  • 🧨 DYNAMITE 🧨 -- BTS' K-pop upbeat disco-pop song with elements of funk, soul, and bubblegum pop influenced by 1970s music. View my first watch here!
Korean boy band BTS says the song talks about joy and appreciation for the little things that make life valuable--which is so necessary during this Covid quarantine. It's catchy, but is it groovy? Let's listen and hustle on back to the 1970s to find out! It awarded BTS their first Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance--the first Kpop act to receive that nomination.
"Dynamite" debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart--their first number-one single in the United States--and BTS was the first all-South Korean act to do so!

Thank you for reacting to BTS. I'm always a bit disappointed when first time reactors stumble in on their full English songs, as while they are good, they are not their best. Personally, when it comes to covid era songs, I much prefer Life Goes On which, because it is in Korean, missed out on the radio play that Dynamite had. It gives much better insight into what our guys are all about. Most of their music is better live than their studio versions, believe it or not. They are truly talented singers, rappers, dancers and just the most amazing human beings! Hope you continue to look into them and their music - I'm sure you won't be disappointed. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Hi btslove961! Yes, I often feel that I'm missing out on a band or singer's best when I react to their dance hits---even when it's good like Dynamite. Life Goes On is a new recommendation! I'll add it to my list! Thank you!

Thank you for reacting to BTS. If you are interested in pandemic era music, they have more. Their album BE released in 2020 has songs such as Life Goes On, Blue and Gray, and Fly to My Room. In 2021 they released the single Permission to Dance (an anagram of Stories on Pandemic) written by Ed Sheeran, celebrating life get back to normal. As a fun fact, the president of South Korea named them as Special Presidental Envoys and awared them diplomatic passports ahead of their 3rd speech at the United Nations General Assembly, where they also performed Permission to Dance. And finally this spring member Jimin releases a solo album Face which chronicles his emotons during lockdown. Thanks again for your reaction!💜

I would recommend you their tiny desk concert and 2021 festa room live 😊. Or the MTV series. Then you can get an idea of their vocals.
They used some auto tunes (not for pitch correction just for the sound effects) to create different vibes to fit the songs. I agree that the auto tunes take away charms from a singer’s voice to some degree.
Anyway, even though dynamite is a retro-disco vibe but it’s “new” which I think it’s special. To duplicate a style is one thing but to add new things to the old is another which I like it better.
Thank you for your honest reactions. There is a lot to talk about BTS but I would hope their music will speak to you first 😊 if not now, not a big deal. BTS will be there when you need them or when the time comes.
    💜💜💜

Thanks, yi-janliu8572 -- I look forward to hearing more BTS. Everyone has been so generous with suggestions here. I agree that autotune, even for effect, neutralizes the true quality of the voice. I appreciate the sound, especially for a song like Dynamite, and I'm glad to learn that they are more than that. I'll check out your recommendations. Stay tuned!

Thanks for reacting to this. You should see the dance break they did to dynamite. It’s like an homage to Michael Jackson. You may want to check out Guide to BTS members by Taylor Mari to have a kittle bit of background about the boys. Then check out their Mic Drop collab with Steve Aoki. That song was a clap back to the haters , some of whom were mentioned in the documentary. The production and choreography of Mic Drop is amazing. I know you will enjoy it.

