And with this, there's only one episode left until the final arc of the Clone Wars! It's been so much fun getting to watch you guys experience a show I've loved for years for the first time. It's almost like I got to watch for the first time all over again. I cannot wait to see your thoughts on the final arc, because it's a real heavy hitter. With that being said, let's get on with this episode's fun facts!
We finally get the reveal of what happened to the Martez sisters' parents. They were indeed killed in the Senate hostage crisis from the season one finale "Hostage Crisis," where a team of bounty hunters led by Cad Bane held a group of senators (including Padme and Bail Organa) hostage in order to exchange them for Ziro the Hutt's release. The Jedi that Rafa describes, while it hasn't been confirmed, is widely believed to be the Mirialan Jedi Master Luminara Unduli, who we've seen in several episodes such as the season one episode "Cloak of Darkness" and the "Brain Invaders" arc from season 2. She leads the 41st Elite Corps of the Grand Army of the Republic along with Commander Gree. She was present on Kashyyyk in Revenge of the Sith when Gree was given Order 66 and subsequently killed by Yoda. Her death was planned to be in the movie, but was ultimately cut.
In the Pyke torture room, we see that the main torturer is an 8D-series smelter droid produced by the Roche Hive Mechanical Apparatus Design and Construction Activity for Those Who Need the Hive's Machines (Yes, that is really what it's called). These droids were designed with extreme durability for working within the harsh confines of ore-extraction facilities, which also apparently makes them well suited for torture as we have seen at least two others performing such deeds. The first was one designated 8D8, back in Jabba's palace in Return of the Jedi, and the other was an unnamed unit in the eighth episode of season 3, "Evil Plans." During their escape, Ahsoka and the Martez sisters free a Weequay and an Ithorian being held by the Pykes. They aren't really too important to the story, but keep an eye out; you never know when seemingly innocuous characters might pop up.
The only other thing I can think of mentioning is the group of Mandalorians that spot Ahsoka on the streets of Oba Diah city. The leader mentions meeting Ahsoka on Carlac, which appeared in the season four episode "A Friend in Need." This is indeed Bo-Katan Kryze who also made an appearance in the Shadow Collective arc when Maul ended up taking over Mandalore. She is there with two other Mandalorian Nite Owl warriors. One is unnamed but the other (the one the left, Bo-Katan's right), while not named in the episode, has been confirmed to be Ursa Wren, one of Bo-Katan's lieutenants. You'll want to remember her name, she might show up again at some point.
Well, that's all I've got for today. I'll see you guys next time for the last episode of the arc, "Together Again." See you guys next time! 😄

I don't know if you noticed but the Jedi that the sisters were talking about was Luminara Unduli, Barriss's master. Just another tidbit that shows not just how Jedi lost touch with normal people(because telling two young girls that just lost their parents what is for non force sensitive people just some one line platitude is just... ehhhhhhh) but also highlights how Luminara specifically lost touch with a part of her that is essential for any Jedi, empathy. In this we see another clue to the reason why Barriss, her padawan, lost her way.
While I believe that at the end of the day Barriss is the one responsible for her actions and should face the consequences for them I also 100% believe that if the order and her master did a better job of taking care of the teenage child soldier they created this whole mess could have been avoided.
This is the hill I have chosen and I will die on it.

Yeah man it was the jedis all the way. Definatley not the sith who where pulling the strings and started the whole war.

