    I love it when science is attempted without a control.
    Side note: boiling concrete/cement would make the curing process less efficient (concrete curing is an exothermic reaction). So ultimately you're boiling off liquid water before it can react and make solid bonds (e.g. why it was like chalk instead of concrete).
    The dry ice thing sort of makes some kind of sense almost... Except that the solid CO2 is just going to leave voids inside (as you saw here). Better option... chill the water before mixing with the concrete/cement mix which is a thing that's already done by professionals.
    You do need a minimum temperature of about 40 degrees (gotta make sure the water doesn't crystallize before it can react because solid water won't mix nicely with concrete but cold helps the exothermic reaction complete.

  • @Talisman-tb6vw
    @Talisman-tb6vw Před 3 lety

    When Hoover Dam was being built, they mixed ice with the cement to keep it cool - because when you pour huge amounts of cement - it generates a lot of heat on its own and in doing so would cure too quickly. Adding ice keeps the cement cool so it cures slowly.

    Should've had one that was properly done with regular water as a control.
    Tip: Let concrete set while being wet, it'll be much stronger. Letting it dry out before setting properly makes it a lot weaker. Concrete should not be dry while setting.
    Ever seen those construction sites where they have sprinklers on top a large slab of recently poured concrete? It is to keep it wet during the whole setting period.
