  • A Detailed look at the new CVO Tri-Glide. Harley-Davidson applied their Ultra-Premium CVO treatment to their 3-wheeled vehicle for the first time this year. Offered in two colors and decked out in every accessory you can image, this balance-friendly touring machine has it all. Matt Laidlaw goes into the details on what's new and what's unique to the CVO specifically. Also, get a brief comparison between the CVO and the stripped down trike the Free Wheeler.

    One group of people that you left out of “who rides a trike” are lower limb amputees, I lost my left leg above the knee in 2011 at the age of 48. I purchased a used 2009 Tri-Glide later that same year. Been wishing for the CVO version ever since. I now own one of the black CVO Tri-Glides. I love it.

    I LOVE that Black CVO Triglide and probably would have traded my 2018 Ultra Glide Trike in on one. However dealers in my area had so much trouble trying to locate one we finally gave up.
    In the meantime I finally decided to get both my knees replaced at 71 years old !
    After my first knee was healed I could not stop thinking that I could ride a two wheeler again.
    So I rode a 2020 Fat Boy 114 special and it was all over …. I bought it and love getting back on two wheels. I kept my Trike for the long hauls and so I have the very best of both worlds !! THANKS for sharing your videos …. they are especially appreciated during the winter months!!

    I purchased my 2021 CVO Tri Glide on October 13, 2021. I was treated with respect and everyone at Laidlaw's is a true professional. It's to bad I live so far from LA otherwise I would visit more often. This youtube peace on the CVO made it easy for me to make up my mine on what I wanted. Thank you David, Matt and Nick.

    Having owned a 2014 Tri-Glide, it was time for a change. My Wife and I enjoyed it for the most part, but the heat from the engine, the stiff pull in of the clutch, especially in stop and go traffic was fatiguing after a long ride. Plus the noise going up a hill in third gear. With my Wife having bad arthritis in her spine, every bump we went over, jarred her back.
    We now have a pre-owned 2014 Can-Am Spyder RT Limited , with low kms. The ride is so much smoother, even with the stock suspension, no more stiff clutch pull in, no excessive heat or noise, plus rider and pillion heated grips standard equipment. Which I have always said should be standard equipment on the base model trike, for the price one pays in Canada. Cheers Matt and Thank You for sharing. 🙂 🏍 🇨🇦

      I put Legend Revo-A shocks on my 2017 TriGlide, HUGE difference in how you do/don't feel the bumps. All the places where I'd lift myself partially off the seat, I now float over. Wish I had done this when I first got the Trike although, waiting until the stock air shocks failed allowed me to use that money from the warrantee to upgrade at half the price.

    Wife has a 2019 Freewheeler and loves it. She rides two-up with me most days but for longer trips, touring, etc. she takes the trike. She can ride a two-wheeler competently and confidently, but we just found that it’s too much loading down a an H-D touring bike with gear and having her 5’ 5” frame handle all the weight. We can load the stuffing out of the Freewheeler and she (and I) can ride without worry. It’s been a great investment and as Matt said, it really is fun to ride.

    Something I learned when I took 3-wheel classes after buying my 2012 Tri Glide: Don't stagger lane positions with other riders but ride in the middle to slightly left of your lane, much as you would in a car. It's easy to forget about those rear fenders, especially if you're used to two-wheelers. I tore up a fender for that reason, which cost me enough that I never forgot again. Also, forget about lane splitting--it's not going to happen.

    • @kennoneya4671
      @kennoneya4671 Před 4 lety

      To stagger lane positions ride with the lead trikes front wheel on the left edge of the "dirty center" of the lane, next bike front wheel on the right edge of the "dirty center". This gives you just a hair more escape capability if something goes wrong ahead of you. It also all depends on how wide the lanes are. Old country roads are meant for one vehicle per lane only. (A three wheeled John Deer) Even if you're ride a two wheeler.

    • @John-of5sh
      @John-of5sh Před 2 lety +1

      Mr. Jensen, I had a 2011 Tri Glide and the very first day I had it I just missed by a very thin hair plowing into a parked car because I forgot just how wide the ass end is on a trike. Took probably 3-4 hours to stop shaking. Lessoned learned. I'm guessing those fenders are anything but cheap. I lost sight in my left eye due to cataract surgery a few years later and lost my depth perception also which is why I no longer have the trike.

