Just got one yesterday love it!
Crash is always my go to test for an acoustic. Great channel! And hello from Baton Rouge. Just subbed
I began my guitar journey with a 114e... so glad I did.
Which acoustic guitar is best in your opinion
There’s also the GS Minis and the Academy series they just launched. If you haven’t had a chance to play the Academy yet, please check them out. Wonderful sounding guitars and they play well. Price is right too. Cheers, Jeremy. Love when a new video drops!
The soundhole edge will not always tell you if it is a solid top or not. As a guitar maker, I always make solid soundboards, but I reinforce the soundhole with a perpendicular grain “donut”, 1mm thick. Looking at the edge, it may seem it is a laminated top, when it is not 😉
I have one of these . It's amazing . I had more money to spend . I played many many Taylor's and Martins that cost more . I wanted a 214 but they did not play as well and I came back to my 114ce several times . I have had it 3 years now and it;s still a perfect guitar . Good episode . New supporter . I like your channel .
"Praise and worship kinda jangely, strummy" Lol..
Like your style Jeremy !!
I grew up hearing my father's opinions of guitars and of course accepted that as written in stone. But he was a Martin guy. Anything else was trying to get there. But through my experience I've found like yourself great sounding guitars come in many brands and styles. Great video 👍
Hey Jeremy, I bought a 114 for a throw down. I owned a 1976 D-28 and a EC 000-28 at the time. I had to sell the Martins at one point. But the 114 has never disappointed me. Great sound, easy to fret and great price.
i will buy 114ce tomorrow, and your video was great for me. Im from Argentina and is very expensive to me, but i think it will be a verry good experience play it. So thanks for the video!!
Llegaste a comprarla? Qué tal el sonido igual que la del video?
Great guitar video
I had the Taylor 100e and live in the Las Vegas desert, the lamminet back and sides hold up good here..
I, like you, am a Martin fanatic. I've had 3 HD-28's. When I lost them due to financial troubles and started on the path back up, I found the Taylor 310 series. NO other Taylor sounded good to me. I've had 2, 310SE's (Cutaways) and now have a 310 non SE and non cutaway. Love the guitar, but one day I WILL have another HD-28 again. They sounded more "Neil Young" than most of the D-35's I've heard. (Except the lacquer "spider" cracked one I had and loved.) Peace!
I am a beginning guitar player at age 67. So far I have 3 amazing sounding acoustic guitars. I bought a used Taylor 114e - it looks new though. Sounds great and it stays in tune better than my other two acoustics. I picked up a used Seagull s6 and I love the sounds coming off that solid cedar top. Then very recently I went into a guitar store to look around (bad idea unless you got money to spend - lol) and freaking fell in love with a Gibson j45 studio. Gorgeous solid walnut back and sides and solid spruce top! It's a realy beauty! Bought it and absolutely love it. Do I have buyers remorse? mmm...sometimes but it goes away whenever I play my Gibson j45 studio. So here I am late in life experiencing the feelings you described in your video here. Even though I am a beginner I feel that love and pleasure of strumming a "bad ass" guitar as you put it.
Yeah, never pick up a Gibson J45 unless you want an empty wallet or a broken heart. :)
I’ve heard you say several times how much you appreciate Taylor’s vision. I agree to the best guitars might still be out there. I’ve owned three Taylor’s and all were great instruments-a 420 Koa, and 2 512’s, which were two of the most beautiful small bodies I have ever heard. However, one objection I have about Taylor is how they’ve changed from putting great instrument in the hands of as many [people as possible to being just like everyone else-seeing how much they can charge and make as much profit as possible. Normally that wouldn’t be so bad, but Bob et.al. Started as typical hippies who thought, just like Ben & Jerry (ice Cream) that the system was selfish and greedy. When they started making money, apparently they thought it was okay to join the ranks of the greedy. They prided themselves that the 314 and 414 were solid wood guitars that were still available for under $1000. That was the late 1990’s. Even though there has been some inflation, there is no reason why a used 16 year old 314 goes for $1400, in my opinion. After all, it’s not even real mahogany, being sapele. Right now, as a worship leader, I’d love another Taylor, maybe a 414CE, but I just can’t justify it when a used Larrivee is a much better value.
FYI, I have a Guild F-65 thin acoustic body guitar. It is a solid maple top, back, and sides. There is no inner bracing on the back of the body.
The only Taylor I owned was a 214CE.
I went off it quite quickly.
I play my Yamaha LJ16 ARE all soild wood brillant and great sustain but may be I return and will buy Taylor 114.
I checked one of these last Friday with walnut back n sides. I loved it from the very first strum. now i am down to 2 guitars to pick one - Taylor 114ce spruce/walnut and martin drs1... Jeremy, could u help me with any lead? Cheers!
