About us:
In March 2017, Rick and Andrea (confessed Travel Addicts) started a Facebook Group called Travel Addicts as a way to share their travel photos and videos not just with their own respective friend's lists - but with the world. Part of the reason was for bragging rights (I mean, that’s kind of the point of sharing photos, right?), but also to help answer questions to others about the destinations they have visited.
After inviting some of our friends and family, it grew and grew - and as of June 2019, the group has grown to over 200,000 members! One reason for our success, we believe, is that we have done our best to ensure only high-quality photos and videos get shared, all while limiting the use of commercial content.
As of February 2024 it is cash only on the bus
Cash; are US dollars are ok or only euros?
@@Mth308 Euros only however you can buy the ticket on line on. the Trenitalia website
You may want to note for future viewers that the price of the port shuttle went up to 6€ as of the start of 2023. Thanks for all your videos. They are very entertaining and informative, and they relieved a lot of my anxiety about planning our summer trip.
Thank you for the feedback and the comment 🙏
wow, the shuttle costs more than the train! do you know if MSC provides a shuttle? how long is the walk if you decide to do that?
Thank you for this video! Your tips will help for our upcoming cruise in May and will definitely save us money

How long was the shuttle ride from the port to the train station? Our ship docs at 7am, do you think we’ll make the 7:44 train?
@Super123At from where our ship was docked it took about 10 minutes. It all depends on where your ship is
Thank you soooo much! Im going to rome from civitavecchia next march 2024 for my honeymoon (we're going on a cruise) and this video has helped me A LOT!! thank you thank you thank you!!

Hi thanks for posting this, super informative! Do you know when the last shuttle goes to or a rough estimate? We are looking to do a full day in Rome and didn’t want to miss the shuttle! Or if we would be again walking back.
Usually they run until half an hour before the ship leaves the port. But when you go to Rome in the morning just confirm with the driver in case something changes
Thank you so much ❤❤
Thank you 🙏🏻

