    Just picked up a used lefty version of this guitar and couldn't be more thrilled with how it sounds and plays. It's really an excellent value especially now that the cutaways are only in the 200 series and higher.
    Thanks for the review! You helped me pull the trigger on the best acoustic I've ever had. Great, great player. Love the neck.

    That sounds good man. I actually like the Taylor electric system. I know there are some who don’t but I think it sounds more true to tone than most under-saddle pickups

    I have the 114ce special edition. It has a high gloss finish. Couldn't be happier with it. It plays so much easier compared to the cheap acoustics I owned in the past. I never really liked acoustics because of that, and thought that acoustic were just hard to play. This guitar proved me wrong!
    This thing is so good, it will probably be my acoustic for life. since I mainly play electric.

    I really enjoyed the guitar playing in this video. This review illustrates the (excellent) bass response of the 114 series better than any other I've seen on CZcams. Well done. I have a walnut 114e (no cutaway) and I love it.

    I live in India and picked up the guitar when I was in Seattle last year. The guitar sounds amazing , but the humidity is unmanageable here. I keep it in a hard case and try to regulate the humidity but now I see that the bridge has just begun peeling off - I showed it to a local music store - he said that I should play it till it gets really bad.
    I also do encounter minor jarring sounds while playing closed chords up the fretboard - 9th Fret onwards. I am working on the fretboard by adjusting the truss rod to see if it’s an humidity issue.
    Another thing that I have noted is that one or two strings continue to vibrate for a long time after the open chord is played.
    Apart from these issues, the guitar is awesome and sounds really great when plugged in :)

    • @soumyahere5251
      @soumyahere5251 Před 5 lety

      Im also from India. And now in Europe. I tried this guitar today in a shop and just loved it over martins (below 1500€ bucket). Is the humidity factor a showstopper when i get this back to India??!! M really worried now! (Even if kept in hard flight case)?

    • @christysunny
      @christysunny Před 5 lety

      Hi Soumya, I live in Kolkata which is pretty humid. Where do you live in India ? If you live in a place like Bangalore or Pune it should just be fine. If it’s a dry place you can buy humidifiers to ensure that the instrument is within the prescribed 45-50% RH range. Also if you can keep it in an AC room then it won’t have an issue anywhere in India :)

    • @christysunny
      @christysunny Před 5 lety

      Ahhh Kolkata seems to be a tricky place for the taylors and martins - that’s what I have also heard from Braganza - the music store in Kolkata. But if you are planning to cope with the humidity with AC and proper temperature regulation mechanisms , it
      should work just fine :)

    • @christysunny
      @christysunny Před 5 lety

      Also I haven’t played the Martin DRS1 , so wouldn’t be able to guide you there :) at the end of the day it’s your decision in terms of the sound and playability

    Looks like you got lucky too; the backs and sides look very nice on your's as well and I like the lighter stripe going right down the middle of your Spruce top. I don't know about you but I've found it hard to find a 114ce where the particular Walnut pieces of wood used to make the laminate back and sides of the guitar doesn't look like furniture wood. Walnut can be very a beautiful wood to use to make guitars but it's hard to find something really unique and interesting in Walnut, in my opinion; but I guess that's just about true for any tone wood. I didn't know what to look for when I bought my 2012 114ce - it was my first acoustic guitar - so it's not book matched very well; especially on the Sapele back and the top was too light in color at the time for me to capture the attention of my fastidious eye. That said, it's still really beautiful with it's balanced bear claw markings in the Spruce top. I don't think I'll sell it.

  • @cloutdoors5674

    Your video was a big reason why I ordered my 114e. Mine is without the cutaway. I love the shape and sound of the auditorium body. My only complaint is regarding visual esthetics. Mine has little marks on the top wood. One very noticeable one right next to the sound hole. It's does bug me a little bit on a $800 guitar, especially because I have never seen these marks even on the cheaper Taylor's like big baby or an Academy or a gs mini, certainly not on any 300 series or higher. So why did they decide to snub the 100 series when it comes to cosmetics. I don't mind the barebones look of the satin finish with no gloss, I actually prefer it. But the little imperfections on the top wood to me is not right on a $800 guitar. Hell my $200 Yamaha is flawless as far as looks go. Cmon Taylor

    I have the 114e and I love it. I went between the 114e, 114ce and 214ce. You are right the 114 series sounds way better than the 214. The Koa just sounded a little too bright. The 114 has way better bottom end and has a better balance over all. Great video!

  • @lateralus9244
    @lateralus9244 Před 5 lety

    I just recently bought one of these but the woodgrain pattern in the Walnut on mine looks like Rosewood - but without the reddish hue to the color. The back of the neck has a very distinctive, very detailed woodgrain pattern that looks super amazing! And the Spruce top has several slightly bending 3/4 inch variegation lines that they make their way down toward the lower bout; it's really beautiful. I got super lucky to find this one! Originally, I had a lefty version of this 114ce guitar from the 2012 era with Sapele back and sides but my new right handed Walnut 114ce sounded way way way better! I recently installed a Micarta saddle on my old 2012 lefty and this really helped to bring out the bass a bit more and some of the other tones. Next I will switch back to Elixir strings and then compare them again. I am hoping that it will sound just as good (or almost just as good) but maybe just a little bit different because of the Sapele.

    You should have bought a Merida Extrema Poison ce instead. I have both and the Merida compares well to any Martin, Gibson etc.. ever made. Around 1200. and all solid wood. Engleman AAA Spruce top and solid rosewood back and sides plus the electronics are much better. The guitar is beautiful too. Seriously no comparison even with high end Taylors.