Tough choice they are both great guitars . My 114 ce is amazing . Good luck pal
arched back does not always mean laminted back and sides , and besides which the easiest way to find all this info out is the look up the specs of the guitar online tops can also be deciving as well
It would have to be a carved back. To the best of my knowledge, you can't bow a back with a stream box. I'm not a luthier, but that's what I've heard from Huss and Dalton.
@@JeremySheppard well here is the scope eastman gibson and the John Buscarino Cabaret. and a few others have made guitars with soild arched backs so huss and dalton are wrong it would seem how ever the majority of guitars with arched backs are laminated its alot cheaper to make them laminated then to use solid wood .. but none the less many companys do use soild wood for arched backs but you will pay top dollar for such guitars
I always wanted a Koa Taylor. I picked up a 214ce K Dlx. It sounds amazing. So easy to play.
I picked up my old Takamine, solid back and side,s and I am blown away at how dead it sounds. Used to love it, now I don't want to play it. 😂
Me too! Or one of the GS mini koas!
I’d take a Taylor over a Martin all day.
Totally ... it simply RESONATES.
Jeremy, Taylor Does NOT laminate the back and sides. They LAYER them. There is a huge difference. All of the layers are mahogany vs laminated which uses a type of plywood center core. Call and ask them if you dont believe me. This is what makes them taylors. They are all made well. Check out the 214-CEK Koa. Its amazing!
In terms of quality is this guitar good? And is the back naturally arched?
Ghost Face1129 the back is arched because it’s laminate. It’s a great and comfortable guitar.
Great song choice...I assume you knew Dave Matthews played a Taylor for about 12 years. He plays Rockbridge (Charlottesville) now. Have you ever played one? They're awesome (& very pricey).
I've played many and love Brian Calhoun, he has an amazing touch.
What gauge strings do you put on this? I have one.
What?! Fishman pickup with the Expression system?! Is that a thing? What I know is that those are two different brands of pickup.
By the way you point ay the guitar and say those words I assume you mean that it has an under-saddle type of pick up with expression system? Is that right?
Torn between this and the 214e. Worth paying extra for such similar quality and specs?
I think so, they're great. Try and find a used one.
Holy shit that was the Dave song I forgot about and forgot to play thanks for reminding me 😂
P.S. never mind I went to my guitar and remembered how to play it
Hey Jeremy quick question I recently found a acoustic guitar for sale but I’ve never heard of the name maybe you can give me some insight on this guitar it says on the label inside the soundhole that it’s made by Recco unfortunately I’ve never ever heard of this name what can you give me on any info please ?!!
Never heard of them. Grecco was an import brand, maybe a copy of a copy? Haha. I'll check the price guide.
I went from thrash to a 114 ce , wow these things ring like a bell ,don’t pass these up for the money 👍
What are your thoughts on the Martin xseries? I’ve owned a couple and I’m really impressed. I really don’t like the Taylor expression system personally, I feel like the acoustic sound is great but the expression system never gives me the same tone
I don't like the X Series because of the HPL back and sides. The road series and the one series are great. I think the D2R from the early 90s is the best guitar Martin has made below their standard series.
The x series aren't horrible but they aren't very good. The quality is very poor and requires a ton of humidification. If you don't humidify it often it will do all sorts of things. Bend, crack, warp and the body will sink in.
I have to respectfully disagree. My Guild JF30(1992) has an arched laminate back and no bracing but the sides are solid maple. My D4NT is the same except it's mahogany. Guild actually used this formula on many models especially during the Westerly era. I do agree that an arched back is more than likely a laminate but it does not necessarily mean the sides are also laminate in all cases.
You're right! I forgot about solid sides.
@@JeremySheppard Do you own any older Guilds? I think they're very underrated. I really enjoy your channel btw.
My plywood back has braced
What is the custom tele?
The white guitar is a Rude Revelator Custom in full hollow with PAF style hums. The pink tele is an 85 Japanese Fender.
1 11/16 in neck
@jeremytheguitarhunter, just found and bought a Zager Zad 15 parlor with hard case for $40.... it plays freaking amazing
Taylor now they dont use fishman pickups saddle! That is the EST pickup.
I rather buy a Yamaha A3R for the same price, all solid guitar with rosewood back and sides and scalloped bracing
I recently picked up a Taylor 114ce off reverb for $500. It is the lowest action, fastest playing guitar I've ever played. Huge bargain for the money.
Wowza! Great work.
I don't really like Taylor Guitars; i only owned 1 Taylor it only cost 5,000.00......i'm sorry
