56 yo disabled vet (Iraq 2006) Snowboarding has changed my entire life. I'm one of the oldest women I know riding in summit county, CO. I watch films and go try what I think I've learned. Full body protection has kept me from dying. A few cracks and pops later, I'm 16 days into our season. Just rode two storm days and my legs are like jelly, heart is full. Best buds out there are the young guys/grrls. They watch out for me and help. We don't leave our own behind. Love is in the air. Full-speed ahead! Thanks for the film, it's beyond words.
It's not about the celebrities of boarding. It's about that feeling you get going down that run, that back country, everything that changed your view on the world. It's about the freedom you feel on that board.
Watching this in 2021. 41 years old, new to snowboarding. Can barely make turns but I'm getting there. Thanks to these pioneers. This film was well made. Thank you!
Im 35 and ive recently got into snowboarding and after looking at all the companies I realized Burton loves vets and appreciate them so much we get a discount! Thank you to everyone who took part in inventing this sport! Burton forever..
As soon as I heard "it all started with ny little board" a wave of emotions flooded me and I cant stop crying. I am so greatful to have grown up in a time and place with my parents in a position to take me to the ski hill when I was 7 ever since then snowboarding has been my expression of joy. Maybe its cause my dad just died and it was his love that brought the mountains into my life. Maybe its cause snowboarding is the only thing in my life that I will choose to do till I die. Maybe it has more to do with how beautiful it is to be so free in the mountains and the skills, life lessons and friendships I have made through the bond we have. Maybe its all of that and so much more I cant explain. I know I will never forget, and the love will never die as there is nothing more peaceful and satisfying to me than being in the mountains with family and friends sliding on the soft pillowy freshness that is snowboard life.
Amazing documentary! I love the reporter "packed with phrases such as Rip it up, dude". He says it so uncomfortably I'm dying 😂
I'm 32 just snowboard for the first time. I fell in love with it. I just wished I picked up this hobby sooner.
Rest In Peace Jake Burton Carpenter.
RIP Craig Kelly. What you did for snowboarding will never be forgotten.
This documentary seriously brought me to literal tears. I fell in love with this sport only a month ago and I still remember the first time I was able to actually ride. The joy and that feeling, truly indescribable. I had no idea any of the history behind it and it makes me so happy to now know. I may have only started a month ago but after my 4th day ever I bought my new set up because I realized that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. I'm planning on going to CU Boulder for college and all I want is to be a pro. If I can't I want to be that snowboarder that kids look up to in the ski resort who's absolutely shredding and making the entire resort there playground.
Ride in peace Jake. Thank you for everything you've done for snowboarding. Yesterday you left us, but snowboarding will always be with us.
Im old enough that i did actually own a snurfer in my youth and i started snowboardng when Sorels were still widely considered the best boots avail. .. so i appreciate seeing this ... Its still hard to believe it took so long for snowboarding to reach where it is today...
I’m teaching my fiancé how to snowboard, she wants to go everyday now. I’m glad this will be in our family forever
Hey if any of these awesome people who were in this documentary are reading this I just want to thank you for your contribution <3
Snowboarding changed my life. As a kid I hated sports.
Then, on a cold February day during a school trip I strapped into a snowboard and managed to link turns on the very first day.
The next winter was particularly snowy. One day, I was alone on the peak of the hill, chest-deep in powder, clouded by fog and silence. That day I found not only peace and wonder for the hill, but a taste of heaven, for surfing powder was like riding clouds.
Every year I cannot wait for the first snow. I <3 boardin
Watching Craig Kelly ride lines in the backcountry strikes a profound feeling in me. So smooth, so stylish and so soulful. R.I.P
I remember Tom Sims from high school in NJ. He and his friends would make their own skateboards back in the very early 70's. They called skateboarding "birding" though. I remember Tom's father really seeing the commercial potential way back then. Tom was known for his drawing and cartoons as well...talented guy.
Thank you to every single boarder who founded, pioneered and persevered to give me the opportunity to experience boundless freedom in the mountains.
Made it fully through, one sitting, absolutely AMAZING. 11 years old, been snowboarding for about a year.
I have been snowboarding since 1992 and I just got the recent pleasure of teaching my youngest how to ride last week. This movie was a greats trip down memory lane. Truly a great film.
