Before Adam and Eve leave the garden of Eden he creates garments for them to wear. In one final act of love for his disobedient children he gives them the protection they will need to survive in a much harsher environment than they're used to and by example teaches them how to craft more garments for themselves.
It speaks volumes about the nature of God himself and the trials he sets before us. Despite overwhelming odds he is always ready to provide what is needed to persevere - even when we don't deserve it.
How would it be "against overwhelming odds" for God to provide what we need? Allegedly He holds all the cards. I swear religious people are so braindead!
The clothes God makes for adam and eve came from a lamb which God got adam to slay. The lamb is suppose to represent Jesus sarfices himself for mankind. God pick up adam hand and drop it on the lamb. God said the lamb represent himself and the sacrifice he made for mankind and adam close his eyes when god drop his hand on the lamb and eve was crying. God got adam to use a knife. Adam and eve did not want to hurt the lamb but God told them they had to for the sake of mankind because mankind had become sinful after adam and eve ate the apple.

When I was a kid, I would often read a Children's Bible that was in the waiting room of a doctor's office. In that particular Bible, it was explained that Eve was not startled by the talking snake because she was actually delighted to have someone new to talk to other than Adam or God. Not to say any version/theory is right or wrong, I just thought this idea was worth a mention.

Paul who wrote most of the New Testament believed that Adam was a real person. In Roman's 5:12 he wrote that sin entered the world through one man (referring to Adam)
Truth! This is full of liberal theology.
Also, the genealogy in Luke chapter 3 goes back to Adam and Eve. If Adam and Eve were aligorical, they would not be named in a genealogical record.

Paul should be in Rikers for crimes against humanity..he got off lightly..amen
@johnpro2847 Paul acknowledged that he was the chief of sinners, although what he had done was ok with the government. When he met Jesus on the road to Damascus, that changed his life's trajectory.
I wish religion was presented like this more often. This is much more interesting and logical to me; had it been presented in this way when I was in a religious high school I mightâve stuck around!
Its not, it takes a basic principle that the bible was written to be understood by the lame-man yet it has never been understood as evident by the trillions of âgod fearingâ man who still go out of their way to violate the commandments đ€Šđœââïž its but a story that has little to no real bearing in modern society
If you are going to give your life to Jesus I strongly recommend that you do it very soon. Like yesterday. Do you know... it has begun.
Why not do more âresearch â into Christianity now? Never too late đ€·đŸââïž
god knew the world would sin before he created it
This is what they teach in bible college. My first classes my professors told me âYou may think a Christian college will help your faith, it may. More likely, you wonât hold the same beliefs you used to have.â Meaning- Life isnât what we perceived from Sunday school.
Hang on, there were two important trees in the garden of eden. The first bore fruit regarding the knowledge of good and evil while the other bore fruit as referenced in Genesis 3:22, âThe man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.â
I can't believe you believe that s*** and you can actually write two words together and form a sentence.
*Thoughty enters the chat.*
Wrong would of live forever...if they obeyed the command...God provided all that they could want or need..however He ( GOD) Said do NOT take from this tree..well now here we are dying..from age and sickness...because of greed..
Exactly. From 6:44 in the video he asks "so why did God not want them to eat this forbidden fruit?" meaning the fruit of the *knowledge* of good and evil, and then he says there's nothing to indicate it shouldn't be eaten in the future - at 6:59 he quotes revelation 22:7 "to the one who is victorious I will give the right to eat from the tree of *life*" this is a different tree/fruit!
Some interesting points in this video but this misunderstanding of such a basic point makes me suspicious of his well researched it is.
They were permitted to eat from the tree of life which sustains life as long as they keep eating it (I.e. immortality). Once they get banished from the garden of Eden (because they ate the forbidden knowledge fruit) they are condemned to be mortal and eventually die (because no longer can eat from the tree of life) and the rest of humanity is condemned along with them. Jesus then offers a way to eternal life by believing in him, as he was the perfect sacrifice done once, and for all. This is what revelation refers to, being able to eat once more from the tree of Life, i.e. immortality.
@@martenkrueger8647 exactly my point..
This is amazing because a lot of these things my theology professors shared with us my first semester in bible college. They said- âThis will more likely challenge your beliefs as a Christian, rather than reinforce them.â
Source: trust me bro. When the Bible is meant to be taken as symbolism it says this like it did with revelation.
Lol thatâs exactly why there are hundreds of types of Christianity đ they cant even agree among themselves
@@WetbackNoSetback there is a loooooooot of agreement. N we know u come from Satan
There are a few issues with the story:
1. If God is omniscient, he foresaw the fall, so why make the garden at all and put the trees and serpent there?
2. The Jews do not see the serpent as Satan. To the Jews, Satan is an angel of God without being evil. Nor does it make sense to punish all snakes because Satan disguised himself as one. In addition, the text says that the snake is cunning.
Satan does not crawl on his belly in other passages either.
3. God lies when he says people will die if they eat the fruit. The snake tells the truth. And humans couldn't have been immortal before, otherwise the passage doesn't make sense about God being afraid, humans eat the other fruit and become immortal.
God said to adam you will die he said will not straight away. God saw adam dying after eden and when adam got old so God warned adam.
@@A7Xgaz90 Adam would have died anyway. Only if he could eat from the tree of life, he would became immortal.
I LOVE that you did this...you should do one explqining how the Catholic belief of not eating meat on Friday has to do with a sheep shortage but abundance of fish which leads to the common misconception that Fish isnt considered meat in the Catholic faith
Actually the no meat eating on friday was because the pope owed some fishermen(or was bribed it is a bit blurry). So the pope said that no meat on Friday except fish
@@blaineburnett5964 that is part of the whole truth yes you are right however the pope intentionally bought into the fishermen just prior into making it law. The origination is die to a "meat" shortage at the time in the churches primary area of influence.