I love how you and others responding here are so respectful and generous in your comments. Thanks for this reaction. :)
BTS is a South Korean boy band consisting of three rappers and four vocalists. And all seven of them are excellent dancers.
BTS members are about to join the military.
After releasing a collaboration single with Coldplay, Jin, the oldest member, already enlisted about 7 months ago and is serving under Korean law.
And J-Hope joined the military about 3 months ago after releasing his solo album Jack In The Box and collaborating with J.Cole.
Other five BTS members will also serve in the military and will be reunited in 2025. So they are briefly stopping their eight-year group works and focusing on their solo work.
They do a wide variety of music, but basically they are rooted in hip-hop.
All seven members are participating in making their songs by writing, composing, and producing them.
BTS started with a small company that almost went bankrupt, so they have been very looked down and hated by Korean broadcasting stations and other K-pop fandom. So they have struggled from the beginning to prove themselves.
If you're interested in BTS' other songs, I highly recommend Mic Drop's MV and the live performances. (It's one of their billion-view music video.) And then...
    FIRE
    Blood Sweat & Tears
    On kinetic manifesto film
    Black Swan
    Young forever
    Spring day
    Heartbeat
    Save me→I'm fine→Best of Me
Daechwita(Agust D 대취타, Suga's solo) will be great.
These are pretty different from Butter or permission to dance or Dynamite. (Only these three songs are fully English.)
And, all of their music videos provide English subtitles. :)
Their lyrics are very deep and beautiful.
Or, I think it would be good to follow a story line.
DNA: Joy of fateful love → Fake Love: Realizing that love was a lie → IDOL, The Truth Untold, Epiphany, Answer Love Myself: To love other people completely, you should love yourself first.
These are included in Love Yourself Trilogy.
The lyrics of BTS' songs are based on their own experiences, and their albums are organic because they contain their growth narrative.
It will also be fun to listen to their albums in order and analyze them. :)
They make a wide variety of genres of music like Hip-hop, Ballad, R&B, pop, EDM, etc. I'm sure there're quite a few of their over 300 songs that suit your taste. :)
Oh, plz don't forget their live performances. :)
Personally, one of my favorite Dynamite live performance is BTS-IHEART RADIO MUSIC FESTIVAL 2020 FULL HD!
    czcams.com/video/k0VMFosBRXU/video.html
The direction and transition from Dynamite to Make It Right, Spring Day, and Boy With Luv are so touching and great. :)
2020 MMA Black swan Perf.+ On + Life Goes On+ Dynamite
    czcams.com/video/PtaP4UkZKyc/video.html
Suga couldn't participate in the performance due to rehabilitation after his shoulder surgery, but this is one of the masterpieces.
    Maybe you can try this.
[2021 FESTA] BTS (방탄소년단) BTS ROOM LIVE
    czcams.com/video/RRhjdYsNwAk/video.html
It's a medley performance where you can taste the diversity of their music in 10 minutes. They are Korean songs, but English subtitles are provided, so you don't need to worry. :)
They don't dance in this performance, but you can see them having so much fun. :)
Sorry for this long comment. But I hope you enjoy this journey. :)

They are so talented, personable, and versatile. I love them. Their live performances are even better than their MVs. I'm an older ARMY (64) who loves watching newbies discover BTS...but when they start with Dynamite I am a bit disappointed because it is all in English and does not showcase the full range of their incredible talent. Astounding thing about BTS is that they became a worldwide phenomenon singing mostly in Korean! Anyway, thanks for the reaction. Their rap and dance stuff are breathtaking, but for more vocal prowess, I would recommend ON:Kinetic Manifesto. Film Out, House of Cards, Truth Untold, or even their most recent group release, Take Two, which is a love letter to fans as we wait for them to complete their mandatory military service. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Yaaay! I absolutely love BTS! Thanks for reacting to them. :) You gave great insights! I do prefer their korean songs, since those are the ones they pretty much write themselves. I'd suggest "Black Swan" which is about the tragedy of an artist falling out of love with their art. And also for a sadder song "Spring Day". When that song was released, many connected it to the 2014 Sewol Ferry disaster, a disaster where 304 individuals had drowned in a capsized ferry traveling to a resort on Jeju island, 250 of them being high schoolers. The music video is connected to that tragedy while the lyrics are not connected. That song was also very emotional for BTS and their fans during the pandemic because it symbolized the feelings of BTS wanting to perform live for their fans and missing them.

You should really check out the live performance of this they did on NPR Tiny Desk. It has live band and you get to hear their live voices. This song was released in 2020 so I wouldn't call it a "new release"... BTS are known for genre bending and mixing. This was not supposed to specifically be a 70's disco throwback, but a song that pays homage to the genre while blending it with their own style. It was also a tribute to MJ.

Hi reneezemlock7880 -- I recorded this 3 years ago, but just posted now. I wish their press at the time represented the song as you just put it! I get the MJ homage, though it's more of MJ's 80s sound than that of the Jackson 5. I love that they made it their own, however. BTS is not just a typical KPop idol group. They are global A-listers. They're the only artist who got 3 number 1 albums in less than a year since The Beatles. They have broken records set by The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, One Direction etc. They are not just known for being great singers, rappers and dancers but also, their Korean lyrics are so deep, meaningful and inspirational. The message they send through their lyrics, music and artistry resonates with the general public because they tackle depression, anxiety, mental health, discrimination, social expectations, injustices, self love, hard work, following your dreams etc. They have 3 English songs Dynamite, Butter and Permission To Dance which they released during the height of the global pandemic to bring positive vibe and hope to all their fans across the world. Their 3 English songs are not really that deep compared to their Korean songs. The seven members are all songwriters, producers and composers. Although they have in-house producers, they are actively involve in writing, composing and producing their songs from their debut album in 2013 to their solo stuff until now. Their music genres include Pop, Disco-pop, Hip Hop/Rap, Latin Pop, EDM, R&B/Soul, Ballad, Funk, Synth Pop, New Age, Moombhaton, Electronica etc. Name it, they have it. As of March 2023, they have already won over one thousand awards and counting plus individual awards with 28 Guinness World Record. They top Billboard, Itunes, Spotify, and other music platforms. They sell out stadiums across the globe including Sofi Stadium, Allegiant Stadium, Rose Bowl in the US and the legendary Wembley Stadium in England in less than an hour. Getting a BTS concert ticket is like hunger games.Their music videos are insane but they are better live. Their fans ARMY are not just screaming teenage girls but people who are in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s even 60s and 70s. I'm 48 and I'm an ARMY. By the way, Dynamite is not a new released song from BTS. You are right, palmdalians2! Being completely new to BTS and reading what they said their influences were for Dynamite, I was not getting it -- and as far as it sounding 1970s retro, I still don't. And since I love 70s music, I was baffled. My reaction was recorded 3 years ago, but not posted till now. The video for Dynamite was exciting, but as much as they featured each artist, it seemed more of a group effort and I couldn't comment on the individuals. People have mentioned other songs of theirs that showcase their real talents. I look forward to hearing a lot more of BTS and being able to react to the artists, themselves.

