  • How to setup a spyserver and share a RTL-SDR over a network on DragonOS LTS. Hang around till the end and I go over how to setup Win10 to connect to the spyserver over TOR.

So, with this configuration, i don't need any port forwarding to access spyserver with different network?

With TOR, no.. but there’s probably much better/easier ways now. ZeroTier or Tailscale for example. Neither require port forwarding if using the free public options.

    Just a stupid newbie question.
I understand that tor and an onion router are for privacy. But are you running tor so you can have a private spyserver connection ? I just never heard of that form of privacy to listen to a sdr dongle.
    Any benefits doing this.

Hi, all good questions. Honestly, my thought process was to use this option in the event I had no way to port forward, didn’t want to pay for a VPN, or use any other service to gain access to the remote SDR. It seemed as though once Tor synced, then I could access the radio behind NAT/Firewall etc, unless it was specifically blocked. I don’t recall the performance being that great though. The speeds were maybe a little slow, but definitely better with spyserver vs rtl_tcp.

You’d have to buy probably some specialized directional antenna and other hardware like amp/lna to increase the receiver range.
