.....you only need one ratcheting mechanism to apply even pressure to both.
When fishing- you have a fish pulling on one end and a human pulling on the other end, correct?
@@forreelzfishing sure, but to test two knots/connections on the same line there only needs to be one source of tension. One ratcheting mechanism would add force in smaller even increments, for testing purposes this is preferred. Also, a fish on a line and a rod/reel on the other end do not put the same tension from both ends at the same time as your ratcheting setup theoretically does. It doesn't matter which end puts strain on the line, the sum of both sources or one source are the same as far as the knots are concerned.
@@TradeWinds66 correct
@@TradeWinds66 you make a good point 📍 do you have an engineering back ground??
@@forreelzfishing I took physics when I was in school, but now I have a home improvement business....so, maybe a light amateur engineering background?
It’s about time someone is testing knots for us to see. A scale and indication of line strength would be helpful too. Good job on the video.
Thanks 👍🏼
I’m using your videos to learn new knots for fishing! Shine on you crazy diamond.
That is awesome!
Love how good of a way this shows what kind of knot would do better in a snag situation. Brilliant 👍
Good meaning not breaking?
You're not applying tensile strength. You're applying TENSION.
That’s what I meant to say 😊
@@forreelzfishing I can see the overlapping loop in that uni. Nice try idgit.
My uni knot brings a tree out it’s roots before I lose anything 😂
Uni knot is wack
Have you ever tried an improved clinch? Much faster to tie in my opinion and it is known for being a more versatile knot in more different sizes of line since it technically isn't a knot, it's a clinch
😂😂😂😂
What size line do you use ➰?

All these internet scientists trying to correct you while sitting around in comment sections. I appreciate you for doing it in a scientific way!
Thanks 😊
did the line break or the knot fail? Looks like the line snapped.
If the line failed the knot would still be on the swivel. So the knot failed 👍🏼
Well ya didn't show the swivel without the knot on it. So it looks like just the line broke.
@@georgehutcheson9679 I agree, looks like to me to line just broke.
@@georgehutcheson9679it's literally in the video swivel with only one knot, pay just a lil more attention before commenting. Thanks
@@zachclark9119fr wtf are they talking about 😂
Continuity. If the uni knot is on the left to start with, it should remain on the left in the end.
It is. Just different camera angles. I shoot the video with up to 3 videos but only used two in this video.
As a carp fisherman who goes from mono to a braid leader and catches 60lb fish that take off like a shot. The issue with a uni knot to swivel is there is only one wrap at the swivel if you double wrap it(wonder knot) they are the best know you can tie with braid with.
I recommend to everyone I talk to, double through the eye of the hook with all knots. Even a simple clinch kn°t if that’s a person choice for a knot. 👍🏼
@@forreelzfishing it the secret to a Palomar knot. It just that no one thinks about the fact it double in the eyelet.

Thanks for this video. Can you repeat it several times and confirm its always improved clinch the winner please? Also show the broken line to see where it fails. Thanks
Ya the thing is I only get 60 seconds on a short video so I may have to put a link to show everything after 60 seconds.
Yes, very interesting. I am the one that suggested testing those not in that fashion. However, I said double Uni, knot and very important to be tied correctly. All my own testing was done with 50 pound monofilament which we used for sturgeon fishing in the Columbia river.
I caught a 100 pound sturgeon on the 20 pound test!!! Fish on,!!!!
Thanks for sharing!
The knot I always tie, the improved clinch. I've been using it my whole life and I can tie it in the dark.
How many twist you like to do?🔃
@@forreelzfishing depends on the line.
Damn that is impressive we do have a clear winner here it's this channel thumbs up 😊
Wow thanks man- you don’t even know how much I appreciate it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try Palomar, against clinch knot.
I’ve tried that many times on my tiktok channel. It’s not even close. The Palomar knot wins against all other knots 9.999 % of the time 👍🏼
@@forreelzfishing do you mean 99.9?
