- Already one of the best electric vehicles on the market, the mad scientists at Hyundai’s performance division N, has created the absolutely crazy #HyundaiIoniq5N for 2025. This electric #HotHatch takes the already excellent #Ioniq5 and transforms it into one of the best performance bargains of the year. The #Ioniq5N is also the most powerful and quickest production #Hyundai ever created with up to 641 HP and 0-60 MPH in just over 3 secs!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Its a two video day and this is probably the high performance EV that surprised us the most! We got extensive time on the track and on the street and it genuinely feels like an electric hot hatch built by enthusiast, for enthusiasts. Well done to those mad scientist over at the N performance division.
That was fun to watch Sofyan!😀
Stunning
I haven’t seen you giggle like that in quite a long time, I’m sold
Your laughter and excitement is wonderful! What an amazing vehicle!
Hardcore petrol head here and this is the first vehicle to EVER have me consider switching over to EV.
You need to do more research then
@@martinrps13 sure old man
Same lol, If I was forced to get an EV this one would be it lol
It still misses the mark for me.
I don’t want a completely artificial and computerized driving experience. Also, there is no getting around how heavy this vehicle is. Regardless of how fast it accelerates.
@@vr6glsEV cars are heavier. That's just how it's gonna be. For me it's the range. In a few more years I might consider jumping in.
Trying to replicate the feeling of a 2L turbocharged internal combustion engine with a dual clutch 8 speed auto wins my heart it’s amazing in the way it makes us feel like traditional high performance cars and ev with a soul
This is a game changer for performance EV's. That transmission is bonkers.
That's software, not a transmission.
Hyundai and Kia together clinched three of the six World Car of the Year awards. The Kia EV9 won both World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle awards, while the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N was recognized as the World Performance Car.
Also for 2023 and 2022.
@@tooltalk Yes they have been doing it consistently and that shows how they are committed.
Man hyundai has been killing it,what a cool ev
The Koreans are doing better at fun to drive than the Germans. Not surprising since they've "acquired" many of their designers and engineers from that region.
@@krane15 yup, true. the engineering that went into the n e shift thing was probably insane to, to make the car to bounce of the rev limiter and etc, a lot of time and effort was spent on that.Props to them for being able to do this.
@@chrism869 Nobody cares if a ev is fast
Why would they not care, the brutal acceleration is just as fun@@Freddy_Confetti
Don’t judge the book by its cover
I love the look of the ioniq 5 and turning it into a retro hot hatch is insanely cool
The I5 is getting a XRT trim this year for those who are interested in moderate off-roading.
For anyone wondering the Macan EV Turbo has less power, weighs 500lb+ more, has less cargo space, costs 2x the price similarly equipped, etc.
Crazy this Ioniq 5 also has the same battery/charging tech and it has crazy good thermal management. It was developed to do a hot lap then fast charge and another hot lap without and significant heating concerns. Probably on par or better than what Porsche developed.
But it’s still a Porsche with Porsche quality and brand appeal , this still a Hyundai at the end of the day lol
@@frankcastle1578 And that doesn't distract anyone from the fact that spending 110K on a Porsche just to get gapped by a Hyundai in a straight line and around the track is downright embarrassing. Couldn't imagine having to explain this to my family and other people on why a Hyundai is faster than the new 110k Porsche I just bought lol
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 $220k-$275k not $110k. Porsche is inexcusably expensive
@@frankcastle1578 yeah, It's still a Porsche.
But that Porsche value & heritage, based on technology. The advanced technology can't compete or compare to anyone.
Now, We compare Porche with Hyundai... HYUNDAI.
How long do you think Porsche value will last? I am pretty sure it will die sooner than you think.
@@frankcastle1578
The Macan is Porsche's mistake and shame. It used low-cost LFP batteries from China. If the Porsche Macan were to meet the ioniq 5n on the road, it would be ridiculed into tatters due to the overwhelming performance difference. Even if the Macan is sprinting at top speed, the ioniq 5n can taunt it by circling it. Looking at the ioniq 5n moving away, you can say: Hmm~ Although most of these cars have cheap batteries made in China, the emblem on the steering wheel is beautiful. Looks like it's worth $40,000.
Everyone i've seen so far that got their hands on this can't help but smile driving this. And I think that's exciting. Yes, it's not for everyone, but those that want to have fun definitely will with this car it seems.
Absolute beast. This thing is awesome!
At least with this price, there is no competitor in the world. There's no EV which can take more than two laps of Nurburgring with full sprint other than this with near stock version under 150k. But in the States, consumers must take too much markup to get this one.
Why couldn't a Model 3 Performance? Even with its optional track package it costs less than this Hyundai.
@@henryyiu618the model 3 is a car this isn’t
@@dillonbanks609 and? i was responding to no other EV can track the ring not no other SUV.
What about the air pure touring? Similar in price double the range more luxurious and just as fast.
cant wait for the ioniq 6 version!
I can't wait for the GV60 Magma version!
If you're going to make an EV hot hatch... this is the way to do it!
Shame Kia EV6 GT didnt go the extra mile with similar features, way more aggressive styling and driving dynamics. Well done Hyundai!
That is marketing to be expected. Always something better is coming. They will probably spice it up further with the GV60 magma.
EV6 GT is a $60k car while this N is $100k car. Big difference

I would get into some serious trouble if this was ever in my possession. Therefore, I will stay away from it and just admire it from a distance. Another win for Hyundai.
The joy was obvious when you were performing the 0-60 mph tests...yes the sound is artificial but together with all that power it sounded pretty fun and made me want to go and order one now, lol
It's impressive how well the "fake" sounds are integrated into the car. Quality implementation.

