Great video - so many cruisers assume that Rome is a stones-throw away from the cruise port, which just isn't the reality. Yes, it's possible to see Rome from a cruise, but you really won't see much. By the time we got into the Vatican, it was time to think about heading back to the ship - better than nothing, I guess...!!
This is my favorite video of the ones I have seen. Thank you.
So far the 2024 Civitavecchia Express is still not available on Port Mobility's website. Also it didn't say the 6 euro bus fare is included either, even in its 2023 description.
Interesting! Thanks for this - great meeting you the other day in front of your house! Please consider TravelDrivers for your transportation needs and those of your followers. Take good care!
Great Video! You answered soooo many of my questions and the pics were very helpful. Do you know how close Uber Black can get?
Thank you for the kind words. I believe Uber Black can only make it to the port gates.
which taxi company goes directly to the port
We arrive the Civitavecchia station with the 6 Euro bus ticket and stood in the sun for 2 hours waiting for the bus. Only bus is exclusive for Norwegian and MSC every 45 minutes. There is no buts to the port entrance. Most people give up by walking to the gate for 30 minutes 0.8 miles or take a taxi. Even at the gate, we have to wait another 45 minutes go get transported inside the port to a tent 0.4 miles from berth 12e.
We just finished joining a cruise from Rome ( Civitavecchia) in August 2023. Do not buy the 6 Euro bus ticket to the port bus, there is no bus take you to the gate and there is no one you can ask questions. We stood in the hot sun for 2 hours and no bus. The white bus comes every 40 minutes and only go the Norwegian and MSC ships. Most people have to walk the 0.8 miles with luggage to the gate or share a high price taxi for the 10 minute ride to the gate. At the gate, you have to wait another 45 minutes to board a bus to your ship. What a mess.
WOW, good to know about taking the bus to the port with some issues! Thanks for the tips!
Great video! Learning so much. Just have a few questions. The BIRG ticket you recommended is a round trip ticket from Civitavecchia cruise port to Roma Termini and back? and can only be bought at the train station counter and not on the Trenitalia app? This also include Metro for both Line A & B and do you need to validate when riding on a Metro?
Hi, there. The BIRG ticket is a regional 1-day pass. It allows unlimited trips in all public transport in the Lazio region within the travel zones stated (for travel between Civitavecchia and Rome you need to cover 5 zones). You have to validate it the first time you use it and fill in the required information; then it is valid until midnight of that day. To use it on the metro, you'll need to insert it into the turnstiles to pass through. It is not available through the Trenitalia website or app. You can buy it at the train station ticket office, and possibly at the kiosk or bar inside the station. As of September 2023, the cost is €12.00. Hope that helps!
I want a physical ticket for a keepsake. I assume that you can buy the BIRG regional pass at the train station in Civitavecchia (?). In that case, though, I wouldn't be able to ride the bus from the cruise port to the train station, would I?
Don’t take the train or bus, if you have at least 4-6 Guests, you can save money on tours, they pick you up at the terminal, walk to all the tourist spots then taxi to the Vatican after Vatican they will take you back to the port. We are doing it again in May. I want to make sure we see everything and make it on the ship on time.
Do you mean tours offered by the cruise lines? Or find tours somewhere else? (heard cruise tours are pricey. Thanks!
Can you elaborate a bit more?
