- The end is in sight as sadly the last remaining Family Video rental stores is closing it's doors. The digital world has been and continues to be the new media standard. Sadly gone like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video.

So sad. I was hoping they would stick around for awhile. I hate losing physical media like we have slowly been doing these past years.
I mean did you ever use them in the last few years?
@@sevroaubarca5209 they never had any in my area. I was hoping they would open one, alas they will never happen
yea
Target/Walmart/Amazon
Don't worry, pal, the Retro Decade Revival Project is gonna turn the tables around for good.
Salute to family video. They had a great run, and pretty out lived it's own industry. If not for COVID, it could have gone even longer. Took a global pandemic to stop the hustle. Respect.

wow this place is like a time capsule! it's like a paradox seeing new movies in a store like this. RIP!
Streaming has admittedly made things much easier, but there was something so special about going into a video store and searching the shelves for movies to rent. My local store was called Family Video but it was standalone with no association to this chain. I remember my last visit there before their closure was even announced about ten years ago; I was surprised they were still in business, but I had a feeling they wouldn't be around for long. Sure enough, there's a Subway now where it used to be. :(
RIP Family Video!!!!!
I work at Marco’s Pizza, which shares a lot of buildings with Family Video and I swear our store feels so empty without all the trailers playing next door and the kids running around to find a new movie to rent for the week
Yea having a Marcos inside Family Video was super convenient. We did not have them in my area but they were in Indiana.
I love near one I was crying it was closing down and I'm 13
I remember all those movie nights we used to have. We would get out of the house on a summer night and head to the video store. We would go crazy with all the movies surrounding us...and the candy mom would let us buy. Great memory and thank you for sharing 😊
The good old days..born in 1983 and this makes me cry.
This video makes me feel strangely emotional.. I’ve personally never been to family video but its like experiencing nostalgia for something I never experienced... thanks for uploading this! id love to see more vids similar to this and the target one
Excellent choice with the music!!
Heartbreaking 😭
What a great Video! I going to miss this place!
I'm saving this video to show to my kids when I have some when I'm older. I miss this place. This was my childhood
I use to work at family video during transition class. I miss this place so much that I didn’t even know it was close down. With the rise of streaming service at seem that I was lucky to experience this place.
They turned them into dollar generals
man, seeing this now just make me want to cry. it’s weird to think that this little location meant so much to me as a small kid. seeing it gone now just hurts, so much. I miss getting a gumball from the machine or dragging my fingers against those odd grainy walls and begging my mom to let me rent a wii game haha. I don’t want to let go but damn, It hurts man
Had so many memories at Family Video and went there a lot as a child, so seeing them shut down everywhere was very sad.
This is too bad. Last week I noticed the one closest to me is closing in Grand Rapids Mi. I have not used a brick and mortar video store in a number of years but when my kids were little we would go in and they each could get a free movie and a movie candy. Was always a weekend tradition
Our lives will Never Be The Same! ☹️😩😭😢
My and my dad lived near a family video. So many memories, movies and videogames rented and overpriced snacks bought. Sad to see them go
yep 😢
I had one just down the road when I moved to my new apartment a couple of years back. I always thought "I should visit them at some point" whenever I drove by. Now I will never have the opportunity. If I had started watching my (now favorite) TV show Stranger Things years ago I would have immediately gone into the store when seeing it because of its inclusion in the show. But I just started watching the series and now I am sad. COVID destroyed the last great movie rental chain along with many other things. It sickens me that my future children will never get the opportunity to walk through these classic stores (specifically Blockbuster for me) like I had the chance to. :(
I remember going to Blockbuster as a kid. On occasion my parents would let me rent out a movie or video game. My family didn't go movie theaters a whole lot so this was how we saw new movies when they come out. I like how you can just sit on your couch and rent or buy a movie straight from your tv set but there's always something to be missed with these old video rental stores.
I went to this place a lot to rent a movie or game, especially with games I was curious on playing but didn't know if I wanted to buy it or not. It's sad knowing this place is gone now, especially with Family Video being the only DVD rental store left in my area. I do hope something like Family Video opens up, though this is very unlikely now that we're in the digital age
So sad. I miss it so much. 😞
As much as I love streaming services, as a kid of the 90s I do miss renting movies and games from the local Dillons and other places; blockbuster was kind of the nail in the coffin for them all though so to speak. Think about it, not all movies and shows are on stream you could rent what you can't view there and if they do not got it they can order it in. However, that is if we can get more to stay.
I’ll never forget the local video store. It was a 5 mins walk away from my house and on warm summer nights you could def meet someone you know there renting a movie too. There was also an ice cream parlor on the way there so it was really the perfect evening walk. After it closed in 2015 all the other businesses that tried that location lasted just a few months. Don’t get me wrong netflix and apple tv etc is so amazing and efficient but there was still a charm to it. I think it’s kinda nice to reminisce my childhood and be nostalgic for a bit haha.