I own a 2023 Ioniq 5 SEL AWD and it’s pretty fun. It’s quick not fast. But this 5N is amazing and on another level. Too bad Stealerships will kill anyone’s hopes of not paying $20K mark ups on this low volume performance model. Sad. 😢 Great review as always RR!
Above MSRP should be banned by the automaker!

Been waiting for this review!
One of your best videos yet you’ve made, been watching it for many years!!
It looks very fun !!
Keep up the good work I love what you do !!😁
For the record you need a travel itinerary just to operate the starship. Insane amount of gadgets and power.
Wow, just love that steering wheel!!
My coworker showed me her Tesla model Y making fart noise...but I definitely want this one any day.
I've never seen you have this much fun!
Excellent review! Nice job showing and explaining the features that set it apart from it's competitors. It actually looks like it's "fun" to drive--well done Hyundai.
Dude you're my favorite car reviewer. Great work.
This ev looks sick!! I like the fake sound a lot really!!
This is such a cool car! With a lot of quirks and features

Holding out for the Rivian R3X but this is promising and good to see from Hyundai
No EV will ever be as fun to drive as a true ICE car, nor have as much of a pure driving experience, but the way Sofyan raves about this car certainly has peaked my interest in it.
Can't duplicate the real ICE experience but Hyundai has gotten the closest with this one. Kudos to those engineers. They killed it. 👍
Thats an impressive little hot hatch. Wow.
Love to see the Elantra N influence in it!
they make one
This thing is SO SICK
You making me fall in love with this car!! 😂
Dang no heads up display? It's one of my favorite features of the 2024 Ioniq5.
Honestly no different than playing video games. We enjoy all the car noises going on in a video game so getting some simulated shifts and sounds in the real world is still very fun.
GREAT REVIEW!👍🏽👍🏽
In australia getting a sunroof for the Ionic 5n is a option
Love this thing!
Smiles per kilowatt hour 😁
Omg. Nvr seen u genuinely suprised and happy
It looks 🔥. Hyundai's been seriously cooking lately.
Game changer. I said this when they first announced the ioniq 5n. Now ppl are seeing it. N to the world.
As a performance enthusiast, I really like the acceleration and handling aspects, I think this car will be popular.
Oh man, this looks fun. I can't wait until they make a smaller hot hatch like the Kona EV in to an N version. Having a true FWD hot hatch EV would be sick. Also, it would be nice if you could adjust the power without the full gimp Eco mode. 600 HP is a little too much to actually enjoy when just driving around. If you could tune it down to 300 HP but keep the AWD and throttle response and the sound, that would be flawless.
My ionic 5 has been flawless, great car
I currently have an EV6 GT. This is nice but it has too many sacrifices to be a daily for me. I knew this a couple of months ago prior to getting my GT. As much as I like how it looks like inside (now) and outside I didn't want to wait for it as the GT has several things that I like over it. I wanted an opening sunroof and was surprised today that it doesn't have a HUD either which I use everyday. I do appreciate that they were able to retain the vent seats though. I just wish there were buttons for them instead of going through the screen. This seems to be a cross between the old gen and the new gen coming out. I would actually be more interested in the N-line instead. I didn't want to track my car so I knew the 5 N was not for me. This is a great car if you want to track it tho but to me the sound would get old quick. Whoever gets this car enjoy it! It's just not for me and I'm fine with that. Call me old hehe. 😊
Guaranteed that hyundai will have Many more sound options available in this platform as a download upgrade.
Ioniq 5 just got refreshed in Korea which gets physical buttons for heated and cool seats.
@@blackwhirlwind1245 yeah I know. I just found out a little ago that th Canadian spec has a HUD. This is a real shame for HUD fans.
That Nos "NGB" button that adds 40 hp for 10 secs is epic lol
Remember it's not 601 to the crank it's 601 to the wheels at all times. It's absolutely insane. How much money or mods you have to pay to get to that whp numbers
Did they upragde the brake fluid on the tester before the track event?
Hearing that laugh tells me everything I need to know
Uk gets vision roof as an option but very limited colour range. Wireless Apple CarPlay and android auto is standard as this has upgrades similar to the facelift regular I5. Also noticed your key fob doesn’t have the remote park buttons. Car scene Korea’s review a few months ago had a key with these functions
This machine even shines more on a race track. 😊
Been hoping for an EV like this and Hyundai seems to have exceeded expectations. I would love the ability to emulate different drivetrains/engines complete with shifting characteristics and engine sounds. Now we just need more high powered chargers at tracks.
This, the Taycan, and the Rimac Nevera are the only three EVs that I can’t bring myself to hate.
This is faster than most of the Taycan trims unless you get the most expensive one for like 3.5 times the price. Hilarious
@@frf1670Except the range is a joke at 221miles. Taycan demolishes that.
@@SAT1337 the update Taycan yes the older taycan no lol but I wouldn’t say demolish. The range posted for taycan is euro standard which is very much inflated
@@frf1670 Bjorn tested real world range. Even for the old one, it’s far better than this ioniq 5N.