The song is from summer of 2020. Is the reaction that old?
BTS debuted in summer of 2013 and you would have not recognied that this is the same group. Because while they have done Überpop they actually come from Hiphop: They are made up of 3 rappers and 4 vocalist. They have over 300 songs.
I have heard the vocalist described as follow:
V (baritone), JK (main singer, Tenor), Jin (Alto-Tenor) and Jimin (lead vocalist - in K-pop in rank between vocalist and main vocalist; Countertenor)
If you want to know something about them I'd try Taylor Mari's Bangtan 7.
Maybe something from bby gang mag like "BTS vs. K-pop" (has a definetion of what K-pop actually is) or "BTS: More Than K-pop" (why is BTS the group that made it to the global top from K-pop)
If you have time and need more context "The Rise of Bangtan"-series has a lot of music and context (the Bonus is funny).
They have songs in 3 different languages with some very different genres between them in their group AND solo work - usually there is English mixed into their Korean/Japanese songs.
You'd probably want to hear some live vocals.
I think there is a "Film Out" (Japanese OST) Version on Blood Bank.
Or maybe from their concert last year "MicDrop" and "Run BTS" right after another for their Busan concert.
Their "Butter" performance on the Grammy's was also great.
BTS grandest performance was probably on MMA 2019 - which was an Award Show - and I can garantee that you have *NEVER* seen anything like that.
Maybe something from the channel "Enjoy BTS More" as they have lyrics translations as subtitles.
BTS is usually known for their lyrics - which doesn't mean that there are not songs where it is "only" about fun.
    You nice! Keep going! 💜

Welcome to the wild world of BTS - They sing/rap in Korean, Japanese and English. Their wordplay and lyricism are legendary...Their music is made up of nearly every genre, they have something for everyone.... Hip Hop, Pop, Ballad, Rock, Latin Pop, Jazz, RnB, Indie, EDM, etc... They are all writers, composers and producers. ...They have a group discography of over 300 songs and also their solo projects and songs they give to fans for free as gifts on soundcloud.... They were only 15-20 years of age when they debuted in 2013 and have always remained true to themselves and their art....They sing live while dancing.... they are an audio-visual extravaganza. .
BTS and their music tackle issues such as mental health, self love and personal development, youth and female empowerment, cyber bullying, child and youth violence, breaking gender stereotypes, fight against current social and socio-economic norms, anti-racism, antiviolence, social consciousness and personal responsibility, positivity, Kindness and charity, inclusivity
To learn more about them - Taylor Nakamoto's A Guide to BTS Members (Bangtan7) 2022 Updated czcams.com/video/huV_yIdxZPY/video.html VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as the first step in your journey - you will get to know the members and hear a little of their music... It is 47mins long but don't worry ARMY will happily watch you react to it .
You will find ARMY is very diverse, we are global and made up of all ages (I'm 51), genders, creeds, customs, races and religions and welcome anyone who appreciates BTS and their message.
The BTS rabbit hole is deep - but soooo much fun!!💜💜
    Have a wonderful day💜

Hi beccal.5369 -- Your review here encapsulated what everyone else has been saying, and your feeling for this group comes through like poetry, itself! I love how you represented the diversity of their music and their POV and how they are progressive in their social commentary. I just may join the ARMY! :) Rabbit hole, here we come! What's your favorite genre or performance of theirs?

