Bryant Reeves: The Vancouver Grizzlies Big Man who SHAQUILLE O’NEAL COULDN’T FIGURE OUT | FPP

- His career only lasted 6 years and it was filled with losing, add that to playing for a franchise that relocated near the end of his time there, and it’s very easy for Bryant “Big Country” Reeves to be forgotten. He had a dominant career at Oklahoma State playing for Eddie Sutton where he would even lead them to the Final Four as a senior in 1995. He was then drafted to the expansion Vancouver Grizzlies as the first face of the franchise. He was never a superstar player, but he was on the rise and had improved every year during his first three years in the NBA with the expansion Vancouver Grizzlies. But when the NBA lockout occurred in 1999 he came back out of shape and this led to chronic as a result of his weight which forced him out of the league at 28 years old. When he was at his best, he was a skilled offensive center in the golden era of the big man. He could post you up for a jump hook or turn around, but also step out 15 feet and drain the midrange shot. A big knock on his game was his lack of defense, especially since he had that country strength that could have made him so dominant. But unfortunately, he quickly became an afterthought with the emergence of Shareef-Abdur Rahim and Mike Bibby before the team moved to Memphis and Reeves’ back injuries forced him to retire. He disappeared from the league after that and has only recently been heard from, but he’s happy and doing well and one thing you can never take away from him is that he was the face of the Vancouver Grizzlies and beloved by a city when he first arrived.

Those Vancouver jerseys are a Top 5 jersey of all time.
No doubt!
Yeah I wish Vancouver kept the Grizzlies name.
tax issues possibly@@SiGUYE
Ugly as hell.
Big Country is such a cool nickname.
You hear that name in the south almost everyday 😂😂
I agree.
cause he was big and he was country
I give him props. Dont forget how physical the nba was back then. He held his own.
I loved him. He was absolutely dominant at OSU.
Abused everyone, even Duncan to an extent
Heard Paul Pierce expected to be drafted by Vancouver. Pierce, Abdur-Rahim and in-shape Reeves would have been good.
Bibby is projected to be the no.1 pick in 1998, but the clippers grabbed olowokandi instead. Who wouldn’t have taken the projected no.1 pick if he falls down to no.2? Plus, it’s not like that bibby is not good in Vancouver although his prime was in Sacramento. Also, Paul pierce, who was projected to go no.2, fell because of some off the field and personality issues which forces teams not to risk on him
Lamar Odom and Ron Artest also did draft workouts in 1999 for the Grizzlies (Odom was hoping the Grizzlies would select him)
I was 12 or 13 when he was doing this and he was definitely the story of the tournament his senior year. Much like Wally Szczerbiak in his senior year. I wish players still played that long in college
They do once in a blue moon. I miss that too
Word. Big country was cold in college
11:50 Brian Winters with that Dumb and Dumber bowl cut 😂
He was Ledit!
This was well deserved!! Enjoyed watching this player!!
This makes me want an Oliver Miller video, another meme player with a surprisingly decent career despite eating himself out of the league
Lol
Still got his Vancouver jersey :) Love this channel, so much great videos that gives me nostalgic memories about my favorite players from my childhood years. Thanks and keep it up @ForgottenPlayerProfiles
Appreciate the support
Austin Reeves Dad was a beast
LOL They're not related. Austin's last name is spelled 'Reaves.'
cap@@Doknot-tb9ey
Surgery back then was not "the beginning of the end", it was the end
He was decent, he wasn't trash.
He was better than decent he just played on really bad teams and started getting hurt, when he played he was really good
@@whitechocalte532Thats a stretch, he was a good starter
I remember he put up a few huge scoring nights here and there in the late 90s and would remind you of his potential. I think injuries and playing under such low expectations kinda sabotaged his career.
He was LEGIT💪🏻🏀
there were a couple of other players that gained weight during the lockout too
Shawn Kemp, Vin Baker
the original Jokvic LOL
one of my fav players back then
I like your even-handed approach.
i always liked big country.. ever since that win over camby and umass.. i remember that game.... props to the big fella..
Boom! Another one I brought up in past vids. Thanks for making this one my man!
Do a video on Michael Douglass Williams, he holdsThe NBAs most consecutive Free Throws. This record was set in the 1990s.
11:45 When your known as Anthony "Uh ha ugh ha...40" Peeler from the Byron Scott interview on MJ lmfao
As a lakers fan, Vancouver Grizz had the best logo & jerseys 🔥
I remember this guy in the NBA,too bad Vancouver didn't get more time to shine in Canada! If Steve Francis stayed when he got drafted I think they would have got more fan base and with shreef as well grizzlies in Vancouver would have been pretty damn good for years, can't say they would have drafted bibby, Mike Miller,Shane Battier and gasol though. Gotta say, those green jerseys were really cool looking
Those Eddie Sutton OSU teams were fun. Desmond Mason, Big Country...
