My name is Chris, I am a 3D printing hobbyist from australia. I dont really specialise in anything specific, but 3D printed tools and tabletop accessories are some things youll probably seen quiet often. I do all my 3d printing on a Ender 3, which I highly recommend as a budget printer. Currently I only run 1 printer but I hope to expand that in the future. Recently acquired a photon 0 to do resin printing with. I like to share all my 3D printing ideas for free although I do plan to sell stuff in the future. Most of my projects will be mostly 3D printed with a few non printed components included, these can often be found on ebay. I actually use the cheapest filament I can get for all my projects, again I hope to change this in the future. - Jak na to + styl
Now 3D print a pencil for rewinding.
Great video. Keep up the good work.
All cassette players rewind way faster, but less fun
More likely to be used for that is a Bic pen, not a pencil. VWestlife did a video on it, and did find the pencil that likely inspired the illustration of using a pencil in manuals, but besides Japan, the rest of the world used Bic pens.
@@Bleats_Sinodai I'm from UK and I used a pencil.
I did do something like this! Was messing around with MiniDV tapes and needed something to wind them manually, created a gear system so all it takes is one crank to turn it.
Western pencils can't wind tapes
As a cassette enthusiast, a few things worthy of note:
The Compact Cassette standard is available via Google patents.. tried making my own version but gave up 😅.
Instead of looking at brick-and-mortar stores, Facebook marketplace has proven to be am amazing source for vintage gear and media. There was once 10 metal tapes for around $2 each (an insane deal for those not in the know).
Some recording tips: if you are recording with Dolby Noise Reduction don't forget to record at the Dolby symbol, and not 0DB.
whats the difference between symbol and 0db
@@Vexcenot the symbol is Dolby Level, or 200nWb/m
Good tips for sure, if im being honest I mostly wanted an excuse to go to op shops ehe, the recording tip is good to know my first try left a lot to be desired.
the bad to the bone riff softly playing in the background at 0:35 got me
Love the dankpods reference lol
what do you mean cashies didn’t change your life?
Oooooo I found it at cashies mate, where you can find your dreams!
Oh, I found it at Cashies, mate
Where you can find your dreams
They've got wares and chairs and a bog downstairs
Some clubs, some tubs, and hats for scrubs
And out of date movies
So get on down to Cashies, mate
You know it'll change your life
So get off the floor, head out the door
Forget eBay, they charge you more
And lose your life at Cashies
ima see you in the next 6 months (golf club)
hes also austrialian i think so he got a cashies too im assuming or its the same one
Learning how to slow down is essential. I can only assume the tactile experience with a custom cassette is exquisite.
Exactly this. Ive just read atomic habits and it lead me to realise how little ritual is in my day to day life. To start spotify is a click of the keyboard that I dont even think about, cassettes add just enough steps so I need to think about what im doing and where im at.
0:50 i don't know how aussies are so chill with spiders. Even standing that close would freak me out and putting my finger that close would make me instantly vomit from my phobia
Ikr, if there was a spider on or in my car I'd die on the spot
Australia
Evolution
I have that same "walkman" (its a Toshiba) still works too! Got it for Christmas in the 80s!
I love mine, did you manage to hang onto the FM cassette?
god that dankpods reference caught me off guard so hard
2:19 I love how confident you are not editing out voicecracks like this
Now i want a casset tape texture mod for Minecraft (replaces the jukebox too, makes the side look like where you insert it.)
It does exist. I think the name of it is just cassettes
Short one for this week, Ball Vise V1.5 with the easier to source amazon parts should be dropping in 4 or 5 days. Will include a full video build guide for all the bits and pieces.
Revisit the die filer please
You know you're an Australian when you high five a large spider
yes
Large?
@@Scout_VR106 oh sorry I should have said massive
@@nuclear_war_games massive?
They are fearless
Cashies had none?!! what kind of world are we living in??
Cashies, to be fair, is the most hit or miss store in existence. Either the best deal of your life or broken rubbish for more than retail, almost nothing in-between.
@@Borgedesigns I'm just jealous that any US chashies equivalent is now non-existent. I used the get the biggest rush finding old N64 mem cards or a mint walkman haha
The second hand stores where I live are FULL of cassettes
DANK PODS REFRENCE
Watching a Chris Borge video about 3D printing one of my favourite music formats, cassettes.
