Hey guys, it's Charlotte Dobre here, and in today's video, we're going to talk about people who are in denial. It's human nature to avoid facing difficult truths, but sometimes people take denial to a whole new level.
In this video, we'll explore some of the most shocking and entertaining examples of people who are in denial. From the person who insists they're not addicted to drugs, despite all evidence to the contrary, to the individual who refuses to accept that their partner is cheating on them, we'll see how people can create their own alternate realities to avoid facing the truth.
We'll also take a look at the psychology of denial, why people do it, and how it can negatively impact their lives and the lives of those around them. It's a fascinating and complex topic, and we'll explore it from all angles.
So, get ready to dive into the world of denial and prepare to be amazed. And as always, don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more videos like this one. Thanks for watching!

Hi, I'm Charlotte Dobre. I'm an actor, reactor, singer and sometimes (not really) comedian. On this channel I do reactions, commentary and occasionally I make a joke or two. I love poking fun at social media, weddings, entitled people, tiktok and OF COURSE petty people. I upload daily, usually 7 days a week, unless life gets crazy or I get lazy. Come hang out, it's a good time.

Responding to your girlfriend telling you she loves you with "even if I loved you, I'd never say it" is not a little thing.... That's like a titanic sized red flag with blaring fog horns
That's surprisingly endearing to a disturbing number of young people. Ready To Glare's video yesterday featured college students proudly noting their affection for specific toxic behaviors.
It's good to be old.
Yeah, that's a "oh ok so you're just a 🍆.... good to know.
Byeeeeeeee 👋
I once copped even if you were marriage material which your not I wouldn't waste my money on you getting you a ring your just not worth it
When your young you don’t notice these red flags. I had an ex who told me to stop saying i love you so much because it diluted the feeling, I thought that was dumb but didn’t argue about it.
@@pablodelsegundo9502 the things I learned as a teen.... I was so far down I actually watched red pill videos and MADE NOTES to be appealing to men. Now I know I was appealing to toxic, abusive, stinky assholes but it took a long time to realise and learn. But hey mid twenties for starting is not the worst! Better late than never.
My own personal short denial story: my biological mother refuses to believe and accept that i chose to go no contact with her and go live with my dad, and to this day basically tells everyone that he kidnapped me
Edit: thank you for all the support. I’m doing much better mentally now and am a much happier person!
You did what was best for you. Let her tell stupid stories. Be happy
Omg that is CRAYCRAY
My mom swears my husband and I are on drugs because she saw his prescriptions from the VA in my purse. I forgot they were in there from dinner the night before and told her to grab my wallet. She's always been a lot. She called my mother in law(who is an RN) and told her. She explained what they were for (blood pressure and another for migraines) and my mom still wouldn't hear it. I've gone no contact for almost 2 years and my life is so much more peaceful. She's for sure floating down De Nile.
Yiiiiikes. I’m so sorry babes. My real father is a homacidal maniac. And he refuses to take his schizophrenia medication. Being a child of divorce is hard enough. Without having to deal with an unwell parent. I’m rooting for ya bestie. Stay strong, make sure you keep your heart and mind open, and love freely. Much love! 🫶🏼
edit: I’m not saying you should talk to your parent. In any way. I haven’t talked to my father in over 18 years. Keep those boundaries. Because boundaries keep us safe.
The amount of support and love that is shown by Charlotte's viewers is phenomenal! Thank everyone for just being awesome humans and showing the love!
No but the sister being that COMFORTABLE with her brother is actually the sweetest thing. Like she really trusts him 😍
That girl on 12:44 is literally every reader shipping their favorite fictional couples. LITERALLY
As a man, if yours tells you you *aren't* beautiful, sexy, etc...leave him. I be telling my woman every day all day how gorgeous and sexy she is. Because she is. Period. Men don't hide our feelings from who we actually like, love, or are in-love with.
I can agree with letting your woman know she's absolutely gorgeous but celebrating your anniversary EVERY SINGLE MONTH is a bit too much. She lost me on that.
It really is that simple, ladies. Yet most of us always fall in love with a fantasy when he is clearly uninterested. And if he is with a woman he doesn't show any real verbal and physical affection toward her HE NEEDS TO F*CKING LEAVE.
Oh I know!
When she said "shouldn't I be all those things?“
And I'm like"YEEEEES! BECAUSE YOU ARE!!“
and he just compared her to other girls he's more attracted to....😔
Oh boy BYE!!!
@@Shellygrrl2573 why tho? Mine only stopped because I told him we couldn't afford it. Its how I knew I found the one. But we still do half years
