    You know again, here I guess I skipped the details of this tutorial because I figured hey I can skate backwards and do most of the time when I am actually at the rink but then when when more advanced skills required backwards skating correctly I learned that the way that I was skating backwards is not correct at least not if one wants to excel in learning advanced moves in artistic or figure skating. You are so correct too, its hard to break bad habits. (sigh) but I am going back to the very beginning and doing it right and get the building blocks down solid ! Hey if nothing else ya gotta appreciate my honesty. lol

    • @appelusa
      @appelusa  Před 3 lety +1

      Back to basics oh no haha. In the end there’s no right or wrong way to skate backwards if you’re focusing on being a recreational skater, but you’re right for figure skating foundation I would recommend honing on the basics 👍🏻😊🙏🏻

    For some reason I can do bubbles just fine, but can’t figure out how to do the backwards push.

    • @appelusa
      @appelusa  Před 3 lety

      Hey Lauren! Have you tried bubble forward and backward? Biggest thing that comes to mind is where weight is. For backwards should be balls of the feet knees bend. The push foot turns in and digs down into the ground to crate friction- propelling you backwards. The standing foot (rolling foot under you) can have weight a little more center if you have trouble staying towards ball of foot. Hope that helps. I have live zoom classes and private zoom lessons available!

    @dianefinamore2285 Před 3 lety +3

    What do you mean by not collapsing the arch?

    • @appelusa
      @appelusa  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you for asking! The arch under your foot to the inside is what I’m referring to. Most people push their arch down with the pressure of standing on it, or some people are what is called “flat footed” where their arch is flat to the ground where it should be raised. There are arch supporters at grocery stores and orthotics for those who need support for alignment issues - knee problems that become associated. So in skating that can become a problem for balance if you arch drops. Does that make sense? I refer to it for certain edges or turns.

    • @dianefinamore2285
      @dianefinamore2285 Před 3 lety

      @@appelusa thank you for your detailed response. I have an extremely high arch & used to wear insoles from Dr Scholl in my boot. Since I have removed them I can feel different points in my boot now. So I think this explanation does make a lot of sense to me. Again thank you love your CZcams videos sooo helpful. Can you do one on two foot spins on balls of feet.. having trouble doing the heel toe spin

  • @dianefinamore2285
    @dianefinamore2285 Před 3 lety

    Hi what do you mean don’t collapse you arch as I have very high arch

    • @appelusa
      @appelusa  Před 3 lety +2

      Just that you should try to keep space between the boot and your arch, so not meeting the arch of your foot press down onto the boot.

    • @dianefinamore2285
      @dianefinamore2285 Před 3 lety

      @@appelusa thank you so is there situations when you can collapse the arch in your boot, hoping I’m not over thinking it, such as possibly cornering or any other situations

    • @appelusa
      @appelusa  Před 3 lety

      @@dianefinamore2285 yes any time you do inside edges you would be pressing down to the inside of your foot. It’s mostly the “flat footed” people who have to think about lifting their arches or adding support because they tend to cave in which also they caves their knees in.

    • @appelusa
      @appelusa  Před 3 lety +1

      @@dianefinamore2285 you might be over thinking it but I always not it in my videos when it’s important for that skill. Check out the slalom video if you haven’t yet.
