    I think each exercise has it's purpose, that includes diamond push ups,
    There are obviously bad exercises but you can't go wrong with doing the ones that work right.
    Diamond push ups will work on your triceps and clavicular portion,
    Cobra push ups are also efficient for this.

    • @JerryTeixeira
      @JerryTeixeira  Před 8 měsíci +1

      If you have the mobility for them they are fine, but there isn't any magic in forcing the triangle as opposed to the fingers being a couple inches apart. I have seen a lot of people forcing the triangle even though its uncomfortable for them as if there is some kind of special benefit that you dont get if the fingers aren't making a diamond.
      Good call on the clavicular head. I Also like pushups with feet elevated to work the clavicular head and serratus.

    This is partially correct.
    If done with improper form (flared elbows) then close grip is better for triceps.

    I dont have any studies but to me it makes sense for the diamond pushup to be more effective for chest Specifically the upper chest because the upper chest Fibers Run Diagonally and if you elevate your feet its like a better Incline bench as long as you have a way to progressively overload it.

    • @JerryTeixeira
      @JerryTeixeira  Před 10 měsíci

      If you flare the elbows you reduce pectoral engagement, Diamond are fine if you dont' flare your elbows much, but a lot of people cant comfortably do them without the flared elbows

    What is the proper way to do pushups for the inner chest?
    I was always told Diamond pushups.

    • @JerryTeixeira
      @JerryTeixeira  Před 9 měsíci +2

      You can’t. The pecs contract across the entire breadth of the muscle regardless, so you can’t target inner chest because it’s just the point in your pec major where it attaches to the sternum.
      You can target the clavicular head more, which is the upper chest. Incline presses, such ad handstand push-ups at an angle with feet against the wall will work

  • @hillboy1611
    @hillboy1611 Před 10 měsíci

    This statement that it has less tricep and less pectoral engagement has an inheret flaw in logic. If an exercise has less engagement in one muscle, than that force has to come from another body part to do the movement.
    In the (Diamond-)Pushup the pecs aswell as triceps are some of the primary movers of this exercise. How could engagement be lower in both, that makes no sense. The force has to be created somewhere and I don't believe it shifts more focus to the front delts than normal pushups so....??

    • @JerryTeixeira
      @JerryTeixeira  Před 10 měsíci

      Yeah I didn't catch that I misspoke until a couple weeks after I posted it, If you flare the elbows much then pectoral engagement is lower and anterior deltoid is higher. The thing is, a lot of people cant do them comfortably without flaring the elbows. It's not the the diamond is bad, as long as you can do comfortably without having to flare the elbows.