    • @Leon2607
      @Leon2607 Před měsícem

@@samuelclayhills3298 1) I meant the whole mess with Barriss bombing the temple. While the sith did trigger the war you can't wash the Jedi of the responsibility for their own actions during the war. There is no evidence or mentions in the lore that Sidius had anything to do with what happened to Barriss directly.
      2) While I will admit that the sith most definitely helped in corrupting the Republic and they lighted the fuse that started the war they didn't make it all happen on their own.
It's a natural way of things that governments become corrupt over time. It's similar to catching a disease and if your body is weak and unhealthy it becomes much more likely to catch one. The Republic had its own flaws.
One thing would be the increased power of the Trade Federation, Banking Clan etc.(after all Sidius didn't control the entire senate back then and still TF could just blockade a planet with next to no repercussions), another the senators that cared more about their own profits instead of their planets. Also without a military of its own it's hard to enforce laws and meat out justice. And that's where problems with the Jedi appear. They were too beholden to the senate. The role of the Jedi Order was to serve the force and the people of the galaxy. Since the republic was the biggest government with values matching those of the Order it was natural to ally themselves with the Republic but as time passed calling them senates attack dog while not entirely correct wouldn't be also 100% wrong.
Before the war during the formation of the separatist movement they should have gotten more involved, they should have stood up for those people in the mid and outer rim more clearly. Instead because they bowed to the will of the senate too often they became viewed as a tool of oppression.
Jedi claim that they stay out of politics, but taking no political stance IS a political stance of its own. One that lets those with power do as they please. While not identical this is similar to pre-WW2 Europe when England and France didn't intervene with Nazis attacking European countries such as Czechoslovakia.
So did the sith help make this WHOLE mess? Yes, but they couldn't do it if the senate wasn't this corrupt and the Jedi this unwilling to act. They exploited what was already there. While Dooku became what he hated at the end he wasn't wrong about both institutions' faults.

I personally prefer to blame Luminara. She was too passive when the problem was evident. Even her lessons literally led Barriss to this.
Luminara's lessons can be summarized in 3 points:
      - Ignore emotions.
      - Focus on realities.
      - Fight evil at all costs.
      Well, Barriss followed these teachings...

The one person they bumped into was Ursa Wren .. a Mandalorian, second in command to Bo katan. Night owls.. you'll find out who Ursa Wren is in another series. remember this season was made in 2020 long after Star Wars rebels was finished in 2018 ish ..so they added nice Easter eggs throughout the season.. especially the last 6 episodes , so yeah if you watched it in watch order you would get the easter eggs.. you're gonna hear that name again Ursa