Your woman is a lucky lady! Thank you for being a kind and loving man. I got super lucky and I’ve been with my high school sweetheart for 17 years, he’s the same way! He’s the greatest thing that ever happened to me and I’m sure your lady feels the same way about you!
I love how the woman that toasted the plates was like. “Oh! Guess this is what we are doing”, and follows along. Such a fun friend.
I like cheersing plates A LOT as I have instigated this many times 😂
That's what we do in my house. We cheers our food all the time. Weird, I know.
I was crying when she said "girl take the potatoes" because I was confused about what she was trying to do to lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂 so funny lmao 😂😂😂😂 Travis get it get it....NFL BOTH BROTHERS PLAY SO GOOD. THEIR MOM IS SO LUCKY TO BE A FOOTBALK MOM.. SO GLAD MY BOYS ARE I HOPE I AM THAT FOOTBALL MOM LIKE HERE..
I love that she did that so much 😂 It's def something I would do haha
Fun fact: narcissist copy the person their with in the beginning of the relationship and reflect their traits back to them so the person thinks they have a lot in common with the narcissist but really they are just seeing themselves. People think the person changed but really they were never the person you thought they were but on the flip side you are that person so you don't have to worry that your missing out.
But a narcissist would also think they were the better part of each encounter 😅
That wheezy laugh when the woman went "I thought you was toasting the plate!" just made my whole year holy hell. I love this for them!
I can confidently affirm that it becomes more acceptable, even endearing, to be weird the older you get. It coincides with the diminishing fucks you have to give as you age.
Ain’t it the truth…I know from experience lol.
Exactly!
I'm about to turn 41 and I keep wondering if I'm old enough yet to start calling everyone "sweetie"? 😂
@@lizajane2971 I am 55 and do it all the time. Then apologize. Lol
@Charlotte Dobre please pin this. Top comment imo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏼
The brother and sister video was adorable the fact that she can go to him and tell him about her day and he actually listen(albeit teasing) was so cute(funny) but cute, my brother and I were like this, and I’m here for the brotherly and sister love. his face at the end was so my brothers lol 😂 😂😂😂
IT takes a LOT of energy for a man to listen to this type of female energy. The emotional strength to maintain a caring look until the convo is over is sometimes a precursor to a nap
I just came back from two weeks in France and everyone was wonderful about speaking English with me. I did start pretty much every interaction with an apologetic “Je ne parle pas francais, vous parlez anglais?” and that seemed to do the trick. Once they heard me mangling their beautiful language, they were quite happy to switch to English. 😄
That is my experience too!
Same! If people see that you are trying, they’re usually very happy to help. I’m so jealous of Europeans who are multilingual. If I had kids, I’d move to Europe with them so they could be educated.
I lived in France for 2 years.. started out in an awful nite and thought everyone was mean. Then someone pulled me aside and explained, “imagine that someone walked up to you in the US and started talking to you in Spanish not even attempting English and it just kept happening“ then I understood why everyone was kind of annoyed lol
And I learned conversational French over time
I’ve had similar moments in France. My “TarzanFrench” … “me go now” seemed to work whenever I made the effort ~
the sister that thinks people are in love with her is a total hoot! I like her energy! she's a riot:
"after 3.2 seconds.."
"I know he knows my name!"
💀
She has her own youtube. I see her on the shorts describing her love life sometimes. Very hyper and cute, I have never seen her brother but the "you're in love" comment was so on brand lol
@@LadyKris3345 I think if I had to choose, her attitude is better than having low self esteem. at least she is excited about her life.
good for her. plenty of time later in life to get ground down by routine or whatever.
now, if she was my sister, it might get old, but I think it is just as likely that it would be a constant source of entertainment
she is a riot! I approve.
She is so pretty too
The Taylor Swift convo KILLED ME! Dude was sooooooo injured by an hilarious story. 🤣 Also, the purse thing cracked me right up. Hehehe!
I think this would be a great opportunity for men to realize how they talk about womens interests and idols ALL THE TIME, but sadly they won`t. They will only file this under "this crazy woman didn`t know who Travis Kelcey was".
I seriously had never heard the name Travis Kelcey until Taylor started dating him.
I used to hate it when teachers would say “oh you’re being bullied it means they’ve got a crush on you it means they like you.” and I’m just like “no I’m being mentally emotionally and physically bullied her help me.” like saying that doesn’t give the students a boost of confidence it’s teaching them that them being hurt is love when it’s not
Incompetent and ill informed teachers 😒