@@forreelzfishingGood to know Grandpa and me been right my whole life
@@TheVanillaGorilla913 yep! You and grand pa knew the real deal 👍🏼
Just about any knot with two strands through the eye if the hook will be stronger than a knot with only one.
I’d like to see a close up at the time of break in super slow motion. Maybe the line just snapped? Shouldn’t there be a piece of the knot, or the actual broken piece lying around somewhere? This really shows nothing except that something broke.
The knot explodes and flys away!
Uneven tension nice stuff man😂
👍🏼
Caught 150 lb fish on uni knot. Caught 125 lb fish on a polymar knot. Caught 100 lb fish on clinch knot. I could care less you wins, as long as I catch the fish. I've had knots fail because they weren't moistened enough. Please show whole video.
I’m going to start posting long form videos to show everything but for some reason they don’t get as many views as the “ shorts” but with the shorts I only get on minute. I wish CZcams was more like TikTok where you get up to ten minutes in vertical form videos
You should put a pressure guage in the middle to see how much it withstood
Yes, I would probably have to make a new board as this one is to short. This is the “ knut buster 3000 test board. Maybe soon I will do a 4000 series 👍🏼
Man, this video had me hooked.
lol hooked huh?
Love, love, love the background music....shine on!!!
☀️ ya man 👍🏼
Love the video 📹 please make more like this with different knots 🪢!!!!!!! For fishing 🎣
Will do!!
I use an improved clinch on 90% of my baits because i know its strong and i can do pretty quickly. The uni is my second most used.
So you probably use monofilaments fishing line?
@@forreelzfishing Mostly on my spinners yeah but not on my casters. On those I use 20Lb braid to 10lb fluorocarbon but I still use improved clinch on the fluorocarbon to bait knot. Obviously that's not what I use to tie the leader though.
@@forreelzfishingI also have a bigger Croix rod that I use the same braid to fluorocarbon set up.
@@ThePeanut999 nice man- sounds perfect 👍🏼
Why not use braid as any polymer based line will stretch at different rates and have weak points in various different places along it's length
Some guys like to have the stretch as mono can stretch up your 25% 👍🏼
What an awesome way to show different knots wow! Very cool thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked it!
Same test using braid? No contest. I agree this is a consideration for terminal tackle for bottom fishing between swivel and hook, but if you’re a braid fisherman, this is not the knot for you to tie to your terminal tackle. I use the Uni and tie it tight leaving a loop for extra action on paddle tails. It is way easier to tie in the dark, and the strength difference isn’t worth me switching and then losing a fish to a “what if.”
Most of my fishing I do all year is bottom for fluke. My rig is unconventional I guess. I tie a hook and weight directly to my main line/ no swivel/ no leader. On the bottom I tie a weight with a surgeon knot. Come up 12” with a dropper loop for my hook. Use minnows as bait. My wife and I out fish everyone in the area. It’s probably to simple. Lol
I have been replaying the the moment of the snap and I can see clearly that the blue bead goes flying so how is it that the red bead is the one that is broken? You showed a different result for that video
Orange bead went flying because the uni knot ( orange ) broke releasing the orange bead. Green bead stayed on line because ( improved clinch knot) did not break.
you texhnically dont need two ratchets, unleaa you were planning on ratcheting super fast, like, 50-100 mph fast. the only way to make the tension uneven in between both sides is to pull so fast that you accelerate ahead of the inertia of the standing knot
I use to use only one and everybody said I needed two on my TikTok channel lol
HUH?
@@ericwright6672 huh? What?
Everyone on you tictok was wrong. This is principles of technology 101.
This dude is a Beast.

Damnz- thanks ☺️
Couple of things, you only need one ratchet, not two and you should do this test under a little bit of water, knots are stronger wet versus dry. Cool content though!
Thanks ☺️
Whenever I tie the clinch, I put a simple knot on the line end first - so it never slips through.
Like a half hitch knot or something?
Palomar knot = G.O.A.T.
Even better than the uni?