    • @beccal.5369
      @beccal.5369 Před 11 měsíci +1

@@DayleSong It is honestly impossible to have a favourite. I sat here for half an hour seriously trying...
Like Queen - their catalog is so diverse and mixes so many genres and mindblowing performances that how can I choose.... it really depends upon my mood at any particular time... but if you held a gun to my head I think it would have to be the MMA2019 Award Show Performance that really blew my mind(38 minute extravaganxa of multiple songs - best to review the songs first before watching - I can link them if you want)
Before BTS I listened to an eclectic mix of music classical, opera, jazz, bluegrass, big band, heavy metal, rock... I grew up with pink flloyd, queen, iron maiden, etc... I love great performances and music that moves me -
I note that you are a vocal and musical theater coach - you are in for a treat with BTS live performances.
For you I would suggest maybe Black Swan:
      MV czcams.com/video/0lapF4DQPKQ/video.html
Live Performance with eng subs (use CCs) czcams.com/video/GBLrVhiGxgU/video.html
Incredible song - Stunning performance - and as an artist yourself i think you may relate.
With "Black Swan," BTS divulge their most harrowing shadow yet, one that any person who lives for making art faces: losing the passion for creating.
"A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." Martha Graham.
This quote is at the root of the sentiments inlaid in "Black Swan." Much like a dancer feels purposeless when they can no longer express themselves through dance, BTS contends that the day that music no longer fills them with the same passionate fire as before, or even if there came a day when they stopped creating music - what they feel is their life's purpose - it would feel like death.
RM sings, "If this can no longer resonate / No longer make my heart vibrate / Then this may be how I die my first death."
BTS affirm that despite their countless record-breaking accolades, the wealth they've amassed, and their ever-increasing fame, they are artists. What means most to them is the art - music, visuals, dances - that they create.💜💜

BTS quasi allegro a ARMY to the world during the long period of COVID quarantine, when this the first of three songs in English that they released for that purpose. The others are Butter (which has a great performance with dance break at the Grammys, Dynamite was also presented at the Grammys) and Permission to Dance (which even has a performance recorded at the UN facilities and which was presented inside a General Assembly after BTS's third speech to that body).
But during that period they also did not present their album BE for which they selected and included songs that express the various feelings and moods that we all lived in that period. From that album I recommend Life Goes On and Blue and Grey (about depression and anxiety) which you can enjoy on their MTV Unplugged

    • @DayleSong
      @DayleSong  Před 11 měsíci

Thank you, borreguitoazul, for your explanation of the covid era songs. I am intrigued that they have separate choreography videos for some of their songs different than their official videos. Is the Grammys dance break for Butter your favorite? I would like to see their most notable choreo. I appreciate all your suggestions!

    • @borreguitoazul
      @borreguitoazul Před 11 měsíci +1

@@DayleSong In Korea it's very common for dance practices to be uploaded, in them you can generally appreciate all the choreography and they even serve as a guide for those who have dance groups that stage their songs.
Actually I like all their performances, they and their team pay a lot of attention to the whole set-up, being that they also sing live while dancing, with or without a track behind.
The one of the Grammys Dynamite was singing live without a vocal track behind and they pre-recorded it because they couldn't travel because of the confinement but it was in one shot (from beginning to end without cutting the recording and they were touring different stages). The one of Butter was direct at the event, but besides the fact that it was mounted with a special theme, his dance break was spectacular, more because they went through a lot to perform. I'll tell you, a week and a half before traveling from Korea they had to change the set because one of them hurt his hand and it was necessary to do surgery so he couldn't do the whole dance; days later another one tested positive for Covid, went into quarantine which prevented them from being able to rehearse completely, besides he stayed in Korea while the others traveled to Las Vegas.
Another of the boys traveled a little more than half a day earlier than the others to do tests with a harness. Before the others arrived, he got a positive Covid result, and had to go into quarantine. So only 4 of them were rehearsing and it wasn't until the morning of the day before the awards ceremony that the member who stayed in Korea was able to get to Las Vegas and the other member's quarantine was lifted, so they only had a few hours the afternoon before to rehearse all together.

This and their other two english tracks were not as much "their" songs as the rest of their discography. Thanks, Carie -- I do plan on reviewing more classic material, as well. And Mariah is still producing!

In terms of "COVID" tracks, I actually think 'Life Goes On' by BTS is a good one. Very different feel than Dynamite. Would love to see your reaction to some of their live stuff! The two I recommend the most (especially for you) have their vocals at the forefront, and additionally, Proof Live has a live band & backup singers, which just sounds delightful! Be sure to turn on captions for both videos if you're interested in lyrics!

Audio note - your voice is almost completely in the left earphone, while the background music is almost completely in the right. No idea if it's intentional, but thought I'd let you know in case it's not.

Thank you, bangtannoah, for the links! I appreciate knowing exactly which videos you prefer, and these are excellent suggestions. You got it right that I want to hear their individual voices and I love to delve into lyrics. As to your audio note, this reaction was done 3 years ago with a mic that made my audio mono in one channel. Going forward, I will be stereo!