At a certain age (up until about 4 or 7), that can mean that they like the other one (girls do it as much as boys at that age), but after that (usually up 'til puberty sets in) it's often the "girl hating phase" for boys, but girls don't seem to go through that, where they often go through what the sister goes through, thinking any attention from a boy means he's madly in love with them.
@@jacklow9611 It doesn’t matter what it "can" possibly mean, we as adults should not be teaching children to accept being treated like this by other kids regardless of the intent. And we should be teaching the child whonis doing the bully that it is not an acceptable way to express their feelings, regardless od the intent behind them. Also, your assessment of girl thinking all boys are in love with them at that age is absolutely ridiculous, untrue, and toxic. That sister in the video was absolutely satire.
Exactly. This shit makes me angry my worst bully he hit me for two years not even as a little kid when we were 14-16. And if they're seriously suggesting he assaulted me "coz he liked me" they're normalising domestic abuse.
@@NatashaWarden ooof - the gaslighting is real and dangerous. Sorry that happened to you 😔
As a French follower, I have to say : French People don't hate Québécois at all 😂. I do agree we jockingly make fun of their accent from time to time (same goes for Belgians) but we really like them ! They are usually really funny to hang around with 😊
Came down here looking for this! First time I heard about the french not liking french canadians! Honestly, having been around a bit, it's always a minority that will fuel the supposed animosity, and most people are kind and welcoming if you come in with the right attitude! (Also, let's not forget cultural differences that can skew our perception of the other's words or actions).
I just came back from Paris this weekend and experienced the total opposite as a Montrealer :( would not go back
@@KikiLovesAshes I'm really sad to hear that 😔 and I'm sorry about your experience. To be fair, a lot of French people don't like the way people act in Paris either, people are often rude there (as in a lot of big cities, people are stressed and always in a rush...). Anyway, I hope you'll experience better hosting if you choose to visit France again 🫶.
Yup, French too, never heard about us hating québécois. We LOVE them !
I had a step sister with the most surreal confidence. She was BEAU-TI-FUL for real and knew it. But also delulu.
She honestly thought walking down the street was so annoying with all the cars honking at her. It was a busy street in the capital city, and a long queue of cars... honking at each other probably.
She was saying "it's so annoying with all the cars honking just because I'm so good looking". Even the guys that we (she) spoke to at that moment laughed. She was completely honest 😅
The way I screamed when that woman clinked the plate and the other one said “girl, take the potatoes!” 😂😂😂
😂😂 that one was hilarious.
Same!!!
My husband and I have been together for so long he constantly does things like that without saying a word and I just know what he means. 99% of the time I do but occasionally we get that kind of awkward interaction and it’s amazingly hilarious.
My husband was just telling me how the guys at FedEx were complaining about the game; how the camera would look at Taylor every time he’d do anything in the game. They were VERY annoyed by this. 😂 But this is exactly how girls who don’t watch football think 🤔
What?? If you're watching a game you're watching it for the game not for some player's "gf" who is just doing her round of boy toy to song/album pipeline
The correlation you're making makes zero sense especially with the generalization you're making cause I'm sure a lot of girls who don't watch football don't think like that at all 💀
I'm not a football person. However,if I turn on the game, that's what I want to watch. I don't give a crap who is attending. If you absolutely hate to show Swift or whoever else do it during halftime. That is an insult to the teams.
Most people that have dated superstars in major league sports. Their gameplay gets worse when they are with them. So I don’t think it’s going to help his career. I think it’s going to hurt his career. I hope Taylors finds the love of her life though
@@thomasjoseph5876 that’s not the sad thing, that’s the best part.
@LoudLilDucky Considering Kelce's age and the possible likelihood of regression, either this year or next, there will be uneducated people saying it is because of her. He just turned 34, and while this is not "old," it technically is an older age for productive years in the NFL.
The "i thought you was toasting the plates" will never NOT be funny😂
The toasting plates one got to me lol. I really need clear verbal communication, but even then some things will still completely go over my head. I wouldn't have understood that she was offering me something off her plate either unless she actually said it. Something similar happened to me around some work colleagues years ago. A co-worker held her sandwich out to me and I could not figure out why, so I helpfully stated, "That's a sandwich." and she turned away...She later nicely explained that she was trying to offer me a bite of it.