*DankPods music starts playing, establishing shot of Cashies*
YEH MATE IT'S A CASHIES SPECIAL GRAB YA NUGGETS AND YA PKCELLS AND GET ON DOWN
Even i am Australian and still that interaction with the Huntsman shoke me
My cassette friend is gonna love this as a mixtape gift!
dunno if youll see this, but why the hell did you choose to look for tapes at second hand stores and not... a record store??? record stores pretty much always have atleast a modest collection of tapes.
It’s Australia, perhaps they don't have a record store near them.
@@The_mrbob ah yes... australia.. the land barren of record stores. ignore the fact that avalanches made a career out of raiding record stores
Record stores look up how much an individual tape goes for. Can be as little as 10 for each one. Homie wanted a bargain
@@not.spir0s Never said Australia didn't have any, but with how many small, isolated rural “towns” there are it’s very likely that perhaps they don’t have a record store near them. I don't live in Australia, so I just made an inference. Here in the States record stores are an artifact lol, you’d be best off looking online or at Barne’s and Nobles.
I have toured all the second hand stores and music stores in my town for years. Only ever found cassettes once,at an op shop. Also, no one really wants to pay for new ones
So rad!! I really appeciate the shoutout!!🙏
The modifications you did my model really took it to the next level! 🔥🔥
I loved that dankpods reference
Looks good as it is but having the creeper face clear would look really good.
I considered vacuum forming a clear insert, might come back to it in the future.
0:41 oh yeah I can already tell this video's gonna be great
The music while showing cashies on screen gave me chills
YOU HAVE BALLS OF METAL FOR TOUCHING THAT SPIDER IF I DID THAT I WOULD BE DEAD
If I’ve even saw that I would fly halfway across the world
@@somebody-took-my-been 💀me tooo
I FUCKING HATE SPDIERsS
This one hit both of my interests
3:42 While I'm also grateful for modern tech I really love oldschool. I love my Walkman and I like making cassettes. I connect my pc to my Hifi which means my PC can't make any other sound. That means I have to read or do something else while making my cassettes and I love that part of the process
For faster music transfer, you'd need to find yourself something supports high-speed dubbing. Many stereos with two tape slots had this feature. More expensive equipment could work faster. On the other hand, finding the exact dubbing speed(s) for what you have, keeping quality high and getting it to work from an external input are all problems that would need to be solved. (Hint for the latter at least: An AUX-to-cassette adapter ought to work if nothing else does.)
Bro didn't found his dreams at cashies
This is a genuinely creative idea & great project!
This is such a neat little project! Keep up the good work man!
It feels like it's 50/50 if any video I watch is gonna have a Dankpods reference these days, love to see it
This is so sick! It's so cool to see the intersection of Minecraft, Cassette tapes, and 3D Printing
i love cashies, just because it seems like they have EVERYTHING whenever i see a video visiting them, is just a mesmerizing thing. that's legit one of the reasons i want to move to australia... sadly they didn't had cassetes, sadge
Once again a great video, I love the Minecraft design on this!
Very high quality video for such a small challenge. Love how you're combining two hobbies into one :)
I absolutely love old technology even though i wasn’t born back when this stuff was made it still makes me oddly nostalgic
Just don’t leave your tapes on the dash of that hot car!
FYI “high speed dubbing” was a thing even on some home dual cassette decks. It just runs the tape faster while recording. All the cool kids swapping tapes said it wasn’t as good quality.
I still have memories of some bands that don’t sound quite right listening today because I was so used to that hiss and warble vibe.
Very cool project, nicely done 👍
I like how you joined the two parts with tabs and glue. So simple and effective.
Dude, I've been looking for this exact thing. Life saver
I LOVE ALPHA AND BETA! I have so much nostalgia even from the ones I don't recognise from the game itself.
I watched the entire video and the only thing I got out of it was the fact you high fived the spider with no fear.
as someone who recently got a hankering to start using CDs for my own music listening, i found this video quite entertaining, even if it was a different medium. i like how you can make your own artwork for cassettes, thats not something i thought was possible. bravo!
This is so fricking cool! Thanks for sharing your work :>
I got my cassette tapes at a thrift store, they were 10 cents each. I got around 15-20 ish cassette tapes, when ever I go back and they have tapes I buy them. I got my cassette player from a flee market, it was $20 but I didn’t have any haggling or bargaining skills at the time so I didn’t get it for cheaper.
