You know that guy who loves to boast that they are the best at something, but when you challenge them to prove it they fall flat on their face? That’s Skydio.
I have over 165k invested in our work fleet. Most consists of DJI products. We are moving to skydio and some built in house stuff running PixHawks now. Getting DJI's "radiometric" outputs to work with industry standard software like FLIR thermal studio is an exercise in pain. If memory serves only the first generation Mavic Enterprise can even produce an actual radiometric jpeg. All the following versions require DJI's proprietary garbage. The Skydio isn't magic but at least it works reliably and I can actually get a technician into a chat that has used one IRL to create a deliverable.
The concept of DFR (Drone as First Responder) should be inclusive of all drones, not limited to a specific brand. This company appears to prioritize profit over community well-being. Before making a purchase, inquire why they choose to destroy trade-ins instead of contributing to the thousands of volunteer departments nationwide with zero funding. It's crucial to question their commitment to the broader public safety community.
Furthermore, ask them to validate the origin of some X10 components at $25 K plus training.... Transparency about the sourcing of their parts is essential, so ask them to prove it... This company's actions, especially in Florida, suggest a focus on grounding DFR if it's not their brand!! so mush for the DFR statement at the onset... Many public safety agencies are affected, and unfortunately, this trend might spread to more states thanks to this companies greed. It's essential for consumers to be aware of these practices and question the company's commitment to the broader public safety community.
i agree. I heard they are one of the many drone companies in America (maybe even the primary one) that is lobbying the government to ban DJI drones which are currently the best in the business and is far superior and well established in DFR and SAR in America. In fact, many of these departments are sad and in shocked that they may have wasted money to stocking on several DJI drones for their operations. IMO, that is quite lame and very unsportsmanlike for Skydio.
