Vagabond is an incredibly moving, haunting, and beautiful journey that I'm grateful to have made. As it explores Musashi's development, it bestows on the reader a sense of connection with the heavens and the earth too. Thank you, Merphy, for all the amazing discussions that enriched this experience so much for me!

Is the series all just artwork. I feel like people clown on say demon slayer for being MID and carried by animation. Not something I say or agree with but the artwork looks great in vagabond. My question is if it works its way up to such high scores because its executed so well (which I like) vs being mind-blowingly unique (which I think is a dumb take to have but people use it (dumb in that most stories are done already and the ones that are not are too weird for general audiences)) also is it deep philosophy and character drama that is basically equivalent to other stories with less artwork. I know shonen gets hit hard for not being deep but they just breaze through the deep parts since their fans complain for slow sections (chainsawman part 2).

i read vagabond through when you said you were gonna start it and the parts about human connection were so beautiful. the farming and by the sea arcs being my favourite for that reason, with the old man by the sea (Jisai maybe?) being my favourite character. He was so human, so flawed but how connecting with others brought him back from the brink, from his lowest point was really moving. And i think my favourite scene without spoiling was when another character tells Jisai he hasn't noticed something about another person because he only thinks of himself and the anguish he feels, like he's failed this person was so real and believable i really felt it myself.

Been wanting to read this series for awhile alongside Berserk. Between this, Berserk and Vinland Saga (the seinen Big Three of sorts), it’s kind of depressing to know only Vinland Saga is still going (with the original author). I’ve heard good things about Berserk and the new author, I trust that, I just haven’t gotten around to reading the series properly. Same goes for Vagabond which is even sadder because I train in martial arts and my school covers Musashi’s sharpened oar. I think I’ll start on it today.

I draw a lot and I have done many master studies of his inks and watercolors and tried to imitate some of his design ideas in my own stuff. and I can surely say that the level of love and care he put into his work is unmatched. thank you for reading and reviewing this masterpiece. seeing your manga journey has been an absolute blast and I hope you get to read more artistically sophisticated works like Berserk, Shigurui and Goodnight Punpun. these are some of the best examples of visual storytelling and it’ll be awesome to hear your thoughts on them.

03:34 Inoue sensei said its almost done.. I ve watched an interview of him recently. Its an old one though. He was saying its almost finished. I mean whats left is Musashi to forgive himself and that usually would happen after he fights Kojiro.. Thats my take on it. And I dont want it to be finished to be honest. As it is its complete already and anyone can draw a conclusion from it i guess. I mean it opens a path to so many conclusions because we read and understand things quite differently.. (Still i would be super happy to see more of Inoues drawing and philosophy)

Anyone know where to get a high quality digital version of Vagabond? My big print editions keep pulling a Merphy and I’m sure I’ve lost some pages.

I think my favorite fight was Musashi vs kojiro playing in the snow.

I think you used to talk about Berserk on your channel. But yeah, I really hope you can finish Berserk and talk it with Dr Chase. I mean, it would feel completed if you already read two of big three seinen manga and wrap it up with Berserk. Of course the violance even against women and children that contain in this manga will become the obstacles or hurdles for the readers. But the struggle to overcome the trauma is the most beautiful part of the story. I really hope you made a discussion with Dr Chase for Berserk. Peace

You've been doing Vinland Saga and Vagabond, but you gotta do Berserk Merphy. It may be too dark for your liking, but Guts is one of the best protagonists you'll ever get to know. Same with the antagonist too