Thank you for this! We leave for Venice on Friday! After 4 nights there we take the train to Rome and then the port. We already have our tickets. Wondered how hard it will be to change trains in Rome. (Have luggage but nothing too big!) And we have paper tickets so will validate. Then we get on a Viking ship - our first time. Your videos have been so helpful!
Thank you let us know how your journey goes 🙏
Hi , May I ask if what you’re using to ride a train , we’re having a cruise next year and the excursion going to Vatican is so expensive .
Your vlog is informative, thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for the feedback. We are using the trenitalia app
Thanks
Thanks for the video!
Cant seem to find Trenitalia app in apple store here in Canada though. Do you have an app or you purchased through their website?
You can purchase the tickets on the Trenitalia website
Thank you. Does the shuttle take credit cards or we must have Euros?
Thank you again, this video was exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you 🙏 we don’t remember if they take credit cards sorry
This is so informative, thank you! Would you happen to know if you buy a ticket online are you only allowed to take your designated time (listed on your ticket) or can you take an earlier/later train?
Because it is a regional train you can change it
Tickets are validated to cancel them in a machine on each platform allowing flexibility. If you have a unvalidated ticket there are costy fines issued by staff on the trains. If you choose the freccarosa express which are less frequent these are for that train only and dont need validation
Does it have to be "changed" on the app or a ticket counter, or just go to the train, get on and show the ticket? @@TravelAddictsLife
what a helpful video. So glad I found you guys. Will be going to Rome in 6 weeks. Does the shuttle take Credit Card payment (tap as we board) or do we need to get actual Euros from airport exchange to pay?
When we went the shuttle did not take cards, better to bring some cash
Awesome travel channel....a question..I saw one of your videos on Florence with a great outline of things to see, and you mentioned a pdf file that you are offering. Is it possible to get a copy? Thanks
Thank you 🙏 yes you can follow the link in the description of the video to download it
Thank you so much for the information. You make everything look so easy. I have a question, do you need your ticket to get out of the station and if I go into the train station but am going to take the metro to other destinations do I have to have my ticket validated every time.
Thank you for your comment. Regarding your question I am not really sure I understand what you are asking. Basically the train tickets it is only valid on board the train and you do not need it to get out of the station. The subway ticket you need to insert into the machine to open the gate when you go in and out of the metro station.
@@TravelAddictsLife Thank you for your quick response. I think I got it!
The girl at 3:15 😂
❤😂 Love it. Greetings from Poland.🇵🇱
The best, the easiest & the most informative video on the subject! 👍 Thank you! Could you please explain for the first time cruiser, my MSC cruise ship departs at 18:00, the boarding time shown in the MSC for Me App shows 11:00. At what time, the latest I am allowed to show up on the ship if not at 11:00?
Thank you Eduard. Regarding your question you’ll need to ask MSC because every cruise line has different rules
@@TravelAddictsLife Thank you, guys! I have watched many of your videos, they are so informative! Great job, guys! 👍 Could you please advice on how to find and where to stay in Rome on the budget. Thank you in advance! ✌
Eduard U. Hello Eduard we heard that this is a good budget hotel in Rome we haven’t tried it but they told us is good. Tell them that you have heard about them from Readysetitaly.com www.hotelmarcantoniorome.com
I've taken a few trains throughout my travels in Italy. Sometimes it is easy and sometimes not so much with luggage. My question is are the trains from the airport to Civitavecchia easy to board with luggage? Do you just walk on or do you have to climb stairs to board? Also, if I purchase a ticket to Civitavecchia but decide to exit in S. Marinella, does that cause any kind of problem with the train staff? TIA!
The trains from the airport to Termini and from Termini to Civitavecchia have a few steps to climb each. If you buy a ticket to a destination but you get off sooner it is perfectly fine
Thanks for the info, its very informative. We are heading to Rome soon and doing a cruise from Civitavechia Port. I have a couple of questions, firstly, can you buy a ticket from the Port all the way to the Airport (after our cruise) or do you have to get off at Termini and buy a separate ticket? We have also bought a ticket from Venice to Rome Termini later in our travels but need to go on to the airport. I couldn't buy tickets all the way through. Is it easy to find the ticket machines at Termini so we can purchase the last leg to the airport?
Hello there, thank you for your comment. Yes you can buy the ticket in Civitavecchia all the way to Fiumicino. Also the ticket machine are really easy to find at Termini
Thank you for the information... I can't seem to find the Trenitalia app on my iphone... I am currently in Canada... will it show up once I am in Italy?
Unfortunately not you can go on their website to buy tickets
Do you travel with any luggage? I'm mostly worried about luggage storage in the train since I can't carry it over my shoulders if it's an overhead storage.
We usually carry bags with us and we have never had a problem. You can also store the bag in between seats
Fantatsic video - a question - if I purchase a 2nd class ticket on-line - am I guaranteed a seat?
No unfortunately on a local train there are no assigned seats.
Thank you for the video! I was wondering 1. Is it's easy to find the shuttle stop from the train station to the port right when you exit the train station? Or is it still a distance to walk to the shuttle bus? 2. Also is the transfer station from the airport to Civitavecchia called Rome Trastevere or Rome Termini? 3. Is it better to buy the tickets in advance? Is it cheaper that way or the same on the day of? Appreciate your help!
Hello there, the shuttle is very easy to find it is just outside the station. The train from the airport arrives at Termini station. Buying the tickets on line is the same price, it is just more convenient to buy them online
@TravelAddictsLife I'm trying to purchase tickets ahead of time by selecting the date and est time, but I'm getting this warning "You are choosing a travel solution for the day after the specified one." Why is it happening? Am I to select 1 day prior in order to get the right date?
@myomyint1991 which date are you picking?
@TravelAddictsLife Nov. 07, around 8am. Also, how do you check in (validate) if you purchased on the App?
@myomyint1991 if you purchase on the app you don’t need to validate
Did that a couple of weeks ago, find it amazing that you can take the train from Roma Termini that is over an hour ride on the train and it is 4.60 Euros, yet a ride on a bus that is less than 5 miles is 3 euros, that is highway robbery
I am sure it is based on ridership. And you are talking a few dollars not hundreds.
Hi ,question for you…… we are taking the Norwegian epic and we will be in civitavecchia and we want to go to Rome for 8/9 october2023. My question is; at what time do you think it would be reasonable to buy our train tickets, since the boat arrive at 6:30 am. We could take the shuttle or a taxi to the train station in cicitavecchis to rome. So do you know with your experience what delay we should expect forme the ship docking and when we will be able to get off and go take our train. Thanks so so much for your help. I watch every video you make , they are so informative and fun to watch.