Thank you 😊
Please do a video on Purvis Short!! James Worthy said on his episode of the KNUCKLEHEADS PODCAST the Purvis was a person that gave him the business on the court.
Heavy.
Peace to the 907, I saw some great games in Anchorage at The Alaska Shootout.
Keep them coming can we get Abdul Rahim and Cliff Robertson
thanks now can you do Shareef Abdur Rahim
Bryant Reeves and Kevin Duckworth would average 20 ppg in today's weak NBA
Glazing
Duckworth was trash
@@williamwright8250 He was an All-Star in a very good team
🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢
Duckworth was not a bum.
Can you do salim stoudamire
"Reeves would play well in today's NBA"
Jokic before Jokic
@@ammarnapata2193"I wouldn't go that far"
@@ammarnapata2193don’t do drugs kids
Not on defense
@@Teddy42O I agree 100% because Reeves couldn't pass like Jokic
He put the grizzlies ona map and was a bucket, he was a star from day 1
I was felt like this guy was basically Enes Kanter
This dude was a beast in college
Oakley, Jason Kidd, Xavier McDaniel, Clyde Drexeler, Robert Parrish, any chance any of these players are on your list to cover?
Please do Antonio McDyess
Why?? The 2nd pick in the draft and was overpaid & always injured.
The End.
Your videos remind me of cult tennis. Best of luck on growing your channel!
One of the few guys who could match Shaq physically
Are you serious? He was big but he wasnt even all that athletic. Nor, was he even all that big. This is such a random comment.
I'm sure he would have had a better career if it wasn't for the lockout season, and its crazy that his diet was red meat, potatoes, and cheeseburgers.
And milkshakes 🤣🤣
@@Teddy42O Oh my god! LOL
We need a Robert Horry Forgotten video. Dude won 7 championships with Houston, LA, and San Antonio.
Robert Horry isn’t forgotten
@@atribecalledlen3567 How many people do you see talking about Horry? NOBODY.
He didn't win 💩. Robert Horry was a role player
@@mongoslade277 7 CHAMPIONSHIPS isn't winning in your eyes? 🤔
@@Skillz_251 Houston, the Lakers & San Antonio would've won 5 of those without him. If he didn't purposely knock Steve Nash in the scorers table Phoenix would've won the 2007 championship. The 2002 conference finals was fixed. The Lakers were gonna win that championship anyway. In the 1994 season Houston traded Horry to Detroit for Sean Elliott. The trade was voided bc Elliott failed his physical. If Houston had Sean Elliott they still would've won the 1994 championship. No Michael Jordan
Grizzlies started making mistakes when they drafted Daniels in 97, they did so good with Reeves & Abdur-Rahim. Could've gotten Ron Mercer, that would have been awesome. Bc in 98 they got Bibby. Like seriously, you draft good in your first 4 drafts, can make you a contender. Look at OKC.
I would say the biggest mistake is wasting a pick on Steve Francis who didn’t want to play for Vancouver instead of drafting Lamar odom who was willing to. The 2000 draft is just unlucky
Vancouver was given restrictions when they came in the league the restrictions were not being allowed to pick number 1 in the draft if they won the nba lottery and using their salary cap for the first three years
4:13 is he slobbering all over dude?!?😂
Jokic of the 90s
Blue edwards???
Do Jordan Crawford
Austins big bro
Big Country turned into Big County in the NBA.
Cooked Shaq so hard
I guess his disk would have been better for a few years too without the weight gain : / I would like to seen him in a winning team.
He reminds me (looks wise) Of Jokic.
Shaq knows
Oh man. I’m from Vancouver. The media just wanted to run his ass out of town. They shit on the GM for giving him $68m contract. There was potential with him, Reef and Bibby. Btw f Memphis.
Shii. You ain't know Big County got his hairstyle from the Canadians
A very poor man's version of Jokic
What Jokic SHOULD be but is too talented to be him
How does a guy (Camby) star in college get ONLY 3pts in a game?
To bad Francis was a cry baby, and Rahim was just over overrated from playing on a bad team. Sad Vancouver never really got a chance with any decent prospects.
Rahim wasn't overrated
A lot of teams could say that
@@Teddy42Ohe’s very overrated
Sheriff Abdur Rahim is the most under rated player in NBA history. You noobs saying otherwise are full of stuff. He was a top 10 powerforward in the early 2000's in a league full of 4's like Rasheed, Webber, Duncan, Garnett, Nowitzki, Jermaine, and even Ben Wallace.
Hmmm! Abdul Rahim was nice
If only Nikola Jokic could travel back in time and be his mentor…
Big country lack of coaching
o7
He's no Jokić or Embiid
shaq lying again, bryant reeves didn't have an ugly jumper, shaq did
Who cares?