I fish for bluefin in socal and use double uni or trilene. It just depends on mood... neither have failed me.
Ever try the sd jam knot? If so- what do you think?
Great idea! Very interesting!! Tell me more!!!!!!
I have never had a uni knot fail on me when having a fish on. Especially not when i fish for pike and use 1mm fluorocarbon leader.
Have you ever had a Palomar knot fail?
@@forreelzfishing never used it. I use uni and trilene knot. The only knot i have had failing is the rapala knot.
@@danielostman5805 do you use braided fishing line or monofilament?
Same here, uni had never failed me both fresh water and deep sea fishing.
@@thomasmcsherry6122 how many times do you put the line through the eye of the fishing hook? Once or twice? For your uni
I’ve been saying this for years. Clinch not is faster and stronger
And if you goo thru the eye of the fishing hook twice it’s even better
Knots need to be easy to tie. I once did a lot of night bass fishing, and i could actually retie the uniknot with no artificial light. Which helped a lot in maintaining good night vision for shoreline visibility. Also, one test is not conclisive, because something could tied improperly. You should do multiple tests.
Good tip!
The Palomar knot is still the best fishing knot it's the fastest everything in the knot is double-lined it's just a superior knot in my opinion
I agree 👍🏼
Good to know when in need to pull my boat out of the water 😂😂😂
😂
I'd like to see you get rid of a ratchet and replace it with a strain gauge (weight scale).
Good idea 👍🏼
Edited. I questioned this result.
After the line breaks, pause the video, When the line broke it looked to me that the knot or whatever exited the field of view to the left in the direction of the uni knot. You can see a broken end of line with nothing on it on the right of the screen where the improved clinch knot was tied. There is no swivel or knot present on the screen. You can not see the uni but you can see the end of the line to the right of the screen minus a knot or swivel. Where is the swivel and knot if it is not connected on the end of the line where the improved clinch knot was?
I paused the video and took a screen shot. When I blew up the picture you can clearly see on the right of the screen two ends of the line with nothing attached. The bitter end of the line where it was attached to the ratchet spool and the broken end of the line where the improved clinch knot was tied.
My guess is the reason this person posted this was to get views and comments which would add to the algorithm raising the ability for this video to be monetized. I believe there are many CZcamsrs who do this. Put out false information to build up comments and views. The more discussion the video creates the more money the creator earns.
If you did all that, pausing and enlarging the photos then you seen the orange fishing bead fly( off) the fishing line. The orange bead was on the side of the uni knot and since the uni knot broke the orange bead flew off. The green bead stayed on the line the entire time. Yea I want views but I’m not a psychopath. 👍🏼
@@forreelzfishing I can not see clearly enough on my iPad what flew off. It appeared to me that everything flew left. Could not see anything left but can see what looks like 2 line ends on the right. If you would have left the video footage in showing the knot attached on the right side in the video I would not have even questioned what I was or was not seeing. As it is the video shows now you see it and now you don’t. Without the unbroken unedited footage everything is open to being suspect. Not saying that you are being untruthful but better editing would remove any doubt 👍🏼
@@fishhunt9874 I thought I did show the end results but remember I only get 1 minute on CZcams shorts ⏳
Problem is that an improved clinch only works with monofilament. Try that with Flouricarbon and it will slip through itself. Uni or double Uni all the way!
Yeah clinch knots and fluorocarbon are not friends. It will either slip or cut through itself. 👍
I’ve tested the clinch and improved clinch with braid. Did 5,7,9 twist- it stop slipping at 9 twist
Improved clinch and the Trilene knot are best for monofilament and copolymer fishing lines. Palomer knot for braid. Fluorocarbon lines are just inefficient doesn't really matter what knot for fluorocarbon because I simply dont use it.
