After the Monarchy was overthrown, Brazil never again got prosperous and frequently experience chaos, high crime, corruption, and military dictatorships. Don Pedro II thought that not fighting back for his throne was the right thing to do, but I bet he will quickly change his mind if he see Brazil today.
