@mattyoz0 where can i see this video u are talking about?
@DriverJ-N where did I mention a video? Are you drinking again?
@@mattyoz0 oh u are talking as if it’s something u saw but let me guess u are just spewing what ever comes to mind as a fact as if u are an automotive savant… get over yourself 🙄
@@DriverJ-N When we see it's nurburgring time we'll meet here again. My guess you'll delete your comment quick smart. Unless you really think a 2200+kg car will trouble a gt3rs.
Very interesting review. The Hyundai group must be making other manufacturers nervous.
This was a nice overall review especially of going over all those settings without getting lost in the detail. I was hoping that the simulated shifting and sound would have an option as an automatic as I am not a fan of paddle shifters. Noone has mentioned that so I assume that is not available. I am sure the shifting is not for everyone but as smooth and quiet as EV's are they are a bit boring to drive so its great Hyundai and that German designer are looking at ways to make them more fun. Now to get new more powerful batteries so the packs can be smaller for reduced weight and we will really have something fun.
I've always liked the boxy, understated looks of the Ioniq 5. And now they've added a small nuclear furnace to it's motors. *_Awesome!_* 8-))...
As for all the _"gimmicks"_ that this beastie has. They're on the car so you don't have to use them... _Unless you really, really want to..._ }:-))
But the fact you can pull up next to Barry and Kevin, grinning away, as they're sat in their Golf GTi at the lights, revving the nuts off it. and then leave them for dead when those light turns green, would be most rewarding ;-))...
This is going to cost 2x what a GTI does so not sure the satisfaction in dusting one from a dig is justified...
@@WindyCityR If you can afford it, who cares.
Love it. We should applaud Hyundai for giving us the option at least, even if it's not to everyones taste. I will personally stick with my M3P due to the supercharging network and the fact its just as quick, if not quicker, owing to less weight.
I bet you cant drift on that poor thing
Faster in what sense? Around a track 5N will be faster than any BEV unless you want to spend at least twice the money. 0-100 can be done in 3 sec according to Korean reviews. Hyundai often underrates performance, just the opposite of Tesla.
@@JohnLee-db9zt in the sense that I live in the real world with speed limits and changing weather conditions and every single publication I’ve read has M3P quicker from a launch and up to three figures, which you aren’t allowed to do on public roads…. Now go away, troll.
@@kevinpark86 I have no idea what this means