Who is responsible for the death of the Martez sisters' parents?
    Well Luminara aka Barriss's master.
One can blame her because she is a blinded fanatic. She Must carry out her mission, and unfortunately, she does not see the potential consequences, exposing everyone.
Her blindness is the biggest drawback, but not to box her into the same category as psychopath Mundi, I will defend her by analysis and list positive aspects and explain the reason for the negatives.
The fact that Barriss is so talented at such a young age suggests that Luminara cared for Barriss.
However, here are the negatives. In legends and fan stories, it is a common motif that Barriss returns exhausted from a mission and falls asleep in her fighter. Luminara sees this and takes her to her room and then even asks for a break from battles for Barriss.
But after the break, it repeats and repeats again, and again.
And here is the first mistake. This is caretaking but in the wrong way.
The next point will be the main cause of what Barriss did, which is the teachings of Luminara and other Jedi.
Barriss was taught to ignore her emotions and focus on realities. This is the opposite of Ahsoka's training, which involves accepting emotions.
We saw the effects of this training in Season 1: Kit Fisto's student fell into literal fanaticism and died a stupid and unnecessary death.
And in legends, we have Mundi's student who becomes a Sith.
To focus on realities? The previous two examples and Luminara herself did not do this because they did not anticipate that the Jedi could be in any way negative. But here we have the duo; Luminara who values the discipline and principles of the Jedi, and Barriss, who was a perfect student, did everything Luminara told her to do. As a result, already in Season 2, we see that Barriss follows Luminara's teachings, and by focusing on realities, she begins to question some of the Jedi's decisions in her head.
The second point of the teachings is to ignore feelings. This lesson is not a "100% Luminara's success" because Barriss often just accepted her feelings (here is a huge Ahsoka influence). However, in Season 5, you can see the effects of this lesson as Barriss ignored all her feelings and committed an act of terrorism.
The third and final point of Luminara's teachings is: If something is evil, fight it at all costs for the greater good - And that's why Barriss couldn't just leave; She Must show the truth and fight evil even at the cost of sacrificing everything. (because that's all she knows)
Well, in this case, Luminara's teachings for Barriss are both a trap and an eye-opener.
(This logic is the main cause of the fall of the Order)
The next point will be building relationships.
Luminara could have tried something on her own, but she only followed the rules of the Order and did not want to build a strong relationship; she wanted it to be professional. Barriss needed to build a strong bond and support, and Luminara's actions and crimes definitely led to a lack of trust and the destruction of that relationship.
You could even say that the sisterly relationship with Ahsoka was built on Luminara's failure.
And if you think Luminara didn't know about Barriss's attachment to Ahsoka, you're wrong. Luminara knew. After missions, Barriss often went to Ahsoka's room to check if Ahsoka was there. Once she knocked, Luminara came out of Ahsoka's room and demanded an explanation.
Barriss said the key words, “We both support each other and we keep each other in the light.”
Luminara's response perfectly explains her character, "If you keep each other in the light, what if one of you dies? What happens when you don't see each other for a long time? You must be self-sufficient. You must stay by the light, you and nothing but the Force. This attachment will lead you to the dark side. It has already begun."
(She later suggested that Barriss should isolate herself from Ahsoka, but not for a week or a month, but talked about years, she regretted those words, but she said them.)
I don't need to say how catastrophic mistake is in this quote. It shows that Luminara cares about Barriss but is totally wrong and realistically does not know how to take care of her. Unfortunately, her lessons led to Barriss used the dark side.
When it comes to being a Jedi, Luminara also failed, as evidenced by the parents of the Martez sisters. Who in their right mind chases armed criminals in crowds of people? And why, after their parents death, she didn't even help them?
Well, here we go back to points 1 and 3:
She idealizes the Order and believes that evil must be fought at any cost for the greater good. Isolating emotions leads to such situations, and this leads to the "necessary evil for a greater good," something that should never happen. Luminara was taught this and simply ignores the consequences and potentially other paths, and she doesn't even see it; she just goes the straight path regardless of losses, for her mission.
And now a brief summary: Can we blame Luminara for Barriss's fall and crimes?
It seems to me that we can say yes and no.
Yes, because instead of blindly following the rules and idealizing the Order, she could also start questioning it, and in the relationship, Luminara could add something from herself besides empty definitions that were a lie.
No, because Luminara is also a victim of the logic of the Order. Even her race, in this case, is a disadvantage. Mirialans are trained only by Mirialans, and no one could influence positive change. She was identically trained from childhood, and that's why she has such a personality and why she became a fanatic. The Jedi created her and because of this she literally didn't know how to properly take care of something or someone.
A real mistake was made many generations ago, and these are just effects and "realities".
(Realities that Barriss perfectly summed up in her speech. "We" have fallen - Jedi and Barriss.
You can even say that Luminara's teachings led Barriss to realize that she was literally a product of their downfall.)
Plus Ahsoka probably knows it was Luminara because Barriss talked about practically every similar situation to Ahsoka. And if Luminara was there, Barriss was definitely there.

Pretty much the worst episode in the show. Sunny day in the void had this honor for awhile but at least they managed to get out of the damn desert during the episode. Here literaly fuck all was acomplished and as established the Martinez sisters make Jar Jar look tolerable. We could have have the Utapau crystal heist but no gotta get more Ahsoka because the fans love her. Thanks a lot fans.

Yeah, pretty much, the Clone Wars was Ahsoka's show from a certain point of view. It began with the introduction of Ahsoka, and the Clone Wars show concluded with Ahsoka. But the Martez sisters arc was alright, but they could have added what you explained about the crystal heist instead of this. And I wouldn't mind; I like the more serious aspect of the shows. Yeah, some humor here and there is great, but going off on a side quest before finishing the last season of the Clone Wars was a wasted opportunity.
