I love how even the watermelon smashing is done in so many different styles. Frank does it in a straight forward, formal way. Almost like an android or a serial killer from some movie. Tim smashing it is so much more savage and brutal, looking like a zombie or starving person who acts out of just immense hunger. And then Romesh is just pure destruction. Like he doesn't even care for eating it all that much.

For all the hard time Josh got, he showed a classy effort, wound up 3rd, and actually ate about 70% of what the two maniacs achieved.
I feel like every task is the contestant weighing the risks of actually trying to problem solve vs. going pure caveman.

This was the VERY FIRST task of the show. And it immediately and undeniably sold me and hooked me for good.

I gotta agree with Romesh a bit. He did pulverize the shit outta that melon but those looked like some watery pale watermelons. Like a liquidy soup with seeds.
It was definitely a more organic variety of watermelon as compared to a standard "seedless" or low seed count american watermelon, so i think they naturally had a more hollow/wet interior, while the genetically modified and specially bred melons most people buy or think of when watermelon is mentioned have a more solid core, like splitting a cork in half.
@@protojager It has nothing to do with organic or any nonsense, it's just bad way-overwatered melons, either because the season was way too rainy or because the farmer sells by the pound and has cheap water, so overwaters to bulk them up. Watermelon will soak up all the water you make available, even if the sugar production doesn't follow, up to bursting themselves.
Yeah, look at how hollow the melon Frank opens is 2:48. Although, watery melons are probably way easier to eat in a timely fashion than a standard seedless one.
Roisin diddling around for 59 seconds and then smashing her face into the watermelon at the literal last second is such an underrated moment from this task
Very similarly to how she later handled the boulder in ANOTHER task.

When it came to those last two, I am genuinely wondering how they managed to weigh that
I imagine they weighed the plastic and the watermelon beforehand and calculated the sum. After the task, they bunched up the plastic, together with any watermelon bits remaining (they'd need to first sweep any remains from the table onto the plastic), and compare its weight to the initial sum.
He says so right at the end.........
Its the lab.. the lab is covered in plastic..you just substract the table or excess vomit.. and weigh it again..

Taskmaster is a series that often values creativity and outside the box thinking, but I have to give it up for Romesh's hustle. He saw the task and took the straightest path towards it. No bullsh*t. Not in a long time have I seen a contest put enough effort in that they vomit trying to complete a challenge. Totally deserved the win.

It's that look Alex gives around 7:09 that really sells the humour here for me. That mix of terror and fascination.
Just imagine showing someone out of context the couple seconds of Romesh running into a plastic covered room to smash a melon on the ground.
Romesh's go at it is easily in my all time top 5 TM moments, but I forgot how funny Roisin's attempt is.

Surprised nobody realized the loophole here: the rules don't say that you have to eat the watermelon that was already in the lab. Just go out and buy/make some watermelon smoothies, then go in the lab and down them.

I once went to Hempfest in Seattle (It's exactly what it sounds like) i was so stoned by the end of the day. I headed towards the exit, and two feet before i got there, I heard a vendor yell "Half a watermelon, 50 Cents!" I sat down, and ate a half a full sized watermelon...when i got home, i promptly went to the bathroom and threw up a margarita