    Last October I traded in my '18 Low Rider for a '19 Freewheeler, my 8th bike and 6th Harley. I was getting to the point where my balance wasn't what it used to be, was feeling uncomfortable, and wanted to make the move to 3 wheels before it was too late. It took me about 400 miles to be totally comfortable on it and I'm loving it. I like the more minimal look of the Freewheeler, there are no long trips in our future so I just didn't need a Tri Glide. That said, if I had the need for a Tri Glide and had the spare cash I'd be all over that white CVO. The 90 degree tire valve stems alone are worth the price of admission. :-) As always, great review Matt. Thanks much!

    When I purchased my 2020 Tri-Glide, I looked at the pros & cons of both Tri-Glide. What they had to offer as a standard package, to include anything I might add later on. I rode both and decided the best fit for me was the 2020 Tri-Glide Ultra.

Could ride a bike without legs even, if i didnt slide off. Some better some worse. Sat on a supermoto once. Interesting, all wide handlebar input, nothing through the legs. So. Retractable training legs if i really cant hold a bike and a couple minutes time to climb on... And yeah. That is a product that exists. For Harley and other bikes.

    Matt, I love your channel and watch all your videos. I love that you show the pros and the cons. I also love that you switch riders to show the difference between a tall person and someone who is shorter than you. I am not in the market for a trike, but this is a beautiful bike. For my taste I would put on a taller windshield and would remove the heel shifter. I am not a big fan of the look of the seat with that pad that looks added on. I also think it would be better with the mirrors mounted on the fairing like on the street glide. If I were looking for a trike I would not buy the CVO only because the price is just too high for my pockets, plus I would not use half of the technology on this bike and it would be stupid to pay for something I wouldn't use. I say if you like this and want one then by all means go out and get one. I wouldn't turn it down if someone gave it to me, I would ride the wheels off of it. Keep doing what you are doing.

    I’m only 24 and my gf is 23. We both have Harleys and ride together all the time. However, whenever we go two up I’m always the rider and she’s the passenger just because she isn’t comfortable riding with a passenger (yet). That being said, I already know she would be okay riding a trike with myself on the back just because she would be comfortable with it. That is the only reason why we would get one. That and the fact that we could do a thousand miles on this bike without feeling fatigued. Both great reasons for us.

    I've got the 2018 Tri Glide that I bought during a hurricane over the phone from five States away. The ride is less than premium (air). I've had 6 back surgeries. I had to give up my Road King after the third one. I wish, whoever had the camera was riding the other bike. It would have been more valuable. The ride on the bike the camera guy was riding was worse than my 2018. As to the engine and general trike comment, had Harley not powered these with the Milwaukee Eight, I wouldn't have a trike now. The twin cam sucks on these things! I'm looking at aftermarket suspension for my 2018 because if you have a bad back, suspension is everything. One other thing to remember, on two wheels you have one track. On a trike you have three tracks. Any one of which can ruin your ride because you feel all three. Every bump, every pot hole, every railroad track, etc. If the right offer for a trade up were made, I'd upgrade to this new CVO Trike. IF THE SUSPENSION IS BETTER! From this review I really can't tell. The camera was on the wrong bike!

She has back issues too, but the new CVO has a much better suspension, so we only felt one bad bump. I just got rid of my 2013 Heritage Classic and traded in my 2018 Tri Glide in and the upgrade is amazing. Take one for a ride, then you decide.

      The 14" Pro-Action shocks on the back with a KD Custom Products lift kit, plus a Progressive monotube on the front makes for a world of difference. Also run 22-24 psi in your rear tires, that helps a lot, too. The third thing is with the monotube up front, since you hit everything anyway, hit it with the front. It gets rid of that side-to-side motion when you hit something with one of the rears.

      They're a blast for sure, we love ours. Beware of the CVO, though, quite a few are having issues with the ride from those low-profile tires.

