- There have been plenty of unmade sequels out there that would have likely been better than the sequels we DID get. From Elm Street to Halloween, the lesser idea has won out time and time again. And you would think that the return of the original screenwriter would result in absolute gold. But what we got instead was anything but, so join us as we dive into Bernard Rose's Candyman: The Midnight Meat Train.
Written, Narrated and Edited by Tyler Nichols
Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols
Executive Producer: Berge Garabedian
SERIES SYNOPSIS: This series, "WTF Happened To This Unmade Horror Movie" takes a look at the various horror projects that could never seem to get things off the ground, be it for budgetary concerns, creative differences, or just an ever-evolving Hollywood landscape. We dive into every aspect and see just how close these films had come to cameras rolling.

Philip Glass rarely gets credit for ‘Helen’s Theme’…. So amazing and recognizable.
Entire Candyman score is legendary.
He didn't even know he was making a horror film score 😂
Legend says if you're in the middle of a dark theater watching a movie and you say "Shyamalan" three times at the screen, you get a horrible twist which ruins you're entire viewing experience...
Lmfao! Yes!
🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for the Candyman content. Such an underrated franchise and even the recent version makes me wish Tony Todd received more credit
Anytime
That candyman reboot didn’t just fail to connect with audiences it failed to even be a faithful sequel. Sometimes it’s better to just let a property lay as opposed to continuing to try and resurrect its corpse.
I enjoyed it... But it did need a little bit more of the gritty atmosphere that the first one did so well. I remember seeing Candyman when I was 7... And the atmosphere of that movie terrified me more than Tony Todd!
@@stevezac_cptlpnshmnt I still rewatch the first one. The atmosphere the acting, even the scares all hold up very well. The reboot lacked so much style and substance.
Candyman remake's 'he can be used by angry black people for revenge on whitey' twist was incredibly silly and misunderstood the original badly.
Yep, that movie was absolute shit. They turned Candyman into a BLM Avenger smh
I liked Farewell to the Flesh. I think seeing the backstory on the screen was good. But the original is always the best.
I agree 110%!
Greatest line from Candyman
"I heard you looking for Candyman...BITCH!" ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC
Well you found him....💯✊🏼✊🏼💯
see if they wanted to do a candyman sequel with only Helen, they should have explored the idea of bloody Mary, or the lady in white or the weeping woman
that way if they wanted to continue with Helen's story it can work, I mean they had a pretty good idea of doing different interpretations of the boogeyman or different versions of the lore from different parts of the world, just the execution was odd, I mean the concept like that could work as a stand alone movie ( and yes I am aware they did that in 08) but I mean a network of interchangeable jack the rippers used as butcher's for the royal family is crazy but could work
The end credits of the 2021 Candyman was the best part of the movie...
I bet your one of those "special" people who cried about it being woke LMFAO.....Completely missing that the original is literally the white savior woman saving the poor black neighborhood
The ending of the masters in power (the Royals) devouring the "meat" of the lower class mirrors the ending of Meat Train's short story and adaptation.
So I find it difficult to believe that Rose wasn't trying to make his version on the Barker story all along.
Virginia Madsen would have made a great monster for a direct sequel to the original.
Agreed. I feel like they dropped the ball there.
Yes! I agree they definitely could’ve ran with that!
I can tell you what happened to the unmade Candyman sequel, they ran the franchise into the ground by releasing everything on straight to VHS and Blu-ray. Basically they ran it into the ground until it died. Then they tried an actual sequel to the original. And that kind of sucked.
I can't believe Candyman vs. Leprechaun almost happen.
I may checkout the new Candyman, but with Tony Todd such a small appearance at the very end there I don't know if I should bother.
Rose was trying to "Season of the Witch" the Candyman franchise. It might have turned out to be a good movie, but wouldn't have been what moviegoers wanted to see.
Seems like Rose had a Carpenter idea for a "boogeyman" anthology, too bad he had a similar problem of creating an iconic character that people would be mad to be without.
I think the whole Jack the Ripper being a "Boogeyman" or the original Candyman works, but the twist messes it up.
Phantasm was my 1st scare. The Tall Man haunted my dreams
Anyone else digging the Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Jack the Ripper in the thumbnail.
Bernard should have made midnight meat train. It could have been a spiritual sequel
How about a candyman tv horror Anthology series done Freddy's nightmares style with Tony Todd hosting?