LOVED this video. The crazy thing is that Iâve come to so many of these conclusions by approaching the Bible and science as complementary- after all, our pursuit of scientific discovery was originally Godâs instruction to mankind.
But I do find it ironic that, in an animated format for a video themed around âthings the church donât want you to know,â you represented Adam and Eve as Caucasian. đđ
What's wrong with Adam and eve being caucasians. Are you trying to say they weren't caucasians? Do you have a problem with white people?
The Catholics teach that science and religion are exactly that, complementary to one another. We understand and believe the concept of evolution but that doesn't mean we are anti-creation. We know that many stories were parables to teach us about something and not take it literally.
"Apple" was just a slang term for "fruit." There's one guy who says it was a pomegranite, since it's consequences were much like that of a grenade.
đ
Grenades weren't a thing when this whole stuff was written. So what you said linking pomegranate to grenades makes no sense in this context.
@@TetraSky "Grenade" is French for "Pomegranite." They named the bomb after the fruit, because all the fragments reminded people of pomegranite seeds.
Incidentally, this is also why pomegranite syrup is called "grenadine."
Seeing as they dressed themselves in fig leaves, my guess is that if it was anything known (presuming this completely unique tree didn't have completely unique fruit), it was a fig.
The Quran tells the same story and the type of tree/fruit was never mentioned.
This was an amazing video!
While there were a few points in this video where the you talk about what the most wildly held beliefs are when it comes to interpretations, you did fail to provide a source which can bring problems in these discussions so i wish you had provided some.
Additionally, i wish you had spoken on the whole time thing and how, when taking relativity into account, both literal and figurative interpretations on the statements about time still fit together nicely.
That being said, for what you had time to cover, this is one of the best videos on these topics i have ever seen.

The reason why it is depicted as an apple is because in Malum means apple in latin but it also has a double meaning as evil, therefore when the garden is painted and depicted its pictured as an apple.

Revelation 22:7, KJV: Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
I believe the verse you're talking about is Revelation 2:7
Also, Genesis 2:9, KJV: And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the TREE OF LIFE also in the midst of the garden, and the TREE OF KNOWLEGDE OF GOOD AND EVIL.
2 separate trees that God is referring to.
Genesis 2:16-17 KJV: And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
From the creation of man, they were never supposed to die, thus God not allowing them to eat from the TREE OF LIFE. Thus when they ate from the tree that was the day that started their death.
Rev 2:7 is referring to the same TREE OF LIFE when the "victorious", is in the paradise(heaven) of God. Since they are in the paradise of God therefore there is no longer any death. Just like in the Garden of Eden.
In 3030, New Heaven and New Earth will arrive and former things are passed away đ„°
As a lifelong Christian and someone who has read the Bible through several times in different translations, I would like to compliment you on the job you did here. Many, though not all, of the conclusions you came to here are the same ones I came to myself, mostly by myself, from reading the texts over and over and trying to juxtapose that between symbolism practices in teachings at the time of authorship, and also trying to rectify science and spirituality.
I'd have to talk to you for at least another 80 hours to know if I agree with what you think about the subject as a whole, but I appreciate the job you did on this portion of it. Happy Easter!

