@@thebuzz4108 They were only rebranded from MTB to corvette due to their seaworthyness, which is comparable to corvettes, and lack of torpedoes. Skjold fills the role of a fast patrol boat, just like Hauk did before. If you start comparing sizes, you will quickly see that Skjold is small for a corvette too. Skjold is even listed as a patrol boat on wikipedia en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrol_boat .

Some fun facts: Patrol Boats before called Patrol Torpedo boats, they are made during ww2 against japanese navy, and it worked so well, although lot of the casualties caused by storm and sunk

The CB90H was already in Brazil in 2004, N.Sindin Dockstavarvet AB sent a CB90H vessel to Brazil to be tested by the Brazilian Army (EB) in the Amazon region. The tests carried out were a success, where the vessel, manned with Army soldiers, performed all kinds of procedures inherent to the region. Despite the high performance of the vessel, the Navy opted for a national armored speedboat "DGS 888 Raptor", in the Brazilian Navy (MB). According to MB, it is equivalent to CB90 H and the best motorboat is national.
The CB90 comes in many versions where engines weaponry etc etc differs alot.

These vehicles are not daily use vehicles so that we can avoid fuel costs..
Speed means fuel, you can reduce Fuel consumption a little with some design change, but you can't change the truth of the matter.

Considering the US Navy's PT Boats are 85 years old there has been little increase in speed, mainly type of engines, electronics and armament, type of construction, but for their time and war time conditions the original PT Boats got the job done !!!

Nobody contest speed requirement for Patrol Boats !?!
Typical speed requirement for those boats are between 20 and 28 knots, the one most requested is 25 knots as for rescue boats too.
Nowadays we can consider this category as Patrol Gun Boat, especially with growing treat posed by drones, having territorial and contiguous waters as primary operative area.
Patrol Boat as USCG Sentinel class are instead primarly tasked on control of EEZ.
Over we have the biggest Offshore Patrol Vessel.
All of them have similar speed request with some push of highiest one in the smaller category.
Due to peace/war double utility it's impossible/hard to use those ships on Navy duty for legal reason being easier to integrate in Coast Guard because it is equiparated to Police (simplifying) and trained for.
Last heavily armed Patrol Boats are harbour security and submarine entry/exit escort.
Warship entry/exit escort should be tasked too, but usually is executed by personel armed with gun and rifle, being to me just a Police boat

45 knots for cb90 is if it it is under max load, its been stated it can go much faster. the russian one is a copy of the swedish one. so putting that ahead when they clearly uses worse engines and have given thier numbers not based on max load is kinda bad.
I can see they are using the stated official speed in this video. That is definitely not the true speed.
Plus it's a worthless number because in any kind of sea state, a Nimitz class carrier will out pace it.
@@MatHelm lol, yes I wish I could tell you how fast we clocked the Carl Vincent on the Kelvin Hughes. We had to call the captain, we taught maybe it was being attacked. Turns out they were proceeding to recover aircraft at the far end of the Gulf. That thing was hauling 4 pairs if asses.

I have seen a Swedish patrol boat (not the cb90) towing a water skier at 30 knots in 1978. It didn’t actually work so well, and the boat commander was later fined for the “show”.

That last one, which came in at no. 1, looked alot like the World War II 77-ft Elco PT boats, PT'S 20-68. I'm a PT boat fanatic.

I was disappointed that the video was about modern boats, I was hoping for WW2 stuff. Did you know that Elco designers visited England in 1939 to see what boats the British were producing. They ended up buying PV70, a 70 foot MTB, from the British Power Boat Company. This boat was designed by power boat racer Hubert Scott-Paine. It was renamed PT-9 and served as the prototype for all the early Elco PT boats. During testing some deficiencies were discovered and modifications and improvements were made before it went into production as the 77 foot Elco.
My favourite is the British Fairmile D MGB. Slower, only about 30 knots, but bigger 115 ft, and much more heavily armed. 2 x 6 pounder (57mm, 2.2 inch) autoloading power turrets, 55 rounds per minute, 4 x 20 mm Oerlikons, 2 x .303 Vickers and 4 depth charges. The MTB version had fewer guns but could carry either 4 x 18 inch or 2 x 21 inch torpedoes.

Imagine that even with all that tech only one can beat a ww2 pt boat at 50 kn but knowing those old engineers 50 was for the papers I bet 52 or more was possible which begs the question why not go old school with lighter material
You can try cracking 52 knots on your plywood wonder (assuming the engines were recently refitted and retuned) with human-aimed and stabilised weapons and take a run at an aluminium-hulled boat with digital fire-control systems and automatic gun stabilisation if you want. I wouldn't.
@@aaronleverton4221 those Detroit engines with super charged when their in shape are the boss as for the fancy fire control systems remember those guys took on the Japanese biggest and best without it and got it done and some were aluminum hulls later in the war so I don't doubt their numbers or kills even a modern navy hadn't racked up that much
@@warrathblacktiger5566 In ww2 the USN peaked at almost 7,000 ships, the RN wasn't too far behind. Of course you've never seen a modern navy with the numbers of kills from WW2, no navy in the world is that big anymore.
As for the engines on the PT boats, they needed regular servicing as performance could drop by as much as 40% without it. Also, the non-radar equipped PTs were going up against non-radar equipped Destroyers in the dark. Good luck pitting your non-radar equipped PT against a modern one with radar and a fire-control computer in charge of a 25mm Bushmaster autocannon on a stabilised mount.

Notice all the tech and such the speeds now are very similiar, the big difference is in the radar and radio tech, engines similiar except diesel now. For their day the PT Boats were state of the art !!! ALL engines need regular service and maintainence as do modern engines and they operated under war time conditions !!!

You're missing the Colombo Class series 3 that replaced the Dvoras in the Sri Lankan Navy that's faster (53 knots). It was initially based on Shaldag MK 2 but ended up being better in both speed and payload