Deep southern girl here- I met a French Canadian family once and they are nice and polite AF. Talked to me for like an hr about just random stuff. Guess they were throughly enjoying their trip to the US. They were checking in late at the hotel I worked at and no one else was due in. Super kind during their stay. I honestly randomly think of them and have thought why others can’t be that nice like even if it’s fake just general politeness in public.
Ladies Please, please, please don't use that "hack" for not getting your purse stolen! What you're actually doing is giving someone who grabs that purse complete control of your body and you cannot get out of it! They could literally use that and drag you away.. your life and safety is far more valuable than any purse.
Never mind all that, how are you gonna access the purse if ya gotta struggle to put it on crossbody and then single shoulder? 😉
That was literally the first thing I thought: “girl, you ‘bout to be dragged away!” 😂😂😂
@@davidguidry657 🤣
Even if you don't get dragged away, you're likely to be injured, either in a fall or by the purse chain/strap itself. Or the thief will get so frustrated that they'll punch you in the face. Not great options.
@@gloriaalex11 I dunno; some people need a good punch in the face. 😉 Unfortunately they don’t usually carry this type of purse.
I used to know an extremely delulu person. When I was about 13 in school, this guy kept bullying me and wouldn't leave me alone. He also kept touching my arms, so I let the intrusive thoughts win, and bit him hard enough to draw blood with all of my teeth. He then spent the next couple of months picking the scabs off over and over again, until he had a series of thick scars in the shape of my full bite around his arm. Then he showed me that and told me what he had done to get that effect as though he thought I should be impressed. That was when I realised he wasn't actually trying to bully me, he was trying to browbeat me into going out with him, and thought that making my bite into a permanent mark on his body meant that I was stuck with him. Needless to say, I did a fantastic impression of the Flash, and ran the heck away from the crazy guy. 😅
Tfffff, what is with people like that??
Boys will be boys ryt?😂
When i was in 9th grade, there was this dude who tried so hard to keep up the bad boy image. I once saw him use a piece of glass to hurt himself in class and he was looking around to see if anyone saw him being so good with the pain. I literally rolled my eyes cuz self harming is no joke!!!
That is terrifying.