20:51 with all due respect sir, the model three performance of last year end of years prior did 3.1 seconds. 😮
Wow!! What a cool EV! Do you prefer the N series over your Mach E?
Great Job Hyundai!!! Love the simulated noise! Other automakers take notice
car scene: you cant never make an Ev thats fun to drive
Me: an intellectual:
As an owner of a model 3 performance for the last 5 years, this thing is sick. I wish it had a little more mileage for the occasional trip to take my wife to the airport. But man, if I ever start to hate my model 3 (which I doubt) or when it starts to fall apart, this will be on the top of my list of replacement cars.
you know what,if i wanted a small high performance ev,this would probably be my top choice, second to the taycan turbo s. but honestly for what you get, this is one cool of an ev. Props to hyundai.
model 3 owner here. i live in korea right now and test driven this thing multiple times. Tesla has some serious work to do. this is a whole new world. trust me. wish i could afford it right now.
your reaction when you floored it from a stop was gold!!
Best review on I5N
EXPENSIVE
I have a question, he said that Hyundai had to remove the panarama roof from the 5N but on the official german Hyundai Website there is still an optional package for the sunroof. Is it just a mistake from the video creator or is there some background to this?
I like to see you smile with N.
I’m getting one for sure 👍 🎉
The fact someone can say a Hyundai captures 90% of the performance of a Porsche... that says volumes. I mean of course it's nowhere near something like a GT3, but hyundai being compared to any performance Porsche is crazy, and I think they're putting the EV industry on notice. I hope all manufacturers pay attention and put in eshift with interior simulated sound, etc. That's how you get car enthusiasts to look at an EV.
I am a proud owner of a 2021 Hyundai Veloster N and I can confidently say this is just a slightly faster electrified version of my car, which is hardly a bad thing since most EV’s wish they were as fun as a Veloster N. Great job Hyundai 👏🏻
3.1 sec 0-60 is a lot more than "slightly faster" imo. 😁
@@doudymac only 1.7 that’s not a ton.
@@talentscoutreactsthats a lot faster. It costs a lot of money to make up that 1.5 seconds
Veloster N does 1/4 mile in 13.8s. This does it in 11.3. That’s a night and day difference. Now imagine around a lap!
So it actually jerks when you shift?
The Evolution sound is from the Hyundai VISION GT race car
It would be nice if Hyundai/Kia would introduce cloud-based derived maps just like Toyota did with their more recent infotainment system.
In regards to infotainment systems, companies like Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, Mercedes, BMW (and now Toyota) got it right.
Awesome hot electric hatch, bet the Kona is next possible
Seventy Thou-Wow!!!
No longer the eco-hatch from the good 'ol days. That performance will come at nearly luxury car prices.
@@krane15 I get that and I suspect these EVs will sell to some extent. My point is, close to $70k and name/brand recognition, that price opens up many more well established brands, even in the ICE options. Some of us look at more than $1 per blended hp, in the $70s range. Also, do you know what depreciation means for some brands? Nice car but this brand was once a value leader.
It’ll be $40k very soon. EV don’t sell well and $70k for a Hyundai 😅

I wouldn’t mind this
I wish they had a long range version to this with 400+ mile range on a full charge
This has me pumped for the GV60 Magma!
Trying to figure out how the hell to get winter wheels / tires on this thing with those calipers ought to be interesting (if not impossible).

This car seems freakin' amazing!! The only thing I'm concerned with is the range - 221 miles?! I'm really looking forward to the day when Lithium Ion battery technology progresses and we can hopefully double that range without significantly adding to the weight.
My myp has been best cornering racy car I've ever owned. I've had camaro gt with lowering kit. Etc.
they need to have an option with powerseats tbh.. some people like to go fast but doesn't necessarily have to have be "track" car. Some of us just want a performance car with comfortable/convenient seats.
The seats are comfortable, it's the same offered in the Ev6 GT. Only letdown is it's manually operated. But unlike the Ev6 GT, this has ventilated seats
Toyota and Honda , learning from Hyundai's 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oh man, I can see my wife making fun of me revving. And that’s why I love it!
FINALLY, a car company who figured out the sounds for an electric car. I was hoping BMW would do it but THANK YOU HYUNDAI for figuring it out. Figure out the adding 100 more miles of range, I would buy one.
That’s a wild statement 👀
