Put two fans side-by-side on the "top" blowing upwards. It will draw air through the fins and partly through the box.

heat rises so...put the fan at bottom angled at 45 degrees and it will help cool the fins as the heat comes off the fins

Even easier way to active cool a victron solar controller is find a fan that runs similar voltage to your panel when its open circuit, then wire the fan in parallel with the panel. The sunnier it gets the faster the fan goes, and it switches off at night. Literally only need a fan and a way to mount it. Can add a resistor to the fan in series if you're running high voltage panels.
Im not a fan of mechanical temp switches because if they fail, you get no cooling and might just think its not hot so the fan isnt running, when really its a failed temp switch. They can do hundreds of cycles per day in a use like this, and wear outfaster than you might think.

Hi, thanks for the amazing video. It's there any way you can demonstrate charging the power station from the Victron load while the mppt is also charging the batteries. Effectively a dual charging from solar to mppt and mppt to battery and power station - essentially doubling the capacity. Cheers.

Hi mate. That’s a great idea. I’m sure it can be done. Might look into doing a video of that at some time 🤙🏻

You could use a small heat exchanger coil with a small pump to pump the water 🤓

ha!...was thinking I was gunna ask how you going to connect that to the heatsink - not great to drill through a victron. wedge it in there with a chunk of steel/aluminium?
been using w1209 temp controllers for half a buck, attached to 12v 9w turbine type fan for quite a few buks - keeps ice cold under load.
Can't quite work out why they haven't added active cooling to these otherwise awesome units - mine run so hot without fans, almost too hot to touch.
great use of load ports btw.

Thanks for watching mate. That’s not a bad idea wedging it in with some metal. I might have a tinker with it this wknd. I agree those controllers get far too Jot for my liking 🥵

Isn’t DC power best suited to switch the negative side over the positive. And AC power is switched at the active side

Is it better to put a switch in the positive or negative line in a 12 volt circuit? Functionally it makes no difference. From the safety point of view you always switch (and fuse) the line that isn't connected to earth or the chassis - greater chance of being able to disconnect a short circuit

I just size the mppts bigger less loads runs cooler but hey 🤷‍♂️

If you use them correctly and to their full potential they don't run hot so all that BS isn't required

    • @Techboxreview

Could you explain to the viewers how to use them correctly? We would like to know? Because a lot of people say these things get hot.