Nice! I love cassettes and recently started collecting movies on film reels; for some reason returning to analog tech just makes me really happy. Digital is super easy, but it doesn't spark my soul
Great video!
such a smart idea
dude thats a great video
Yo, this is sick! I'm gonna have to print out a ton to tapes now, lol.
Very cool!
3D printed cassette tapes is so backwards. It’s hilarious, I love it
Incredibly based album choices. Alpha and Beta are true masterpieces of ambient music that reach far beyond the game they were created for. Own them both on CD, but your cassette designs are sick. Highly recommend checking out the Minecraft Midwest emo album done here by saddyowner on CZcams, you’d love it. The arrangement of living mice especially is incredible. Great video
i would probhably make soundwaves cassetbots and have the g1 series OST on them...
0:45 If i saw a spider that big i would disintegrate
NO WAY YOU EVEN TOUCHED IT
This is amazing 👌
This'll go viral in like 12 years.
pretty badass to have minecraft on tape
Okay, when you designed custom cassette artwork, my immediate first thought was making cassettes that look like Soundwave’s cassette bots from Transformers.
why does this only have 100k views this is so good
awesome! I wanted to do the same thing with my cannibalized cassette parts, but I don’t think I was able to find a model at the time. Will love to try this model out out when I get a chance.
guy reinvents cassette tapes. finally, the reign of spotify is gone. all hale cassettes.
One day, we’ll 3D print the tape part as well!
this was something i actually wanted to do too, if it were possible. Cassettes are cool! and i'm pretty sure it'd be slightly possible to print a Vinyl Record eventually, so why not print Cassette Film?
Pointless projects are usually the more fun ones. Great job!
Great video to eat breakfast to. :]
(and i got to listen to two incredible albums as background music)
This pretty sweet
Finnaly something to Create our Own Storage....
Great for 8 bit Computers
but one thing still is missing
Making the Actuall Storage Unit of the Cassete tape
0:31 hey, I understood that reference
bro just casually gave a spider a high five
Had an idea similar to this but with CD’s instead, but with how they store data meaning it might be possible to print one with data on it, and if you’re wondering CDs store data buy having little grooves on the smooth surface which is picked up by a scanner in a CD reader
that was the scariest spider i've ever seen
colored cassete tapes are so nostalgic to me. You can deadass still buy new cassettes with audiobooks in germany. The olschool classics like Drei ???, Bibi, Benjamin, TKKG etc
High-fiving a huntsman has gotta be in top 10 aussie things to do.. :D
I have that same cassette deck!
I love that lighting! What do you use?
Great vid as always!
I’m curious about your difficulty finding cassettes though: At least here in the US, Amazon sells new ones from Maxell for ~$9 for two or $14 for a pack of 5. I guess you spent less, but it seems like the time to visit all the 2nd hand shops would be worth more than the $5 savings.
(Not meant as a criticism, I love everything you publish! 👍😁)
Cassettes and video cassettes are 🔥🔥🔥until you see the tape spill out of the recorder
0:31 DANKPODS!!!
Didn’t expect the dankpods reference
Pretty awesome man! Maybe you could try 3d modeling a VHS tape in the future or something
dankpods reference Love it 💚
I've always been a fan of older thing such as well, cassettes. Kinda sad that i don't have a 3D printer though.
Maybe some day...
I need this
0:31 CASHIES MATE
Flashing lights! ⚠️
Print some VHS tapes now!
Ahh!! Dude im doin that xD
Your next project should be 3d printing a cassette player
Back in 2020 my local Walmart had blank cassettes from there Onn brand of electronics for around $5 for a 2 pack. Ended up getting all the tapes they had.
Nice
0:48You were saying high 5 and the spider:nope I'm out of too here I hate this human
This is classic and looks good
volume alpha actually has an official cassette release, fun fact. However beta still hasnt been released :/
Bro if I saw that spider in the UK I'd run a mile... I am not cut out for Australia
That is true music
the fact that most people in the USA will scream ai a 5cm big spider while Australian s are askin 1in big spiders for high fives
AMAZING VID! I wonder if it's possible to 3d print a cassette player 🤔
Cassettes could have games on them to! You could try make one with minecraft in ir!
DANKPODS MENTIONED?1?1?1
If I could print a case, it would be awesome.