    Have read that the Trike CVO was the most requested CVO ever don't know if that is true. I ride a trike now (2014) think the CVO is a great upgrade however there are many things that are not important to me. For me to upgrade a new Tri Glide with what I want would be better price wise. However I would like to mention why can't the wheels be powder coated? They are by far the hardest thing to keep clean.

      @MattLaidlaw  Před 4 lety

      That’s interesting. I haven’t heard that.
      I don’t know about the wheels. I think the CVO has some type of nicer finish than the regular aluminum wheels.

    Great Video Matt, I wanted the CVO but here in Canada it is even more money you are talking almost 20,000.00 different so I elected to go with the Tri Glide Ultra and dress it up . Never ridden a trike always two wheeler so this should be interesting since it is 15 below zero here . Keep up the great videos I love you and John Maxwell. Cheers

      Heh Matt, I sent you a short note on the Tri-glide a while ago. Well I have now ridden my Tri-Glide for about six months now . ON a straight smooth road the ride is fantastic h owever on a twisty older road with lots of bumps I find that the bike performs really rough. If I changed the shocks to OHLINs do you think that will smooth out the ride better than the stock shocks. I find after a long ride on twisty's my lower back is really sore. I look forward to your thoughts. Thks

    I have always thought these were dumb, but now I want to ride one. I’ve sold Can-Am Spyders before which predicates two wheels in front and one in the rear is better, but it’s clearly that they’re just two very different riding experiences, not one better or worse. Not sure that I would ever want to own either, but right now I’d probably choose the Trike!

    Harley is missing a target audience with females and Tri-Glides. My wife never rode 2-wheels, but was tired of 2-up riding and wanted her own. We picked up a 2015 Tri-Glide garage queen. Trained her gradually so she can get her confidence up, took the weekend trike class and she was on her way. To me, if you've ridden 4-wheeler's then the Tri-Glide ride and steer similar. Nice not having to put your feet down.

    It's a "Splash" Coincidence for me, before three Day I started information me the HD Tri Glides and today I found your Top Video to this Thema 👍😀 ...
    I ever had think Trikes are only for not realy Bikers, but how longer I think over it, I think it was a good Alternative for older Biker, when the Power in the Legs is going downer, ornamentenal Females they are have not so many Mussel Power or shorter Legs and want ride a heavyer Machine and ( with a little technical Changes ) for handycaped Person ( maby Weelchair Driver ) ...
    But then ... I think a little wider 🤔 ...
    When the Tri Glide can pull a Style compatible, self brake and owen build Tailer, than it be what for a married Couple on one Machine with more Equipment for a longer ( Camping- ) Journey / Vacation 😉 too
    My Question to you Matt ...
    Can the Tri Glide pull a braked Trailer ???

    Personally the cost for the extra bling is not a deal closer for me. I suppose if you are hard core and need all that extra "stuff" then you are correct that the price is worth it. The only appealing options for me since I live in the North Midwest would be the heated grips and seat. You can inexpensively add the LED lighting upgrades easy enough.

    Wild and Three!!! The 2020 TriGlide Ultra was my first experience with “Linked brakes” and it took some getting used to. I like it, but wasn’t used to it. My wife has MS and the leaning of the two wheels causes her vertigo, the trike fixes that and we still have our face in the wind!! And yes, it is an upper body work out with the twisty roads... well made video!! The CVO is outside my price point, but it’s cool.

Harley is making in my opinion the best bikes they ever made and the Milwaukee 8 is killer engine. Polaris has their media hawks posting crap all over the place that the M8 sucks, etc., HD needs a campaign to fight back and make that dam coast glide

      Paul Manson I hope so, even if my wallet doesn’t. I was told I can only go to stage 2 on my Freewheeler as 3/4 kits won’t fit. That was bad enough. I wanted the stage 3 for torque. That’s the one thing that annoys me. The Freewheeler has a lack of options available.

    It’s a great bike and your video is great for explaining what the trike is all about. I have question. Do you or does anyone find themselves freewheeling the bike? You’re trying to search for the right gearing and you have the clutch lever pulled in, whereby you’re freewheeling the rear end? I don’t know if that’s what is happening.