I don't understand the shade thrown at the reboot. It is almost perfect. The themes are just as complex as the first: black identity, generational trauma, myth and superstition in the black community. Violence in the community is intentionally shown to have a long lasting and rippling effect represented most strongly by the main character being the child from the original. This doesn't just connect the films arbitrarily by doing this but creates so much meaning for generational trauma. Black characters are shown to be inherently complicit in the gentrification that effects the neighbourhood when they live in the new condos. I've seen some people react to an anti-white sentiment they seem to think exists and I just think they didn't understand the original's depth or the reboot's, and are also just sensitive and probably a little racist. If the hint at social commentary ruffles your feathers you're honestly probably a little racist come on. THIS one was "hate whitey" but the first one was totally fine, okay. The film even contributes to widening the lore of the original and making explicit the "hive" idea that Helen and others are part of a hive-mind-spirit which explains why we see Helen as the Candyman at the end of the original but why she isn't the main Candyman going forward. The reboot is no original, that's true, but the quality of filmmaking, depth of themes, brutality of death should earn more than a "just kind of a miss" evaluation.
Where's The Midnight Fudge-Packing Express?
Yeah, if that idea was made into a "Candyman" sequel, it would've made folks mad. Especially if it didn't have the titular character in it. It's like making a Halloween movie movie without Michael Myers...oh wait, lol.
Very interesting info on the Candyman sequel from Bernard Rose but it's not really a Candyman sequel. Helen Lyle should have been continued on as a Candyman sequel
Candyman is part of the Slasherverse.
the Candyman remake its one of the few really good remakes, up there with the Evil Dead 2013 and The Thing 1982
Agreed it was very GOOD
It's not a remake but a sequel.
First off, it's not a remake, and second of all, no it's not. It failed on being a sequel to the original and perhaps why you mistaken it as a remake. 😅
Candy man the midnight meat what lol?
Hey candy man, got any of that co-caine?
I don't understand why he's killing his family, and he became Michael miles.
🍻🍻🔥🔥
I feel like the most recent Candyman is such a superior film, I absolutely love it, I dare say it’s on par with the original, can’t decide which one I like more
So glad they didn't do that because that wouldn't make sense
Move over, Candyman. Megan's here and she's coming for you next.
I feel like the first candy man set up sequel never happened is end Helen becoming next candy man they could have next sequel Helen continue as new candy man calming the victim instead we got Tony Todd continue candy man in there sequels.
A Candyman movie about her would be nice. Just keep her hair on this time. I don't get why she's bald?
The fire
Yeah this was a bit too far fetched.
WARNING: NEVER look into a mirror and say... "Sheldon Cooper" five times!!
I tell you what happened
There's over 10 friday the 13ths
There's over 7 nightmare on elm streets
Theres over 7 child's plays
There's over 10 halloween etc
Candyman has 4 movies see the difference
Are you implying there’s an aspect of racial bias in Camdyman only having 4 movies total?
@@sjalusi1 There's a possibility that could be the case. There's over 6 screams There's over 10 hellraisers There's over 10 dracula movies countless of vampire movies over 9 Texas chainsaw massacres over 8 saw movies etc
Your wrong about the new Candyman it was a success it's an awesome Direct Sequel to the First Movie, also i would have loved to see a Candyman vs Pinhead movie since both Characters were Created by Clive Barker why would he shut down that idea he can't do that now he's going to start being a stingy asshole come on someone give us a new Horror Crossover already I mean Candyman and Pinhead have a lot in common it would have been awesome to see Candyman Hive vs Cenobites.
But also they were almost going to do Candyman vs Leprechaun did you know that
Too bad that movie wasnt made
I guess the public was too blinded by the royals back then
Just ask andrew
Yeah - thanks God this movie didn't made. Sounds like even worse version of Exorcist II. Also... I'm not a fan of Royal Family (as well as George Washington - with him being slaver and all of that), but I don't think making them into a literal cannibals would be a particulary clever idea. And not very original because again - Masters of Horror did the same with Washington.
Sorry I'm not watching anything called "Midnight Meat Train"
I would if Alexis Texas was in it...
You off! 😂
I liked the Jordan Peel version because it honored the original by making it continue from the first movie.
They messed up on the 2021 version instead of trying to scare us they trying to wake us up with shit we already know people brutality on blacks we don’t want to see that in horror films we want to see just borrow it should’ve been about Danielle robutile and Anthony not fucking Sherman
Loved the original Candyman.
The 2021 was just woke, propaganda bullshit. It was unwatchable.
That movie sounds awesome what are you talking about
The modern real family is related to Dracula
Ugh, that title sounds like some awful “screenplay” two nerds wrote during lunch time at highschool in 2000. That sounds like a horrid idea and thank Christ it wasn’t made.
I think the angle he was going for was to do for Candyman 2 what John Carpenter was trying to do with Halloween 3. Not make the same thing over and over again, and just do something new and original.