@father1st894 you must not be using the right fluorocarbon
@@brownbouy3043 Ive tried various types from companies such as Seaguar, Sunline, even the Tatsu. Pretty much the same results from each in varying forms. What I have found is high memory. Also I have found that fluorocarbon does indeed stretch just not as much as monofilament. The difference is monofilament retracts after stretching while fluorocarbon does not. This makes fluorocarbon weaker over a period of time. Especially when using leader to braid. Monofilament as well as copolymer lines are far more manageable and to me have better knot strength. I have fished in ultra clear lakes many times where my partner used fluorocarbon while I used monofilament and there was no affect on the amount of fish he caught vs. what I caught , so I definitely do not buy into the invisibility of fluorocarbon.
Its seems to me that the tag line on the M-Clinch is slightly longer than that of the Uni. Adds for extra slippage
None of the knots slipped. The one knot failed/ broke 👍🏼
Now try the double clinch vs improved clinch please
How do you do a double clinch. Thats sounds like a modification to the regular or improved clinch knot 🪢 ❓
How about a Palomar knot? That became my go-to 15 years ago
Great knot- stick with it. Although the Palomar and trilene knots are nearly equal.
I'd like to see you test the Trilene knot.
I did- check my videos 👍🏼
Great .usic choice
Thanks ☺️
I thought that the blue bead broke off but the end result shows otherwise
👍🏼
Improved clinch won’t even hold my lures on😂
Do you use Braid or mono?
I use the Palomar knot. How does it hold up in knot wars? I heard its a good knot and its easy to tie..
Palomar wins 99.999 of the battles
very beautiful music from pink floyds makes the experiment more interesting.
Many thanks!
Can you add some sort of double hooked scale to each end? to ensure you so that each knot is under equal pressure? Like a newton force meter scale?
Great idea 💡 please tell me more! 👂

How can you know about Newtons, and not know about Tension forces?
It literally wouldn’t matter. They can tie it to a solid fixture on one end and pull from the other. Tension will be constant throughout. No point in doing the dual ratchet straps either
Love this very cool comparison
Thanks 😊
This is quality content
Wow! Thanks so much!!!!! 🤝
The whole time, I was telling myself this is dumb but unable to turn away because I now had to see which knot would win. 😂
Haha 👍🏼
Yeah, but when you're hook catches something on the bottom, you wouldn't want it to be this strong.
We have to be able to navigate the structure 👍🏼
Polymer knot for the win
Great knot 🪢
In a hurry i use a uni 2 uni to connect line to line, i use a improved clinch to connect to hooks, lures, or swivels.
Double uni for leader? What kind of leader do you use? What fish are you targeting?
@@forreelzfishing red drum, black drum. As long as I'm not targeting something big it has seemed to work for me. If I'm after bigger fish it's going to be different tactics
Shine on you crazy diamond... interesting background music.
You diggin it?
Not surprising. Been tying the modified clinch for over 30 years. Never had a break at the knot
How do you modify it?
@forreelzfishing after you do your wraps and run the line thru the loop, you then run you line thru the hoop it made while running it thru the 1st loop. If that makes sense
@@NeilGraham.I.M.F yes that’s what I did here. It’s an improved clinch knot- google it to see 👍🏼
You should tie the tag ends down . The line twist is stopping a straight pull
How?
@@forreelzfishing leave them Longer and put anchor point on the device
Improved clinch knot or the Trilene knot are the best for monofilament and copolymer fishing lines. The Palomer knot is best for braided lines. I dont use fluorocarbon lines because fluorocarbon line is inferior to other lines. I fish bass tournaments and for years pro fisherman have glorified fluorocarbon lines. Its all about money.
Thanks for the tips!
Im curious: don't Both ends need to be ratcheted at the same exact time to get the CORRECT desired outcome? I'm talking EXACT same time.
Are you serious 😅? Does a tow strap or solid shaft pulled in a linear direction break differently if only pulled from one end.
Doesn’t matter if pulled from one end, both ends or unevenly from both ends. Same amount of force is applied across the entire length.
That’s what I’m doing- you can see it if you look closely
@@MF-hd1tq 👍🏼
Im just learning fishing at the moment and theres so many knots and everyone claims each one is the best. Is there any real difference
There is a little difference. Like you wouldn’t use a clinch knot with braided fishing line cause braid is slippery and the fishing line will slip out of the knot.