Not quite denial, but in terms of phrases I've learned from Charlotte like "delulu," my wife and I (who I got to watch these videos, as well!) rescued a calico kitten who is so sweet but also *maniacal* at times. Her name's Lucy, so now we call her our "little DeLulu"
Didn’t you know all calico and Torties are crazy? I’ve had only both types for over 30 years and they’re all F-ing nuts! Love them to bits but those kitties are weird, including my current kitty, a long haired dilute Tortie. Weird isn’t even a strong enough word for my darling Floozie! Named because she’ll go for any man she can sit on! And that’s weird too! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦

In regards to the French thing... My friend went to Paris for her honeymoon. From the way she described it, the girl wasn't wrong, but definitely a bit overkill. My friend said all you have to do is be sure to greet the shopkeepers when you walk in, and make an effort to speak French. You don't have to be anywhere near fluent. Your French can be absolutely awful. Just as long as you make an honest effort, they don't mind. They're just happy you tried.
French here, it's a thing some foreigners do, they come in; barely look at you and go find a place.
It's minimum respect here to say hello. People think we're impolite, but we actually have stricter rules and just by not greeting you're the one starting with an attitude (to us), and as we don't have client boot-licking culture here you'll get the exact treatment you give.
We do the same thing to french customers btw, them not greeting is sending the message : you're sh*t. And it verifies.
@tdelioncourt1268 trop d'accord. I live in another country, and it bothers me when people don't respond to a greeting.
This isn’t true, I’m à Montréaler and arrived back from Paris Saturday… the rudeness I experienced compared to nothing else on this earth.
Lucky friend, did not have the same experience - even though I went 4 times, speak french (although not great) and am a textbook overly polite people pleaser 😄 But living in a another European capital I can sympathize with being fed up with tourists. Must be THE WORST in Paris.
Also, French people in general have been lovely to me. Just not necessarily in Paris.
Yeah she’s definitely wrong about that. I used to game with a big group of people and a decent amount of them were French, only a few of them spoke English, but none of the Americas knew anything aside from English and maybe some Spanish. It was a game that was very team oriented & I made it a point to teach myself some French so we would be able to communicate & coordinate in the game. They were the leaders of a mega tribe in the game and they kind of adopted my little group of friends because they liked how I played & put in an effort to communicate with them
I take with me that healthy sibling banter. I mean if your sister is this eager to tell her brother so enthusiastically about her day it’s a win! No just in her phone it wanting to engage in actual conversation in this day and age. Good! 👍🏼
Please guys don’t do the bag one if you are going out and about the cities. If a bag thief wants your bag and they either can’t get it or the strap doesn’t break you will end up being dragged down the street. It happens all the while here (in the UK) people try to hold on to their bags and end up with serious injuries . Check what is in your bag if you can’t bear to lose it don’t put it in it. Let them have the bag it’s never worth it , an elderly lady died last year as her injuries were so bad …be careful out there

Adorable interaction between brother and sister.❤❤
I have 3 brothers. They wouldn't give 2 shits what I had to say, but they would also try to fight me and the guy at the same time HAHHHAHAHAHAHH
Word I have 2 boys 12 years apart in age so any common ground between them is priceless to me. Im not a huge video game fan so of course the main passion they share is for (you guessed it!) video games….and Pokémon!!! So I’m grateful my oldest is 24 now bc I see how many packages coming in from Amazon of these stupid Pokémon cards and I’m thinking “Well at least it’s not on my tab and hopefully he will have enough soon to build and live in his own house….of cards…” 😂😂😂
I asked my french friend what his favourite accent was in the world and he said...french Canadian. So they do like it haha
Also I told him that doesn't counnnnt
The “extra sauce “ story made me laugh, because of this simple reason. When
me and my fiancé were first dating we went to a certain corn dog establishment. It was close to closing I finished my lemonade and I tell my girl,” I wonder if they give refills”. She says “I doubt it”, so I go up to the counter and ask the young lady at the counter “ do you do refills? “ she smiles and says “ actually we don’t , but for you just this once”. Now I’m not delulu at all about it. I know she was just being nice, but to this day my girl tells that story and teases me by saying how she didn’t get a free refill. Or how that girl liked what she saw lol Yep I have to live with that story lol

Right?? I'm the ginger that is jealous of HER ginger. Gorgeous red instead of boring strawberry blonde, and not a damn freckle in sight, where I am f*cking COVERED in them. Also, I am short and squat. I'd hate her if I didn't love her.
@@hbailie9115 my entire life, I've wanted to be a ginger and have freckles. I'm 45 and I still feel that way!!! Both of my dad's sisters and his brother are all gingers.

