WarDragon Setting Up TAK Server 5.2 on DragonOS + Flightview_GUI with AirspyR2 (TAR1090) Part 2
In this second video of this three-part series, we dive deeper into integrating tar1090 data into a Cursor on Target (CoT) format for seamless use with a TAK server. You'll learn how to move certificates, install key tools like adsbcot, pytak, and aircot on the WarDragon system, and get the FlightView GUI up and running again.
adsbcot: github.com/snstac/adsbcot
FlightView GUI: github.com/alphafox02/flightview_gui
We'll create and configure a config.ini file for adsbcot and demonstrate how to run it to see live aircraft data populating in WebTAK on your TAK server.
What is CoT?
Cursor on Target (CoT) is a data format that allows for real-time exchange of position and status information between systems, which is crucial for maintaining situational awareness in a TAK ecosystem. In this video, I explain how JSON data from dump1090's /data/aircraft endpoint is converted into CoT messages, which are then transmitted to the TAK server for real-time tracking of aircraft.
So What?
Understanding this integration is key for anyone looking to enhance their situational awareness capabilities. By transforming aircraft data into CoT format and visualizing it within TAK, you're enabling real-time decision-making and coordination, whether it's for emergency response or advanced hobbyist tracking.
Stay tuned for the final part of this series, where I'll walk you through setting up ATAK on a client to connect to your TAK server.

    Thank you for the video! Quick question, will the Airspy setup also receive 978mhz UAT/ADSB-R traffic? I'm close to a general use airport, so I frequently see planes using that mode. I tested my Airspy R2 with DragonOS and was only able to get 1090 traffic and my attempts at installing the 978 software was "less than fruitful", to put it mildly. Hi, I know it isn’t relevant to this video except DragonOS, how do I decode VDL2 using DumpVDL2 within DragonOs with an RTL SDR or the SDRPlay RSP1A. Is it possible? If it is possible do you know of any videos or documents that show how to set it up? I have got the MultiPSK software that can decode it but can’t workout how to set up VDL2 decoding with that yet. Also on my desktop computer Windows 10, when I start MultiPSK I get an error message saying the line in on the sound card is in use by another program. It starts up on my laptop Windows 11 ok though but not really sure how to set it up. Regarding Inmarsat 25 E, the audio channels don’t seem to be there anymore or they are weak. The data modes are weak too. 54 W maybe be a bit better but it’s at quite a low elevation from where I am. If you can help with VDL2 reception setup and the Inmarsat reception I would appreciate it. Thank you Andrew.

      DragonOS has dumpvdl2 included. That shouldn’t be a problem. I’ll look around for a video as I think I did one showing how I got mutiple things going at one time. But just dumpvdl2 on its own can run with an rtlsdr.

    • @cemaxecuter7783
      @cemaxecuter7783 Před 29 dny

      @andrewlincoln9766 correct, but if you want to use it on say windows, you could use it within a docker. For example (this is from my Linux repo) github.com/alphafox02/flightview_gui/blob/main/docker-compose-dumpvdl2.yml But on DragonOS it’s just installed native and available at a command line prompt. You can also use sdrplay equipment. I need to check your original message, you’re intending to use DragonOS or something else?

      @andrewlincoln9766 for DragonOS have a look here github.com/szpajder/dumpvdl2?tab=readme-ov-file#basic-usage You’ll find command line examples for rtlsdr an sdrplay. Just start it with dumpvdl2 and not ./dumpvdl2 and use the remaining part of each example, that’ll get you going. In windows I’m not familiar. A virtual machine of DragonOS, docker, or WSL is your best bet.

    What is the use of the remote ID ? They can only be tracked a relatively short distance and there is no "Drone ATC" that tracks them all in the airspace so what use are they ? I'm hoping someone here can illuminate to me their usefulness beyond being a potential revenue source for the FAA via fines...I watched part of the RDQ invasion of privacy lawsuit unfold and it appeared the judges were fed up with the FAA until the FAA lawyers finally threw out the old "National Security" mantra against our toys being flown in parks..weak..🙄

    • @cemaxecuter7783

      I’ve managed so far to detect the remote ID over 1km away when it’s the Bt5 Long Range type and that’s with only an 8db small Omni antenna. I suspect it can be received much much further making it likely more relevant.

    • @cemaxecuter7783
      @cemaxecuter7783 Před měsícem

      Like you said though, it’s probably to have something in order to detect if a drone or drones are in unauthorized areas, but only if there’s some device locally there set up to receive. I just think I can extend that range way out for more of a protective measure of sorts.