I learned that knot at a kid's derby almost 50 years ago and I still use it .
Which one ?
The improved clinch knot . Funny because I listen to one of the local fish radio shows in socal and a popular long range skipper mentioned that he also learned the same knot at a kid's derby . He's around my age and he said that it's still his go to knot , just because he's comfortable with it .
Ever try a Tralene knot? I think i may have spelled it wrong but it is definitely a strong knot. My Dad taught me how to tie it when i was very young and never knew the name of it until a few year's ago. I grew up on a small Island and we were Watermen. Used knots all day long. I know so many knots yet not their names lol.
Yes I tried the “ trilene” knot. I also have a ton of videos like this on my TikTok channel ( same name)
I use a trilene knot on the hook, and then a Alberto knot on the line. It’s so strong
I never break off, even in thick Lilly pads
Good choices 👍🏼
Beads added for proyectile improving
Projectile?
Ha ha .....im knot watching again.
Why knot?
Uni knot put giant snapper in the boat improved clinch does not. Uni knot is also better for keeping braid slipping on a swivel
No uni knots please 🙏🏼
What a cool ass idea to have two ratcheting gears attached to the bored with each knot tied to a swivel in the middle being controlled and pressure applied by a ratcheting gear of a ratchet strap.😮. it would be cool if you could incorporate a scale on each side of the swivel with the knots tied to the pulling hook) bar incorporated into the scale where you can see at what pound of pressure it's at when it breaks!! I wonder which one is stronger, a TRILENE KNOT or an IMPROVED CLINCH? I PERSONALLY TIE THE IMPROVED CLINCH BUT I HAVE THREE TAG ENDS!! It doesn't matter if it's 4 lb or 6 lb or 25 lb test fluorocarbon, THAT knot is the absolute best knot to tie for fluorocarbon, I don't think it's called the improved clinch because it has three tag ends but the idea of the knot is the same and the harder you pull it the tighter it gets!! This was a really cool demonstration and a really really good idea to apply pressure using the ratcheting gear of a ratchet strap! 👍👍👍💪✌️
Thanks so much. You have a lot of great ideas and I’m going to see if I can apply them with my limited brain 🧠 power lol thanks so much for the great comment 💥
To be fair to the knots tho, they don't have this amount of force applied to them usually.
The fishing line and the fishing knots have a “ fail or break” point. This is 50 lbs mono line so it takes alot of tensile strength to achieve that.
Shine one you crazy diamond!
You diggin it?
Awesome idea!! I love the knots personally Lol the day my grandpa died was the day my fishing career ended, still enjoy these tho 👍
So you’re not doing anymore fishing ever?
try improved uni or the double line uni , not the old one ;)
I tested several knots .If you don’t see it here check out our TikTok account. Same name as this 👍🏼
So the line broke. And where's your load cell to show the tension data? Now do it with a load cell, and do 5 each control with just a line, no knots, then 5 each with the knots in one direction, and 5 each with the knots in the other direction. Use a new spool for each test. Log all data with exactly where the failure occurred and the measurement of the force it took at failure. Also show the tying of each knot.
Say what?
We need super slow motion of the knot breaking to prove it wasn't the line that broke.
Always breaks in the knot.
I did that before- I will start doing it again but not shore how slow my iPhone can go.
The knot was gone, it disintegrated!
That's what I use.....
Which one ?
Test it against the Palomar & c what the outcome will be!
Test which one against Palomar?
You're uni knot!
Uni knot is for braided line
What about mono?
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Ya- you digging it?
Is improved the same as a double clinch? How does this clinch compare to the trilene knot?
Three levels of clinch knot from weak to strong
1- clinch knot
2-improved clinch knot
3- trilene knot
Does this help ?
@forreelzfishing yup! I dont fish much and was raised on the improved clinch. I'll have to try out the trilene next time I go out. Thanks much!