This online digital content is pure garbage. So sick of it since years ago.I dont need someone putting a fucking screen on my face like im blind.I want to go out and live my life.
Fun fact, if my brain isn’t wrong, this is in Sylvania, Ohio where I live. It was eventually closed. A year later, it was turned into a swim school, Goldfish Swim School.
Man I miss this place 😭😭
this was my blockbuster, with my zoomer self. gone for more than a year but still missed
THAT TIMECOP 🔥🔥🔥🔥
You can still check out movies at your local libraries and since its a library you don't have to pay anything. My library actually has a decent selection of newer movies.
Each generation loses quite a few things. This was one of those
I remember renting Super Mario Maker 3DS here. Too bad it was gone before I even became a teen.
My first real job was a Movie Mart store near Cleveland, Ohio. Thats when I fell in love these types of stores. I going to miss browsing through the aisles for something to watch. Thank you.
I didnt even get to go one last time i drove past it closed 😥
Rip Family video i remember riding my bike down to you and renting a game I'd always try to keep a day extra
Awe man Im sorry to hear this. I have not been in MI in 3 years but the summers I was in Muskegon Id go to Family Video. They had a lot of cheap old movies like 50 cents to rent for a few days. I remember watching Jupiter Ascending that i got from Family Video in Muskegon.
I ❤ the music in this video
So sad seeing it closed down
@Nate The Great I subed because we need more of this type of cultural documentaries, I think this is your thing.
I miss mine.
I spent a good amount of coin at the Maumee Family Video I lived a mile away for almost the entire time they were open. They almost always had the new release movies and a good old movie for a dollar. Glad to see people archive as much as possible so it's not forgotten!
my local family video became a yoga place with among us font
I think the last thing I ever rented from a Family Video was either Batman: Arkham City for the PS3 or Uncharted 3 all the way back in 2012.
Going to the Video Store was an adventure and a life experience.
It was a reason for us to GET OUT OF THE HOUSE
Instead being at home almost all the time
Its a fucking tragedy that they are closing down!!
Also never knew they had an adult section 😳
Weirdly I think that people don't watch as many movies now as they used to despite streaming. It used to be that you go in, rent some movie you don't know much about, and you WILL watch that movie because you paid like $5 to rent it. Now most people spend like an hour scrolling though the menu and just end up watching some cat video on youtube.
I remember going to this place all the time. There were some things there you couldn't find anywhere else. Well, that's what I always told myself as a kid, at least. It was fun while it lasted though. Farewell, Family Video.
Definitely safe to say the brick & mortar video rental store is 100% dead now. At least you can still buy Blurays and DVDs, but how much longer will that last? Sadly physical media is hanging by the skin of its teeth these days.
There’s still one of these where I live but we never went to them. Our favorite was blockbuster which I miss.
The one in my home town is now a dollar general
I remember buying a ps4 game before they shut down
Family Video would still be here if it wasn't for the Stupid Pandemic! They should of kept 1 open like Blockbuster because they lasted so long! R.I.P. Family Video!
Hey that’s the family video in muscatine where I’m from
Wish they could bring back the dvd rental stores back to city’s around the world even if we have to wear masks in store due 2 C-19 rules even on-line streaming is the future there still is a lot of people who miss it and Units around the world not being used and jobs for the dvd rental market not there for many people it’s really know becoming a memory for those who love to rent a dvd for the week / weekend from the 80’s and 90’s and chat to the movies loves in the dvd rental stores around the world. 📀
Family video so many memeories
its sad our family video closed a while ago also what family video is that
Ayo someone has the gumball machine with the gumballs?!?
Last time I rented a video was in April 2014 at Video Esy in Australia, it was Dispicable Me 2
I’ve never been there, but I wish I could have...
I didn't know there was still a video rental store still open. 😲😲😲
Some locations have (or will be) converting to Dollar General...
The family video near me was just recently shut down and replaced with a family dollar what a downgrade. I always wanted to visit there to be reminded of the day's going out to blockbuster but I ufortunately that won't be possible😓
LMFAO somebody bought a whole gumball machine.
Family video from stranger things 4
FAMILY VIDEO last longer than HOLLYWOOD VIDEO AND BLOCKBUSTER we do however have on every lasts BLOCKBUSTER in Oregon
Mega media exchange is still alive though
May I use some of your footage for a video I am working on?
Sure can just credit your sources.
@@-NateTheGreat sure will! Thank you!!!
Dope
Which location is this?
Sylvania Ohio
I got a video of the closing too
Bet you can get blu-ray for a good deal
Never been to a Family Video, only Blockbuster but it looks like the type of place I would have loved to go 🥲