I like to believe that the fruit of the Tree of knowledge of Good and evil is Knowledge in and of itself. Much like the hammer of Thor, Mjolnir, "Tis a tool to build, or a weapon to destroy." We have the capability to end world hunger but what do we do with the knowledge we have attained? We instead choose to split atoms, smashing them together to create new particles and such.
Amazing video guys. Love the Copan references!
the tree of life is different from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. so revelation 22:7 doesn't necessarily mean that God was some point going to allow them to eat from the tree of knowledge. (not saying was or wasn't) just that revelation 22:7 is talking about the tree of life not the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The problem with changing Religion just so to calm down the sceptics is that the sceptics and the disbelievers take it as further signs that Religion is man made and not divine while those who actually believe tend to start having doubts and become disillusioned because all the things they held dear as being the ultimate divine truth got changed or even discarded ..Because the people who have done the most disservice to Religion are the ones who made it their mission to spread Religion. It because a game of numbers rather than path to salvation and eternal prosperous bliss. They started tweaking religion just so that more people would accept the faith and in the process totally destroyed the faith.
Religion was meant for individualâs salvation not because God needed more followers but because Man needs God. Unfortunately humans sacrificed the divine just to gain personal followers and supporters or in other words Fame, Influence and Power..
Religion is a myth and gods dont exist
You just don't question religion because questioning religion is questioning God and as mere mortal, we do not get to question God

Although Adam and Eve were literally people , everything else in this was on point
There is also no contradiction between Genesis 1 ,2 3 , between the timeline of Adam's creation and the Animals , because in chapter 2 God was simple restating that he created animals from the ground , and created the seeds and birds of the air , there was no reference to timing in the second chapter. Word "Then" was never used ..so verse doesnt not signify a before or after , Genesis 2 simple restates something God already did.

It's all about picking and choosing what's literal, what isn't, and how you want to interpret what's in the Bible. That's the beauty of this old book. It means whatever you want it to mean. If science proves something false, then it's not supposed to be taken literal. It's only literal until science proves it wrong.

The first advice I can give anyone is if you have not read the Bible for yourself you should really consider reading it. You will find that the Bible says that With God all things are possible. When you read the word of God it is up to each individual if they choose to believe it or not. But you will also come across a passage that will tell you that most people are not entering into the kingdom of God when they die. Because without faith it is impossible to please God. "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal."( 2 corinthians 4:18)
I agree and had to start reading the entire Bible myself as well. Most so called âChristiansâ now days never even read the Bible so they have no understand of anything đ€·ââïž
There were two schools of thought. The Alexandrian school, Origin, was heavily influenced by Gnostic Greek Philosophy. They used an allegorical approach to theology, note Originâs interpretation of the Good Samaritan. They believed the basic interpretation was overly simplistic and Scripture had a higher allegorical interpretation. We see this allegorical interpretation a lot in the Catholic Church. By the way, Origin would have been considered heretical by almost any Christian today.
The Antioch school was much more literal in their interpretation. These were made up of the Jewish Christians that fled the fall of Judea. Their interpretation became much more popular during the Reformation with Luther and Calvin.
By the way, B. B. Warfield changed his evolution views as he aged. Genesis one is about the creation of the world. Genesis two is about the creation of the Garden of Eden on day six. God did not âteachâ Adam how to make clothes. God made the first sacrifice that points to the sacrifice of Christ.
ok messianic
Thereâs a problem I have with this. When defined on Blue Letter Bible, known for having word for word translations of the Bible, have shown that the term âdayâ meant very literally âdayâ as in a 24 hour time period.
Well a day for God and a day for us is totally different. Time was literally created by men. You could say 10,000 years for God could be 1 day. Remember we shouldnât take Genesis literal from scripture. Remember it was written for people who wouldnât understand time like we do now.
@@migueldejesus1817 a day for god would depend on where he existed , if he existed on earth , the period would be the same , but yeah I agree that not all scriptures should be interpreted literally
It says somewhere else that 1 day is 1000 days in heaven and 1000 days in heaven is 1 day on earth. So I don't think time works the same way

