    If that was a hipped roof, start on one side. Get under the shingle and paper. Roll it all like a burrito. Gets most of the nails, and keeps your mess minimized.
    Glad to see you're posting videos again.

    grab one shingle vertical the rest horizontal and either leave bigger bungles or bring them straight to the dump, so you don't have to come back or my favorite is with one pitch fork I like to grab 5-6 shingles and pick from the bottom up in a straight line across the roof and have someone follow me tearing off by hand sometimes I find that easier when your alone

    In Canada we could never do roofs like this. To many roofers installing granular ice and water on entire roofs impossible to strip. And most homes in my area are not straight gables.

      @@mrdmnghi how many homes have you done this year that got 20 years, were a walker and a straight gable. I think I did one. It was a two story needed all new wood fascia and sub fascia with a big drip edge/shingle starter. And was only 9 years old. Most replacements I’ve been doing are 3-7. Whether they did horrible flashing jobs or used those organic shingles or shingled in winter etc. Customers pays cash to save a few bucks ends up paying for 3 roofs in the end. Hire licensed/insured contractors that know what products to use on different pitches and how to flash.

    Would like to know the pros and cons of racking versus pyramid and whether it’s possible to transition from one to the other on the same roof plane? As it would relate to 3-tab shaaangles.

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  Před 2 lety +1

      Can't rack architectural shingles it'll instantly void the warranty. Must be stair stepped.

    • @Edmocci
      @Edmocci Před 2 lety

      Thanks VC. You probably didn’t see my edit that it was 3 tab, but it sounds like you like racking if it can be done. I’m removing racked shingles as I go so I guess I’ll stick with racking the new. Unless I get gutsy and strip a whole plane.

    again might look all fast tearing off like that now a nigga has to go back and bang nails for days... "do it once do it right"... i use the classic red ripper for the side two shingles at a time and get all the nails when my rip is done i don't have to go back and look for nails...

    Curious to why you use a pitchfork? I feel like they wouldn’t rip nails as well rather just pull the shingles up. I’ve used shingle eaters my whole life. Just curious thanks!

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  Před 2 lety +1

      Just depends on the way its coming up. Sometimes it comes off so easy it's worth it to just go back n have a chill time popping nails. I didn't use them on the entire roof but I did for most of it. If I had another guy doing the same it'd be better for the visual

    • @davidmichael6488
      @davidmichael6488 Před 2 lety +1

      yes worth it on dimensionals because a regular tear-off bar is going to rip through the shingle and you need double the effort to take it off. only takes 10min to go back and get nails

      They're really worth it on a 3 tab tear off that's stacked, on warm tar paper. You get under it all, about a 3rd of the nails come with it and it rolls nicely. Depends on the job. It wasn't coming up very easily with the tear off shovels on this side, the next side however we switched it up a little bit. Life's Apprentice will have some of the footage on his page
