  • My battery cables nearly corroded away. So I replaced them with brand new OEM Ford ones since my car is past the warranty period.

    For future reference for anyone that will see this, lead acid battery sulfation usually occurs when the battery is being undercharged. This can be from a bad alternator, too much load on the battery or just not driving it long enough. Eventually it will kill your battery, and if you’re unlucky, probably some sensitive modules inside the vehicle as well (the auto TCM is usually the first to throw a fit if voltage drops too low).
    Also, always disconnect the negative terminal first👌🏻

      Could a low charge battery affect also the fan motor relay where by the fan will not turn on? Thanks in advance for any info.

    Hey! Randomly found this. My Focus threw a battery light and I replaced both the alternator and battery as both were about due anyway. However the light didn’t go out and my terminals especially the negative was very corroded. I had no idea the negative had a sensor in it. I’m wondering if your car was throwing a battery light as well? Also do you have a link for the OEM cables?

    After removing the old battery wires/terminals, distilled vinegar and boiled/warm water would have cleaned those terminals right up. that and maybe hit it again with that wire brush.

    • @mikaila31
      @mikaila31 Před 4 lety +1

      I know this is a 10 month old comment but the corrosion in the video is a very clear sign the battery is seeping around the battery terminal. This seepage may only be highly acidic vapors and no actual liquid escaping, but it is still a leak. Metals corrode very quickly when exposed to acids. The corrosion will come back until the battery is replaced. Also best to coat the terminal connectors in lithium grease to reduce potential corrosion.

    MY CABLE WAS TOTALLY CORRODED! You could not tell at first glance. My terminal clamp wasn't too bad but it wouldn't tighten down all the way. When I went to replace the terminal clamp I noticed the cable was totally corroded. I cut off an inch and it was still totally corroded. I'm sure that if I continued to cut I'd fined the entire cable would be totally corroded. It's that bad! It looks like the previous owner already cut the cable back at least once. The OEM part is ordered.

    So I had an issues with battery and battery wires were corroded so they told me it will be around 473 after replacing both and labor. I see there are these cables listed for $30 on multiple sites and battery isn't that expensive either. Is 473 a fair price for replacement and labor? Please let me know, thanks

      Sorry to comment on year old post. But remember when visiting dealer you are not paying wholesale prices on parts that you find online, the oem parts you find online are usually from dealers that have had parts for a certain amount of time and so they let parts go for less than list pricing. Most dealers charge "matrix pricing" they add 10% to list price of parts. I've worked parts department in many dealers and have seen how much they mark up. As far as labor goes each shop and dealer has there own rates, depends if they are privately owned, or by big companies such as Penske auto group, or sonic automotive group
