"Cantigas báquicas" - Brazilian Independence Song
Vložit
- čas přidán 6. 09. 2023
- This song was written in 1826 by José Bonifácio de Andrada, the "Patriarch of Independence" of Brazil. It uses music from the "Himno del Riego", composed in 1816 by José Melchor Gomis and Evaristo San Miguel as a kind of liberal anthem (and briefly adopted as a national anthem during the Liberal government in the 1820s). Bonifácio, who at the time was exiled in France, composed the song as an exaltation to Brazilians who fought for Brazil's independence, but also as a criticism of the authoritarianism of Emperor Dom Pedro I. "Hunchbacks" was how liberals called monarchs authoritarians in the early 19th century.

How cool!
Although clearly from Brazil, the accent of the singing voice sounds very close to european portuguese, which makes it very realistic for a song about the early years of independence, with the elite (like Bonifácio himself) still very lusified.
The singer is probably from Rio de Janeiro
Ehh, that's a pretty typical Rio de Janeiro accent

Second Spanish Republic must be pretty confused right now lol
Happy Independence Day Brazil! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
🇧🇷🫶🏻🇷🇺
The one who must be pretty confused is you. The Riego anthem does not date from the Second Spanish Republic, but from the pronouncement of the Cabezas de San Juan at the beginning of 1820. Although the composer of the music is not exactly known (the lyrics are by Evaristo San Miguel, and were combined with different melodies), undoubtedly the music comes from Spain and not from Brazil, which did not become independent until two years later.
@@manuelmanzanero5057 well clearly it wasn’t originally Spanish as Brazilian independence just so happens to predate the second Spanish republic - I was simply pointing out the shared song

No, that would be a blue and white one.

We Brazilians must not let a day like this ever happen again, we must not stand an offence to the fatherland as such.
We are 9 countries by now, our cultures are many, but we share a Lusitanian heart, and we speak its language.
It makes me proud, to see all these people going to the streets and being patriotic around my city, but in 1822, we must not forget, this day was of betrayal.
May our future be bright, our path looks harsh, clouds are gathering, but once we ruled the seas, then we learned to fly, our current challenges will not stop us. 🟦⬜
my man... Portugal is our colony now.
F*** the colonizers and what they did to our natives and the slaves
@@jotascript03 Exactly, well put.
We were betrayed only by Portugal, who rejected the spirit of brotherhood that their own King established when colonialism was starting to be abandoned. September 7th is the culmination of a Portuguese betrayal, which must be repaired not by our own effort, but through theirs
@@jotascript03no matter how many paragraphs, how many half-digested regurgitations you manage to recite, nothing will justify the genocide of indigenous peoples and slavery. If the Portuguese were such a moral influence, then it makes no sense to say that their actions weren't wrong if they are the exact same actions undertaken by the "barbarians"
