    Nice comparison! I bought an Emira after driving both the Cayman and the Lotus and, as other comments say, it was heart over head for me. The Porsche was superb but the Lotus just felt somehow more special. I've owned it 9 months now, done 6k miles from new (including a road trip around Ireland - where I did have enough space for bags in the end!) and it's been brilliant. Great video, thanks Pete 👍🏻 you can daily an Emira, one of my mates uses his as a station car. When I have driven Emira back to back with my 718 spyder I find the Emira more exhilarating and a better drivers car. It really is brilliant. The spyder is more of a head than a heart car. I bought mine for touring, has great luggage space, although Emira has better ride by a long way. The Emira has a few issues though. 1) is that appalling square and fat steering wheel. 2) the brakes are over servoed 3) it has a degree of rev hang, although it's much better than my 430CUP was in that respect. LOTUS have said they won't do a convertible so all round the boxster wins as a proposition BUT the Emira is a better drivers car and more fun / exciting. Therefore you can make a case for both. And Emira's now a tad over £60k used with low miles! And thanks for the mention 😎👍🏻 14 x 675LT's, 1,000 miles each over 3 days, not a single issue

    The storage space behind the seat on the Emira is actually more useful as there's no such space in a 718. If you're traveling with a passenger. you have no choice to put everything thing in the boot, even if you decided just to remove your jacket as the temp warms up during the day whereas you can just throw it in the behind the seat storage area.

    I've always had a soft spot for Lotus - I used to own a 1967 Elan + 2 back in the 90s. Sensational, bordering on scary, drive. The harder you push them around the tight bends. Then you have to ask yourself, "How much bottle have i got?"
    The only snag with all Lotus cars (apart from the Cortina, Sunbeam, or Carlton) is they're aren't family friendly. Driving wise, there's parallels with Alfas - it's a no holds barred experience.
    The sensible money would go to the Porsche, but for a pure adrenaline rush... the Lotus. That's just my point of view.

    Wow this was a terrific video 😊. I enjoyed every minute! Two great cars without question with the perfect power to enjoy a great British B road. As a Boxster Owner I love my flat 6 but even I was tempted by that supercharger whine! I could never sell my Boxster… but that Lotus could one day be the one to sit beside it lol

    Great review. Sold my 911 for a Cayman. Drove a Elise and sold the Cayman, for me it’s the drive. Almost bought a Emira but I am a biker so my daily Elise is practical enough. When I am old (im only 50s) and have to give up,porkers or Emira, maybe. Great insight thanks. Why not have special everyday, whilst you can. We live once, they are built to drive… Still we are all different.

    Peter, the dream is having both. The nightmare is selecting only one. I love top down driving. And that is what would put me in the Porsche. But I would still lust after the style and presence of the Lotus. And then there is handling. Bugger, the Lotus is always going to win. OK Lotus, will you please cut the top of an Emira. Great video mate. I don't think I would want to be in your shoes when you have to hand that yellow thing back.

    The two cars that I’d love to own above all others: McLaren F1 and Ferrari Dino. That may sound odd- they are very different things. However, they both have mid-mounted engines, double wishbone control arms, manual gearboxes, non-electric power steering, nicely damped ride with lean in the turns (not overly stiff), and gorgeous looks. For me, the only car on sale today that hits those boxes is the Lotus. Thats why I ordered one. In a day where ICE cars are being dulled with electronic aids, or replaced with EVs, it’s the one I want to keep.

    Perhaps one of the best explanations of differences between how cars drive that I’ve ever heard in a car review. When I test drove a ‘6’ Boxster it sounded glorious and was so so competent in its own ability, that i actually came away underwhelmed. You just explained really well what I like in a car. Something that needs you to think, and work at to drive well, and will test you. The Boxster is very rapid, but your just a passenger, a happy passenger but just a passenger
    Agree Lotus need to find a way to get it topless !

    Agree with all the points you made - Looks Emira (its a mini 488 - which you can get for 120K...), Storage (Boxster/Cayman) wins by a mile (I regularly do a weekly supermarket shop for 4 using the frunk), drive (hard one that - Emira edges it - shame you cant get manual in the 4 pot), I don't like the Supercharger sound its too much of a whine - and a 6-Pot Boxster (new GTS) - sound not noise; but its the price - for 90K go for a Cayman (or save yourself 20K and get one with a few miles on it. But then the Emira is beautiful

  • @Kentviking
    @Kentviking Před měsícem +1

    Nice video. Would just flag that it is not too difficult to draw a proper price comparison between the Emira and the Boxter/Cayman GTS new, or used of similar age/mileage this is the most appropriate comparison to make and there isn't much of a difference. A GT4 is a different animal. I am a year and 6k miles into Emira ownership and thoroughly enjoying the ride. Biggest smiles per mile of all my sports/exotica over the years. Would also highlight that that space behind the rear seats is very useful in size, shape and practicality - we did the NC500 over a couple of weeks last May and fitted in all our gear and food and cameras/drones in with no difficulty (even taking some of the gear from our fellow travellers in their F-type)

    Both great cars, I’d be happy with either but forced to choose between the two I’d go for the Lotus. Main reason being whenever I go out I know I’m going to see a number of Porsche’s as they are incredibly popular in my area. The last Lotus I saw was a primrose yellow Elan weeks ago so the rarity would definitely attract me. Great video as always 👍

    The Boxster GTS is a cracking car but the thing that swayed me to an Emira was that slightly more analogue/old school feel you get but with the added benefit of the creature comforts, I sold a Caterham 7 420r for the Emira. The hydraulic steering, manual gear box, great suspension, supercharged V6, rapped in a beautiful shell, were too much to miss and are all going to be a thing of the past, in the not to distant future. Great review though Peter.
