When I was a kid I used to have a plasma globe and if I had them on the same table, when I touched the globe, my Xbox would turn off, and when I put my hand on my friend’s shoulder it would open the Xbox’s disc tray

When you combine high voltage with high frequency and low current, you get all sorts of wierd effects. Things that wouldn't normally be conductive become perfect pathways for current to flow places it shouldn't.

SO as a teenager I had a plasma globe. I have found that by wrapping .5mm copper wire around the globe and feeding one end through a mechanical pencil I could make a cool devise. It would generate a spark on the tip on the pencil that I could use to burn writing into paper or skin to make temporary tattoos.
I got a few of these, and I use to use a ball chain around it to make paper burn designs

Well, if you insist: Get the biggest plasma globes you can.
My grandfather had one of these when I was very young, and it was always fun to turn it on and play with the little plasma tendrils. I think once my brothers and I put a set of keys on top and tried to shock ourselves on those, and it didn't work.

So Cally as for the torch, I'm just guessing okay, this is my idea on how it could be done:
Get a piece of wood and cover it with paper
Coat the of paper with something flammable, then put it on the plasma ball and get a piece of aluminum to burn the paper to see if it will ignite.
If you want to make one explode, you could submerge it in liquid nitrogen, then hit it with a torch after it's super cold. When you put the little one in the cup, it probably wasn't enough of a thermal shock to really do much

Hey I was watching this video it reminded me of a time in school when I had a ring on and rested my hand on the plasma globe. I was talking so I forgot about it lol. Eventually I noticed my finger was tingling where the ring made contact with the globe. Somehow the energy had melted the globe and was directly hitting my ring where I was wearing it. I though this was cool at the time and tried placing my hand there again. This actually made the entire plasma globe explode in my hand! Nobody got hurt but it was wild.

I would like to know if the coil would still work without the original globe, say you broke your globe, could you use a common glass globe or plastic for that matter to cover the coil and have it work just the same?
I always wanted to toy around with those plasma globes, but I was too scared to even try.
