"Everything In Quotes"
Virgil Abloh
Response by Michael Rock
Virgil Abloh is a longtime creative consultant to Kanye West and the founder of the award-winning luxury fashion label Off-White™. The Chicago-based designer received his Masters of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology and his undergraduate in Civil Engineering at the University of Madison-Wisconsin. His design for the West Loop restaurant Honey's has been lauded as one of the best new restaurants in Chicago in 2016. In 2015 Off-White™ was nominated as one of the top eight finalists for the LVMH Prize in Paris. Abloh was named in the BOF 500 "The People Shaping The Global Fashion Industry" List and nominated for one of the top five nominees in the category of International Urban Luxury Brand at The British Fashion Awards in 2016. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for Album Packaging for his creative direction of the 2011 album "Watch the Throne" by Kanye West and Jay Z.
Virgil is a genius from everything he did at pyrex to the evolvement to Off-white
Virgil Abloh is one of the greatest minds of our days, as a teenager I look up to how he articulates his ideas and how his sentences are complex yet so easy to understand. Anything he creates is his mind concentrated on something he has thought.
Watching this makes you respect the artist
As an architecture student in Chicago (UIC) who is heavily influenced by fashion and culture, it makes me incredibly happy and motivated to learn that Virgil was an architect undergrad.
Unbelievable talk that will speak to something within anyone that has a desire for creativity and expressing themself
I am now obsessed with Virgil Abloh.
As someone who has so many thoughts and ideas constantly running through my head in wanting to start a clothing line, but not having any idea on how to turn it into reality, this presentation just makes me even more frustrated. In a good way though.
Greg no shade, how old r u?
God this was amazing
Thankful for Virgil from a distance. I needed this. Thank you
gives me life.
Love the vision, incredible inspiration. I would love to have him as a mentor.
virgil, your clothes arent bad. they are okay. some better than others. but your presentation and execution is amazing. the way everything is presented is important and i feel like youve nailed that. Your clothes could use more work, but in time you may get better. excited to see where OFF WHITE goes in terms of garments.
MrMehad6 he's improved a lot since 2013
I think Off-White is one of the more important brands for the fashion industry at the moment. He's blurring the line between streetwear and luxury fashion. He's building a whole new market for streetwear, and he's making streetwear the only fashion genre that appeals to both the middle class and the rich.
He's breaking barriers with Off-White.
Such a resemblance to Kanye. You can see the visions that they have in order to make an impact. Both Kanye and Virgil dream and imagine into the future and most of the time they are right. We can say that these guys dominate their area respectfully.
Liam Griffin - implying an artist who uses words for a living cant articulate his ideas😂😂
inspiring to all those kids who did a 30 day free trial on illustrator, screen printing shirts for themsleves stating there a designer.
thank you virgil
damn this comment section is ripe with so much inspiration + appreciation for virgil's presentation of ideas/images/designs ~ thanks for posting this talk, much needed :)
Kudos to Virgil! I love the shirts. I still have my Champion X Pyrex Religion tee.
I love seeing stuff like this its rare to see Virgil talk live, this guy is for the future
this probably saved my life
Is there a transcript of the lecture somewhere? I want to print it and stick to the wall of my college room. Virgil is God, now, for me.
45:48
52:52 if you wanna skip the introduction and straight to Virgil Abloh talking
glad I found this
calling off white x ikea as the collab he was referencing
Between Supreme and Celine
Could you translate this in french or make subtitles ? I cannot understand everything

Really insightful
Interesting lecture, definitely have earned respect for Virgil considering his methodology and thought-processes when creating.
The kids on Prince and Mercer in 2017 are rich... That's what it seems Virgil doesn't seem to acknowledge. Those kids (in 2017) aren't tastemakers or culture creators, they are on the outside looking down on them.
16:05 referring to raf's comments at off-white?
1:06 mark - Storytelling - inspiring perspective
That was beautiful
also, fucking wow for including an excerpt from the l8 + gr8 John Berger

Goyard wallet
These fashion designers don't want Kanye an Virgil in their lane they're too comfortable In their positions RAF talked his shit on off white now watch the universe work in Virgil's favor Givenchy knocking at the door
I wish he would have been able to make Pyrex into what off white is, would've been way bigger in my opinion.