OMG the lady throwing wine on her face! She was just so into the moment she thought of that scene in Flashdance and went with it!!! 😂
When the girl confessed she bit a guy at a bar , it reminded me of something I did .
We were at a church potluck , this guy kept tickling me and wouldn’t stop . I told him to stop several times but he wouldn’t listen . So I bit him , I drew blood ! He never messed with me again 😂
Apparently when I was 8 and on a trip with my family and some friends I had a situation. A man was talking to me and because he had been drinking spit was flying out of his mouth at me and so I spit back. He ran to my dad and started complaining. I'm shocked I did that. I don't remember getting in any trouble during that trip either.
Sometimes uncomfortable situations call for drastic solutions. Glad it worked out for you. No one has the right to touch you without your permission. No means no.

@LaurenTheorist I'm sorry but I laughed so hard at this 😂 I want to see the look on his face when you spit back

It's not true! As a french canadian, I've met a lot of english speakers that just won't even bother TRYING speaking french because they are insecure... We are always happy when someone is trying it means they care :)
Same in France. We're so happy when we hear a few French words with some cute foreign accent.
I've had about 50/50 on positive interactions with French natives when trying to use my elementary level french, but always had really fun interactions with French Canadians! I'm in the US but work in a French owned global company so I get to chat with people all over all the time. Our Montreal office was always at odds with everyone in our US office, because the US reps are trained to be super extroverted, in your face chatty, and the Montreal crew were very to the point. But, I LOVE dry humor, and in my experience, the French (Canadian or otherwise) get their humor straight from the Sahara. We just started sassing each other over time and built a really good relationship so I became the unofficial mediator to handle any Montreal projects. 😂 I miss that crew so much!! Also, my French is still garbage but I know some good swears!
Sometimes it’s funny though. Y’all English speakers pronounce all the letters in the words. As a perfectly bilingual French Canadian, yall pronounce every single letter. French is filled with useless letters and rules with exceptions, just try and we’ll be happy. Also french people from France think french Canadians are cute and weird because we speak OLD french. Like the french they spoke in the 18th century. But Europeans call kids testicles... so they can shove it.
@@DangerHobinsulting my friends is how they know I love them, also swearing in French is so much more elevated then English swearing. It just hits different. I will swear in French while speaking English and around ontariens. And then teach them how good a Tabarnack can feel.
@@Laure__LineI'm Dutch and honestly no one here likes French people, since they are so rude. Same goes for the Belgians who speak French... And then you have the Dutch speaking Belgians, who also speak French and are extremely friendly...🤷♀️

In my experience french people are very nice when you tell them IN FRENCH that you don't speak french haha my brother lives in Montpellier and this happens every time I visit him. They just want you to be polite and say "Good morning/day!" as soon as you enter a place, "thank you", "please" and "Good bye!"
The couple in the 1st video are one of my favs! Her dirty pick-up lines that she says to him are hilarious and so are his reactions lol I recently started using them on my husband to get his reaction and he’s been left speechless a couple times haha!!
When Charlotte asked to raise your hand if you didn’t understand the water bill clip…I actually did like I was in 2nd grade! Then laughed at myself!! 🤦🏻♀️😂

i knew a girl in hs who was CONVINCED every boy had the super hots for her... not only did she think they did, but she'd tell me stories about them leaving things in her locker or making out with her under the bleachers. of course, if i asked any of them about it, they'd be EXTREMELY confused. i still felt super bad for her though and continued to be friends with her despite the fact that she stole my clothes, wore them to school, and swore up and down that she'd just bought them that previous weekend. we stopped being friends when she told the school admin that the shoes i'd gotten at the beginning of the school year (black with hot pink, zebra striped laces, REALLY cool at the time) were hers and that I'D STOLEN THEM FROM HER. thankfully they'd known about her habit of lying so it didn't take more than a couple words for them to believe me.