This was a great video! As a logical thinker i have struggeld in my faith when trying to make my own view and adaptation of the bible. You really pur things into perspective for me!
The trick is to just label anything that is wrong as symbolic and everything that is not as literal. It must be nice to believe in a religion, but if you really are a decent logical thinker, then I think you need to not think about it, as there are too many arguments against religion to keep believing it. Like, what proves your religion is the right one?
Most if not all contradictions and illogical things in this story are resolved in the Muslims' version of Adam and Eve's story narrated in the Quran. For example, the tree is not for knowledge, it is just a test and rehearsal to know how deceptive satan is. The humans going down to earth was planned since the beginning and not as a punishment we still inherit. Actually, God forgave Adam for that mistake he made. Hence, no salvation through Jesus is needed, no one is punished for something he didn't do, and God is all merciful.

1st, as I see the Documentary Hypothesis in a favorable light, I tend to see the first few verses of Gen. 2 as belonging at the end of Gen. 1. Second, the word usually translated as day can also mean a longer period of time, such as an eon. Third, specific nouns describing animals are actually much vaguer than usually translated. That being said, Gen. 1 fits the currently accepted Cosmological Timeline quite nicely.

Somewhere along the line, Christianity accepted many paganistic things like Christmas celebrations and Apples of eden. You see, IĂ°unn is the name of the Norse Goddess of youth and apples. Her apples grant etternal youth which along the way of the Christening and oppresion of the Norwegian and their pagan religion, it was adopted. "Youth" was then exchanged for "vitality" and it became Eternal Life so in terms, Eden wasnt a place, it was a literal garden of a goddess named IĂ°unn or Idun who provided apples to the norse gods. Many cultures have similar stories but due to the amount of Paganistic practices in Christianity, i'm gonna go with the "let me borrow your homework" one
I married a Jewish guy a few years back and he was from religious community originally.
The things I learned from him were mind blowing. So many differences yet so many similarities. Christians have literally changed most of the story from what it was in Judaism and itâs so wild to see.
Could you cite some examples? Or is there a source for this? Sounds very interesting. Thanks for that comment.
@@alext8828 they actually stated some in the video. But Christianâs tend to not mention Adamâs first wife, or the fact that the Garden was never on earth.
Another one is the sabbath, or Shabbat in Judaism. Itâs on a Friday in Judaism but on a Sunday in Christianity.
Lucifer is another one. I nicknamed my sister in laws dog that and nobody knew what I was talking about. They have âSa-Tanâ in Judaism but itâs not an evil Angel like we describe Lucifer.
@@Sk8ngInDuval BTW, there's a lot to be questioned here. Is it the Hindus that seem to have recorded battles in the sky? And see if all this seems to fit in with the idea of Cargo Cult. I believe there's a strong argument for that.
â@@Sk8ngInDuval Finally, someone else acknowledges the difference between Satan and Lucifer.
Look, I dropped my faith in Christianity some years ago. I follow more paganistic traditions and adopted a polytheistic perspective using an omnist system that incorporates the Egyptian, Greek/Roman and Norse pantheons, But Satan is NOT the evil or bad fellow The Church has made him out to be. Lucifer is the one to not get too engaged with. Satan (known better in some circles as Baphomet, see the Church of the Satanic Temple as a prolific example) is actually a fairly laid back individual and has a long fuse when it comes to anger issues. He's one of those that would take joy in a conversation by a campfire over a couple of beers. (He appreciates the message the Satanic Temple is trying to convey but would have preferred to not have his name and face connected to it - and yes that's his aaaactual face)
Lucifer, and a known 'relative' of his that I have a name for (Not the 'actual' name, just an answered-to name), that should be avoided at all costs. A thing about names: If you have their true name, you have power over them. The names we know them by here are 'chosen' names, for the sake of credit and identity. But without putting themselves into a compromising position. I have the actual name to one so-called 'demon' (That's another topic all together) as provided to me by his mother in times of emergency, very friendly to me and most, but like the rest of us, has a line you just don't cross -- I'm one of those lines -- and you think he's scary, his mother frightens me more than the child does - but I'm close with this family, so unless I blatantly go against them as treason, I'm in pretty good hands.
(also I did ask, yes the fiddle battle in Georgia happened, yes he lost, that was planned the entire time because he can't play the fiddle anyway, he just wanted to have some fun with a local and give him a story to tell -- he did eventually get the fiddle back by way of a loophole once the victor passed away - He plans to do it again in the future and kind of make a tradition of it with a different instrument elsewhere in the world)
Because you married a Jewish guy. We should believe your claim.
For most of my religious life, I've believed (and still do) that evolution and creationism actually work in concert with each other. I always subscribe to the one scripture of a day as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day, or something like that.