Other people have said it will beat you up when the suspension is on firm.
I loved this review. Such an exciting car.
What Car ? : the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is THE BEST EV in the world !!!! It's the only EV that doesn't look like an EV....in fact it looks like a DeLorean made love to the i30 N :-)
Mine arrives in April 24😮
How is it?
So 4-wheel drive, upgraded brakes and suspension, upgraded tyres, alcantara seats and door cards all mean no modifications at all for the MG4 X-Power over lesser models?
Hmm, would be interesting if Best Motoring could get their hands on this for a run at Gunsai
Real world driving segment wasn’t long or detailed enough, how is it around corners? What other cars does it feel like? What about compared to an A45?
That mock gearbox is such a silly gimmick. Reminds me of being a child and attaching card with a clothes peg to my bicycle wheel to try to make it sound like it had a motor. I guess any 12 year olds out there will love it.
Yet the main argument that so-called 'petrol-heads' spout when asked whether or not they'd swap to an EV is "the lack of driver involvement"...
Well, now they've got that...
Tell me you're not an enthusiast without saying you're not an enthusiast.
First EV I've been interested in 👀
At the size and weight of a loaded Transit, I wouldn't want to get in the way of one of these going flat out on a narrow B road.
How much does it weigh? Is it over 5,000 lbs?
Can’t wait for the ioniq 6 to have a N edition 😌
They already do just haven't released it yet just type in rn22e it will come up
soon
You really gonna pay $60-70,000 for one??
@RW-zh7kl yeah the quality is impressive hyundai has come a long way and really put themselves on the map as a premium car brand now plus its the fastest everyday electric car on the market right now £70k in this day and age is reasonable for a car like this
Excellent review. Exciting car. Good to have EV choice
Now comes with a rear wiper that they missed off on the original non hot hatch, that's the most interesting thing from the video.
Looks a whole lot btr than not so great looking standard version
That thing would look sweet with a martini livery like the 90's Lancia Delta Integrale Evos had.
Yes, just what need here in Wales. I bet people can’t wait to drive one on our pot holed, speed bumped roads at the maximum allowed 20mph.
A step in the right direction, at long last. However, I'm still massively in favour of synthetic fuels and the continuance of the ICE.
The ability to change gear makes this possibly a game changer, time will tell!
Sounds like 100 years ago you'd have been happy with a car that poops and wobbles you around for a genuine horse riding experience :)))
It only sounds like a gear change - the acceleration is actually slower than without the sound effect, as it blips down the acceleration during a "change".
@@wtfgogu lol if i had no other choice 🤷🏾♂️
He speaks perfectly posh English. Impressive.
Definitely considering the 5N in the future! Hope more universal chargers pop up soon.
Amazing!
Insurance will be crazy for these probably. And not so sure about how well the car will hold up over time with all that tech saturation. Brave and bold though from hyundai and im sure future iterations will be even better.
If you can afford one, you won't be concerned about that. you'll just trade it in and get the next best shiny.
Can you turn it off? Or, can you make sound like a Tie Fighter?
It does have multiple different sounds, and yes, you have to turn it on. If you want max performance then the gear simulation should be off since it works by limiting power to make a fake torque curve and cuts power momentarily to simulate gear shifts.
Evening mate
Love it. Want it. Haven't got the money. Grrrrrr!
Stretch calling it a hot hatch when it weighs a ton more than mine
For an EV its a nice car. But for a hot hatch? No way. Hyundai make 2... I20N and I30N (with variants).
family + track
Somehow the engine and transmission that the car doesn’t have, will go out.
Nice 👌🏽
Still a LithiumDeathTrap!!!!
I'm back lol Morning lol
It's all good if you like to play like a fool 😆
Way to complaited , avarage person not got the time or will ,to learn it's operating system.
It's suitable if you a internet programmer.
Awesome
People keep talking about the “fake” sound. Unless we are talking about exotic cars costing 3 times as much, most sports cars today (also costing more) pipe fake sounds into the cabin to create an ambiance. Anyway the point of the sound is not so much theatrics as it is to engage the driver along with the “fake” gear changes in the same manner as a conventional ICE drivetrain. It is a simple solution for EV and genius from the Koreans.
$60,000 to replace a battery.
Raw materials must be completely depleted in Korea 😂😂😂😂
With the extra performance and all that weight this car is going to eat expensive tyres.
Same as my M50, what you save on it being an EV you spend on tires (same tires as the 5N)
Excellent video for a seemingly excellent car. The car itself sounds fascinating, and I'm happy Hyundai is pushing the boundaries a bit on what an EV represents.
🤔 yeah fair play to 'HiOnPie' its probably very good, But I would still take the Mercedes A45 you talked about everytime over that.
Mercedes can liggMuhbowlz. That brand is for guidos and 80 year olds
@Fanta.... Give me an AMG GT Black addition 👌, you can keep the HiOnPie 🥧, it may be fast, but it has the charisma of a plastic spoon 🥄 😉
If i wanted a performance car that gives me the feel of a petrol engine with a gearbox, id buy one of the other petrol powered N models on offer....all that fakery is a waste of money and resources. This is an EV, so keep it as such. 🤷
So its slower than the EV6 but has more power?
Expect to see lots of knackered Ioniq 5 batteries very soon!
Still a LithiumDeathTrap!!!!

I note all the pictures dont give context of how big this car is because it should be the size of an astra and is embarrassingly big

Whats with the damn PZERO tyres. These should come with PS4S or better from factory already.
As always, a great review but a Hyundai dealer quoted $50k for a battery replacement on a 2017 Ioniq. Difficult to listen to whatever else Hyundai offers to customers.
You didn’t follow up on he story. That was a dealer quote. Hyundai corporate heard of the story and offered battery replacement for a small fraction of the price.
@@JohnLee-db9zt battery replacement already. 😂😂😂
This is just all WRONG on so many levels... Please take me back to the 1980`s for my Hot Hatch
Not exactly going to suit crawling around London in rush hour is it?
Who the heck why would anyone pay $70,000 for this?? Seriously? You can get a used Porsche, Corvette, BMW M..

@@paulofranciscopaixaodemelo8347 I agree. I want one.
The fake gearbox and sound is desperate and sad. Tells you all you need to know about modern motoring.

Literally living in a simulation…😂 I’d rather spend a few grand on a sim rig for the spare bedroom than 65 grand on some simulated noises on a milk float 😂😂😂😂 at least you get a rear wiper thrown in😊
Speak for yourself, I'd rather drive a real car whose acceleration, handling, and weight shifting you can actually feel. But since you only seem to care about engine noise I guess you wouldn't get that.

About real experiences now
Looks great, but the cynic in me thinks too much tech, which is just more stuff to go wrong and need fixing as the car gets older.
No thanks, I’ll stick with a petrol….
The reports suggest that the car must be junked due to a scratched battery protection plate. Replacing the battery alone costs $56,000, not including labor and taxes.
Considering this, the car likely has no resale value after 5 to 8 years. By then, the batteries would have worn out or degraded, significantly reducing the range. As of 2024, a new battery for the non-N model costs more than the car's original price.
Why is there a Chinese car at the end, they are two completely different countries, communist and democratic.
A car designed for 10 year old Scalextric fans that have lots of money and not much sense.

