I knew a guy in high school who was a fast draw enthusiast circa 1959 and he demonstrated his technique one Halloween. He would let you hold a cocked bb rifle and on a signal from an onlooker he could clean his holster and fire before you could squeeze the trigger of the rifle. Damn!

It's gotta be a pretty small world. Everyone there ought to pretty much know everyone else. Also it's not too surprising that very young teens are the very best. Youngsters can train small-muscle speed in a way that adults simply can't. They have less distance to travel and less weight to move. Their muscles are tight and their nerves are brand-new. You see the same thing in speed-based video games (like minesweeper; 11 year old champ)

Back in the 70’s and 80’s there was a husband and wife team that would put on quick draw shooting performances in and around the Houston area. Part of the show involved strapping the wife to a spinning wheel, surrounded by 6 balloons. The husband would proceed to draw and fire six shots in what sounded like a single shot, hitting all 6 balloons (not the wife). They were absolutely amazing! Does anyone out there remember them, or know who they were? They both wore very elaborate black and white western outfits with silver trim covered in rhinestones. They were getting up in age way back then (70ish), so I doubt they are still around today.

Seems like the 70s was the last of the wild west towns.
By one of my properties in Far west Texas there is an old "ghost town park" From then. Last I heard they want a outrages price of like $3 million for it.
In 20 years I've never seen any movement. Though I seen a couple years ago the repainted it.
But what is an old ghost town park really worth?
You can do the same thing for less then $500,000.

Now, I'd done years of practical pistol of all kinds, and owning land and growing up country I'd been able to goof off with pistols enough to try shooting while suspended upside down and swinging (it's doable but slow). So quick draw: My first attempt wasn't slow, and amazingly it was a hit. I was suddenly addicted. A year later I was no faster, and no less accurate. I'm always fascinated by the truly fast.

I assume that there's no rules on starting position so that there's no requirement to judge and penalize people if they leaned too much or started with their hand in an illegal position. That could be appropriate for the Olympics but this primary point of this competition is having fun (if the video was accurate), not obsessing over rules.

Good natured, but in reality guns are meant to kill. Even this aspect is based off shooting fast so you can kill the other guy before they can kill you.
Guns are meant to kill. Culture involving guns are culture involving killing. Sure, not all killing is "bad", like for self defense, but it's not good either and usually bad, since if it can be avoided, you'd defend yourself without killing the other person, and with guns involved on either side, that is much harder. That is why there is so many gun deaths and mass shootings in USA, from both police and civilians. It's the only country in the world that has such mass shootings, simply because there is so many guns due to gun culture. Simple as that.

Do you have any recommendations on fast draw using the "cavalry draw"? I would appreciate any advice you can offer.
I am both a history nut and gun aficionado. I've been a black powder reenactor/shooter since the late 1970s. My "personae" has been a "longhunter/frontier rifleman." I am now a "senior." My interest is cowboy action shooting. I've adopted a personae of a late 1860s army scout using a Henry 44-40 rifle and carrying two 1858 New Army .44 Remington revolvers (black powder). I want to use the "cavalry draw," so, I carry the pistols with the barrel facing backwards and down, grips forward. The SASS rules indicate that this carry/draw method ("cavalry draw") is okay. (For authenticity with my character, I'm using the standard Remington 7.5-inch barrel, much longer than usual short-barrel fast draw Colts I've seen used at SASS events.)

You know, I would think that an engraved gun would come out of a holster slower than one smooth and polished. I also wonder if those mouth blown balloons are measured with accuracy. A bigger balloon would stick out further in the target,
giving that shooter a minute advantage..IDK...