This is awesome! as a christian I always thought that genesis (Adam and Eve) was basically just like you say here. :)
In what bible does revalations 22:7 say that, so far in the three bibles i looked at it said nothing close to what it says in the video at 7:14

Don't you think that the forbidden fruit that they both eat was the fruit of knowledge, so they probably knew these things.
Thanks for making this video, TIS! I think this is a great and fair interpretation of the book of genesis, but I think it's also important to note that this is but one theory on Adam and Eve. I think that whether you believe in Adam and Eve as the first humans ever without evolution, a pair of humans chosen from humans, or fully mythical, you can still feel comfortable knowing you are being faithful to scripture.
As you noted, genesis was written to an early culture and as many things in the Old Testament are, may not be fully literal. Especially when it comes to numbers and literal days. Thank you for being nuance to the conversation.
Anyone watching this, I would encourage you not to see the Bible and science as opposed as much as retain interpretations being opposed. God's word is true, and if you seek him out, he will be faithful to you.

Correction please: the video time stamp 7:05; Rev 22:7 is referring to the second tree which God says He did not want Adam to "put out his hand and take also" So He drove them out of the garden. Gen 3:22-24.
So looks to me that there is a disconnect in what you said about the plan of God was. ie to let them eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil when they were mature enough.

As a literalist Christian I appreciate how well you presented this video from the Christian perspective, despite being a secular channel. I think it's noble and important when we tell stories or facts, especially when we don't necessarily advocate them, to be fair and objective and keep our personal opinions out of it. Of course people are welcome to have and share their opinions, but that's more well-suited for a discussion not a presentation. So kudos. Lol.
My view on evolution is this, Adam and Eve were made as adults, but if you you looked at their DNA, it would appear that they were born as babies and grew to be adults; so it's possible that while creation happened in a short time that the evidence would show a long time, if that simply was the elongated version that was sped up.
Now my unpopular second opinion is that I don't really consider macro-level evolution evident enough to find it necessary to believe it, but I accept those who do believe it, and there's no reason that it contradicts the Bible anyhow. Broader evolutionary theory is a constantly changing science that requires some leaps and assumptions. One could argue that evolution requires faith as well. Science and facts change all the time after all (albeit there are self-evident absolute truths also). But I admit it is true that some parts of the Bible are more metaphorical than others, also. So I could be wrong but fortunately I don't think it really matters that much who's right or wrong about this topic. Hehe.

If you want evidence of evolution, take a look at viruses, which evolve very quickly. Where do you think the Omicron variant came from?
@@ianshaver8954 he said macroevolution not microevolution
Evolution process is extremely slow - sum of tiny DNA changes over 100s of thousands of generations. Asking the question "Who was the first human?" is as absurd as asking "How old were you when you were growing up?", or "Who was the first person to fully speak French?".
A theory explains a process based on evidence at hand. Theories can be modified, updated, or rejected based on new evidence. Fossil & DNA evidence prove evolution to be a fact & the evolution theory explains how it works.

How many times do you think I have to repeat the same fact before religious folks start to use their brain and think to realize that their religious stories were all made up?
Whatever faith tradition you prescribe to, or are lacking, I find it incredibly interesting to those who say that The Genesis account is not history. Only very liberal Rabbis and some liberal Pastors/Priests say that it is allegorical.
However, the main point I would like to make is that the Judeo/Christian/Islamic faith traditions trace their ancestry directly back to Abraham. Abraham is specifically listed in a genealogy dating back to Adam.
Scriptural history aside, I find it amazing that Genesis said that we have one male ancestor, and one female ancestor.
Fast forward a quite a few thousand years with modern technology and science, and well isn't that interesting!?!?
Modern science has proven through mitochondrial DNA that we have a genetic Eve, and through chromosomal DNA has proven a common male ancestor as well.
So how would a stone age tribe even know or begin to have this concept? Because they always knew. It was an oral tradition started with those first humans. Now proven by science. Incredible!
Really it is just a story about the loss of innocence. Something all children go through in growing up.