Hello there to be on the safe side around 8 am would be great
@@TravelAddictsLife thank for your answer. But the ship arrive at6;30am, so I don’t know when we will be able to disembark… they said it about 2 hrs after that. So I have te choice of 9:15or 11;20 for taking the train. What do youhink
@luciecleroux8758 I saw that there is a train at 9:45 that should be fine
Thanks so much for your help. I live watching your videos, they are so informative and fun@@TravelAddictsLife
We are thinking about taking the train from FCO to the cruise terminal. Do the train stations have escalators so we can get to the platforms? I have an artificial shoulder and knee and could use the assistance to get to the platforms. Thanks.
Hello there, thank you for your comment. In FCO yes there are escalators in Civitavecchia no, there are elevators but they don’t always work
Hiya great video I have a couple of questions. Do you know timetable for shuttle bus or where one can find this info? If there are lots ships in port wondering if only 1 bus running etc impacts ability to get to train station on time. Re train tickets to buy online so you need sign up account? If do return ticket but change time coming back does this void ticket or is this allowed?? Also heard lots strikes trains don't run is this true are strikes pre planned etc so can check before arrive buy tickets etc if strike on. TIA for info
Hello Rachel thank you for your message. We were not able to find a timetable for the shuttle but when we were there last November there was a few of them waiting at the port. You can find some more information on this page: civitavecchia.portmobility.it/en/shuttles Regarding the train you can change the ticket before the train departure. In fact we did change our as well. Usually strikes are planned a few days in advance, at the moment we haven't heard of any strikes anytime soon.
@@TravelAddictsLife Thanks for this info. Note on that website has shuttle price as €6 each way fyi. Is a wee while until my trip but handy having info now on times where need go buy tickets etc so thanks for sharing!
Helpful videos. When I go to the TrainItalia site and look up tickets for Oct 5th at 9am, all it shows me is afternoon times. So I tried some other dates and the same thing all afternoon times? Am I doing something wrong?
Hello there, you are right if you try to do a search for 9am it will give you only afternoon trains. It might be a weird bug on their website. I was able to see morning train if I enter the time for 00:30 (12:30 am) all the morning trains become visible. Very strange
Question! Where do you purchase the shuttle tickets that take you to the train station? Do you pay for them once you get on the shuttle, or can you pay for them in advance? Thank you!
We bought them on the shuttle
Does Termini station offer any assistance for disabled travelers?
What app did you use to view the bus time schedule? Thanks.
On the Trenitalia app you can see the schedule
How long would you recommend planning for total trip time from Rome to Civitavecchia? I am trying to plan backwards so we can make sure we are back at the port on time. If we want to arrive back at the ship between 6:30pm and 7pm (7:30 all aboard time), what time would we need to be leaving the colosseum to get to Roma Termini get the train, (I know exact travel time depends on which train) and then catch the shuttle and get back to the ship? (Is there always a shuttle waiting or would we possibly have to wait for one?) Our plan is to do the colosseum tour last (if we can get tickets) so that we finish there and head straight back to the train, so I need to play what time entry I want to try for.
Hello Nancy, to be safe we would recommend 2 hours just in case the train has a delay. Usually those local trains are pretty punctual but you never know.
question: 1. How long do you estimate disembark from cruise ship? 2. I'm sure there is a line at the shuttle bus area, SO, should I wait to see when I get on the bus, before I purchase the train ticket (on the app). Thanks. I've watched this 3x
If you disembark it all depends on how long you cruise line takes to disembark your bags. You can definitely buy the train tickets on the bus
How long the entire trips takes? Google says 3 hours from fco to the port. But just wanna see if it really takes this long
Yes from FCO it takes approximately that long it all depends on the connections between trains
Does anyone know if children aged 9 and 12 have to pay for the shuttle? Thanks for any help. And Thanks for this very detailed and *informative* ;) video
We don’t know for sure.
Was there a luggage compartment on the bus also and was the 3 Euro luggage inclusive
Yes there is a space for luggage and the price is all in
Hi, if you buy a train ticket using the app, do you need to have it printed and validated before boarding just like if you have physical tickets, or you can just show the ticket in the app?
Hello no you can just show the ticket in the phone
The trenitalia app is regionally resticted for foreign download. Tickets by pdf or paer are also a option. They dont need to be printed but rely on your phone data and battery of course
What app do you use for the train schedule you see on the video?
It is the Trenitalia app
Hello, we will be in Rome for 3 days before our transatlantic cruise back to Tampa. There will be 6 people in our group. We will all have luggage. Would you recommend getting to the port this way or go with a cab that can pick us up right from our AirB&B and drop us off right at the cruise ship?
With 6 people probably a cab is a better option. Just book the cab in advance because you will need a mini van
@@TravelAddictsLife Thank you for the info and the video. It is really helpful.
Does the bus to the train station leave from outside the ship or outside the port gate?
Just outside the cruise terminal door
regarding the bus you don't mention if they accept credit cards or only cash and if cash is exact change required?
As of February 2024 it is cash only
What is that App on your phone to track train schedules?
It is the Trenitalia app
@TravelAddictsLife thank you 😊
Thanks 🙏🏽 planning to do this in May this year
Let us know how you like it 😊
Curious, Trenitalia states that I cannot download the APP in my country? I am using a US based phone while currently moving to Canada. So I only have a US phone at present.
Is this APP not available to US phones?
If you can not download the Trenitalia app you can try trainline app it works well too
Can I pay for the bus using my credit card and if I missed one of the trains scheduled for certain time, could I just redeem the ticket to get on the next time?
Hello there, last time we went they did not accept credit cards but you can use credit card to buy the ticket on line. You can change your ticket prior departure on line or at the station.
sorry, one more time: from FCO I take a train to get to Rome Termini. from Termini there is shuttle bus to the civitavecchia train station, then train to port. ?
Not quite, from FCO you take the train to Termini. From Termini you take another train to Civitavecchia train station and from there you take the shuttle to the port.
@@TravelAddictsLife Grazie mille
Where's your video for Rome to Civitavecchia?
Watch the last third of the video
To be the first in line to get off the ship, what time do you think people start lining up to get off?
Depends on what time the arrives in port!
@@TravelAddictsLife Virgin states 9am disembarkation time.
@LH2299 then half an hour before should be more than fine
Do you recommend buying the BIRG ticket?
We have never used it looks like a good deal but we don't have any direct experience using it. Sorry
@@TravelAddictsLife Thank you & have a great day😊
Where is the app for link for the Train tickets app?

Can you pay the bus and train with credit card?

Can a credit card be used, or must one pay in cash?
Cash only unfortunately as of February 2024
What’s the app called ?