Things my ex did and I stayed:
Pulled a gun out of nowhere and pressed the barrel to my thigh
He giggled and asked, "Do you trust me?" I panicked and begged him to stop, but he pulled the trigger. The gun was unloaded, but it didn't matter. That memory haunts me.
That breaks gun safety rule #1. What a creep.
@@lotstodo RIGHT? I was a member of the NRA back in 1976. It was a very different organization back then. I took a gun safety class at my high school that lasted an entire semester. We never handled real guns, but we had lessons on proper usage using dummy guns. We also watched scary safety videos about what can happen if someone acts like a fool.
#1 rule that was repeated every class: Treat👏 EVERY 👏GUN 👏as if it👏 IS👏 LOADED👏!
That NRA would have never advocated open carry and especially wouldn't have promoted using guns as fashion statements. I quit my membership to NRA in the 1980s when they changed their focus from safety to sales and politics.

Having a really rough time right now and the girl "cheersing" the plate made me laugh way too hard!
This is my personal experience with staying with someone for far too long. During the 18 years of marriage my spouse thought it was ok to tell me that he was with me to help/ fix me. That he married me me to “help” turn me into the person I “should be.” Silly me, I thought we got married because we loved each other. He made a typed out list concerning the changes I needed to make. Change hair colour and style, the way I dress, who my friends could be, that he thought we should have an “open” marriage, etc. When he told me I laughed too loud that was when I left.
yeah, I dated a girl who whatever I did said things like "this is great, but what would make it perfect would be if you...." over and over. I realized that she didn't actually want me, she wanted some other guy who was kinda like me, but even better, so I broke up and married someone who liked me as is a while later.
best decision I ever made. your mileage may vary.
Prayers For Everyone Thank You Lord We Love You So So Much And Can Never Thank You Enough For Everything Thank You In Jesus Christ Holy Name AMEN

Maybe I hit Paris on a good week, but my French is POOR and if I just put in a little effort even though it sucked (instead of assuming they spoke English) every person I encountered was actually incredibly kind and understanding.
My fear of speaking French is that I'll speak it so badly that they'll look at me and say "you have actually made me hate my own language! "

The key to get French people to be nice to you actually is incredibly simple. You say bonjour to everyone and you wait for them to respond bonjour before you continue speaking. This includes entering any establishment or bus (yes, you have to say bonjour to the bus driver!)
You can't say excusez-moi or any other opening that might be polite in your country/language. They will be offended and respond to you in a very frosty manner. You gotta respect the ritual: "Bonjour!" "Bonjour!"

Take it from a Frenchie, the way to our heart is this : we are the Japanese people of Europe, so just behave like you would towards Japanese people.
Being polite in France and Japan is not about showing a big smile, it is about saying the right polite words in the right circumstances. When you know it, it's very easy.
1) Say "bonjour" before any interaction of any kind with anyone (buying a croissant, hopping on a bus, entering an elevator, asking a question on the street...).
2) Try to say "merci" (thank you) for extra bonus points.
3) Try to speak in a low voice, because we are all quiet people who don't enjoy loud conversations.
Then you will see our faces light up every time we meet you. =)
Wish the French would take this advice when visiting other Europeans countries as they are some of the loudest, rude, and generally obnoxious tourists there are.
Hi, a random Japanese here. I went on a solo trip in Paris last year, with only a French few phrases under my belt, but most people, especially the younger generation, were super kind. I really wished I knew more French so I could have proper conversations with people.
Maybe people were nice because of my Japanese-ness seeping through? 😂

Don't worry as a 45 year old French who lived both in the countryside and in Paris for a long time, I can assure you I have NEVER heard one bad thing about French-Canadians. Do some people make fun of the accent and expressions? Yes but they are jokes, never mean. We see Canadians as very chill, nice and polite people, and I've never heard other wise from anyone I've met. I only heard about this supposed "hatred" recently and always from people from other countries, my guess is the french bashing from America is spreading false stereotypes and is reaching a wider audience.

I think there is a lot of friendly, affectionate teasing in French culture (both European and North American), and that doesn't translate well into other languages like English, especially when you account for tone and sarcasm. As a French Canadian, I can guarantee that most of the instances where non-french speakers thought they were being made fun of, they were actually being teased.😂We may be proud of our culture, but we don't hate other cultures! 💙
