Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series Review - The Final Verdict

- Klonoa The Reverie Series is an excellent remaster of two already-excellent games. It might not be a de facto replacement of the originals for Klonoa purists, though. The liberal overhaul of the visuals - especially of the first game - do create a slightly different tone that might not be every OG fans’ cup of tea, but I imagine if you’re in that camp yourself then you probably already have a way to play those games anyway.
For everyone else, even long-time fans like myself who feel the new look is a net positive, the performance boost and reworked music is more than enough of a reason to jump in. Additional content is minimal, and I can’t stress enough how having those original versions on here would really sealed the deal, but for how well the games are handled it's hard to not enjoy yourself with the Reverie Series. And thankfully, with the collection now available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and Steam, Namco has made it easier to do so than ever before. - Hry
It's a really good remaster of two really good and fun games. I wouldn't say they're perfect, but I'd say it's mostly just nitpicking. Really worth buying if you want to get into the series or just don't want the hassle of old consoles.
Elements of the visual re-designs for levels of Phantomile I didnt like compared to the PS1 version and some of the cut scenes I prefer the PS1 version most notably the ending. It looks like this version was based a lot more on the Wii remake compared to the PS1 version which makes sense. I replayed Klonoa 2 during the last christmas break so the game was fresh in my memory and it felt the same just a nice visual upgrade.
The only real complaint I have is there could have been more unlockables.I mean theres no real reason to get all the dream stones in Phantomile not even a trophy/achievement attached to completing that. Klonoa 2 has the gallary which was there in the original
@@exiaR2x78 Yeah, those are pretty much my small gripes with the remakes as well. Still very happy with the game, really hope it does well enough to warrant a new game
The original is superior. The ending is so much more emotional than the crappy remake version
I have fond memories of playing Lunatea's Veil with my dad as a kid, back when game store rentals were a thing!
When will tomba get it's remaster favorite as a kid
Would have been nice for this review to include some comparisons with the different versions of the game so we can see side-by-side the changes. It's also a bit weird that there was a complaint about the audio quality of the first game, yet the review didn't even demonstrate it.
I wish the developers will also do a Pandemonium and Tomba remake.
The studio that made Tomba shut down after Tomba 2/During development of Tomba 3. We were lucky to even get the PSone classic ports on PS3. It would be up to Tokuro Fujiwara weather he sells the character or re-opens Whoopee Camp for us to get a Tomba remake. I think Square Enix owns Pandemonium now so guess theres always a shot those games could get remade

I see people in the comments section complaining about the price. Let me say this. How is people gonna pay 60 dollars plus tax for the Mario 3D collection that has no graphical or frame rate improvements to them and you won’t pay 40 dollars plus tax for Klonoa with obvious graphical improvements from the original, games you have probably never played before and good frame rate? Also you are reviving a dead IP with lots of potential. I see how people are. SMH
People don't know how good the Klonoa games are. 40 for both games is a good price.
And they’re mothership title games! But we’re gonna save Klonoa! It sold over a million copies on stream and is the 5th best selling game in Europe right now! And many people are making streams and LPs of the games. It is a mixture of people that have never played the games and that have played the games. There’s many reviews of the game and they all have good scores and have something good to say about the games! But Klonoa didn’t blow up yet! We need Klonoa to blow up! We may get Klonoa 3 and remakes of past games but the fight isn’t over yet!

I ordered the UK version from VGP

Repayable as hell man getting 150 moonstones is quite hard
Door to Phantomile I only had 2 stages to replay haha in the PS1 version the stone collection part for the map you cant even do till after youve finished the main story. Having it all count first time just made it easier for me, I think my play time with everything was just over 2 hours

@@TheIRBerryz Hahah tbf I replay PS1 Door to Phantomile every year xD so the tricky parts with the x2 fairy thing are pretty much burned in my memory at this point xD. It did take me about 20mins to do the extra vision some of the gems in that are tricky

Some things u didn’t mention. The Wii version Klonoa is taller and they made him shorter like the PS1 original here. Wii version also has time trials and some other extras not here.

Man I was at the “proceed to checkout” screen on my Switch until I heard about the possible frame rate issues.
How you gon be owning a switch then be not buying switch over fps

i'm playing on the switch, it runs as you expect, it's not a ps5, but still i didn't find the game to slowdown or "really" drop frames. If you had a framerate display, sure you would feel this impact "more" due to the numbers being shown.

This is such a letdown and Klonoa 1&2 were better visually, without missing animations, and art styles on the original consoles.
Yeah, honestly, I was really disappointed with PR.
K1 was obviously better because it's older and so the changes would be more noticeable, but the horrible "noise" in the voices really broke immersion, and certain parts of the game were just flat and ugly with a bland texture stretched over it (like inside Grandpa's pipe)
K2 was genuinely worse in some way. The water in the sea of tears didn't even have waves, it was just flat. Leorina and tat aren't covered in shadow when we first seem them anymore, they're completely lit up. Why?
And the games were inconsistent. Klonoa's mouth looks so off in 1 compared to 2, and the furry detail on his ears is flat in 1 but clearly has lighting effects on it in 2.
An inconsistent game with PS3 graphics at best. Very sad, and it makes me concerned for the future of Klonoa. Oh yeah, they also nerfed the wind bullet. It's been a while since I played a Klonoa game, but I know for a fact the wind bullets were not that weak. Ridiculous.

You’re getting two games, also we’re trying to revive a dead franchise. Plus this collection is still cheaper than other new games! Also I doubt you played these games before in your life anyway!