@@michaelschuenemann3505 except that's statistically inaccurate - by a factor of about 20x...
The Swedish Civil Enforcement report based on ALL car fires in 2022 shows the chance of a petrol / diesel car bursting in to flames at 0.08%, whereas EVs / PHEVs are at 0.004%
@@michaelschuenemann3505
Do not buy this car. Watch the story on TV. The replacement battery costs MORE than the car. IE: replacement cost $60,000.00. If the battery cover is damaged and the battery is damage there is a chance of explosion and fire. So insurance company will write the car off and insurance goes up. Always ask how much a battery replacement cost before buying. That goes with all electric vehicles. Shame
Great calm review. Almost a mature hot hatch. I still resent the fact that they are so heavy and therefore not a "green" build.
Shame it’s electric, full STOP 🛑
Hyundai, it has to be said wth happened to the brand's affordable, efficient and accessible Ioniq? A racing N version of that would be fun, but it's discontinued...
It's a worrying sign that Hyundai a brand known for its entry level leadership has been over focusing on a premium selection of EVs while leaving a vacuum for Chinese EVs to capitalize.
But they had to delete the highly efficient and practical Ioniq hatch because the KIA Niro, EV9, the less practical Kona and TM3 "killer" Ioniq 5 and 6 are more profitable.
It's an industry trend that will end in disaster
well the KIA ev5 is coming or is it the ev4.. forgot.
Nobody can make cheap ev fun car yet. It is expensive because it's in a development stage.
The greed of the car manufacturers will lead to less cars being sold and more of them being Chinese, the price of batteries are almost at parity now so it's just manufacturers refusing to write off their engine investment cycles so short term profiteering allowing in new competitors.
And what about the best selling car in Europe with the best spec. safety rating and charging infrastructure? Oh they don't advertise so F them.
At least he said it…it’s all a bit of a joke😂😂😂
£65,000 ??? WTF
this car is not a Hatchback its a SUV crossover
I am still waiting for them to make a REAL normal size hatchback EV
룸의 정석 ㅋㅋㅋ
far to expensive but that will become clear in 1 year
60,000 to replace the battery.
£65,000 !!!!!!!!! on your bike
Back in the day, the hot hatch was just a regular car, with a bit more poke. If it had a good chassis, it made a good hot hatch. Life was simpler and a lot less expensive. If I wanted a car with 600bhp, I would buy a car that looked the part, and was originally designed to handle that power. I would also want a car that I could just get into and drive, without navigating my way through hundreds of options. It doesn’t matter how fast the car is, if it takes you 10 minutes to set it up, just to go to the shops. 😂
For a start that blue coat you are wearing wouldn't wear that for a bet and turning on the settings let me do it themselves don't need boring brown shoes wearing presenter telling me what I can do with the car if you lived 8n my county I would move the otherside of the country
Without a handbrake, that stops rear tyres totally on tarmac and differential lock between right and left tyres on both axes, it's just an heavy (2.2 tonns!!!) toy for a big fat boy.
That is bloody awful. Who the hell wants a hot hatch with 5 doors?
I do
Name one on sale today with less than 5?
N for nonsense
“Of course it’s all fake…” Yeah right. What a totally pointless car. Hyundai isn’t Porsche and never will be. It’s a Hyundai with all the interior appeal of a…Hyundai. Enough said. And with a starting price of £65k! Seriously, no.
Stupid price and yet another overpriced Duracell battery bucket. Way too expensive and when you factor in insurance costs (well if you pay where most probably on the roads dont) then its Stupid. To big to overpriced and to much faff pressing this button that button then the over hear button and after you configure the car you probably wont touch it again. Sorry Hyundai but you shook the market with little i30n but this is a big JOKE.
Another ridiculously priced car for crooks who make a lot of money
👎👎👎
absolute nonsense, if you buy a battery car why would you want engine noise? This is complete nonsense. This should tell everyone people aren't buying into the battery nonsense!
Ridiculous, wider than a moon, take that down a b road and you will be miserable
b roads are for losers. A+++ roads are for winners. If you have b roads, your country is poo
So I thought EV's were supposed to be green. This is anything but, at 2.2 tonnes. Soft compound tyres which will wear out quick and need replacing. At £65k this is a pointlesss car full of toys to appeal boy racers with to much money.
My immediate thoughts, too. P Zero’s having to work with 2.2 tonnes 😮 the other factor is so much torque constantly trying to rip them apart. Time will tell I guess.
I think most people are fully aware EV’s are not really green. I mean this should be common knowledge by now.
