- Simulation of varying degrees of sensorineural hearing loss with audiogram illustrations. Any questions regarding the video, feel free to ask. I am also considering starting a similar account regarding eye health!
I'm 15 years old, I have profound hearing loss in my right ear. This video elaborates what it is like to go through my daily life, this is what I want to use to show my family why it hurts so bad when they say "your not listening" because I'm trying, I just CAN'T hear you, and I'm sorry
I have it in my left ear I’m 14 years old
don't apologize for your hearing loss- you're right-- you are trying and stay strong
I deal with this every single day.
Same
Me same
I think this was a great video. One thing I would note would have been to add subtitles for us to read once you go from Moderate to Severe and beyond. You still provided useful information that was nearly impossible to hear. While I know that was the point I still would have like to know what was being said.
Thanks Jennie! Try turning the closed captions on. If you click on the "CC" button on the lower right hand corner, you should be able to select English and view the captions that I set up.
Our daughter has minor hearing loss in her left ear and moderate in her right ear. Her hearing aids give off a screeching sound when we put them in, and her ears turn bright red. The sound is definitely overstimulating her ears. She will sing songs all day, but won’t talk to us. She does know some signs and if she wants something to eat or drink, she will let you know - word with the sign.
Ha. Good job informing us that -10db is slight hearing loss, like I’ve been tested on my hearing, and the audiologists say my hearing is “excellent”. Thankfully, people like you sharing these kinds of info has made me aware that my hearing will become rather shit, considering I blasted music my first 25 years in public.
Thank you for this. I always wanted to know how the world might sound to my hard of hearing mother who lost her hearing due to her unsafe work environment in her 20ies before any of us 3 children were born.
She has moderate hearing loss and just learned how to deal with it just like we as her children learned how to help her and communicate with her as effectively as possible.
All of us have VERY loud voices though and even now as an adult I still struggle to tone it down to something normal people don't think is me shouting at them while I'm actually just speaking normally.
It almost sounds like it does when I put my ears underwater with everything just becoming more of a mumbling sound without any sharp edges on the words.
I have a 120db hearing loss ( profound loss) in one ear and I do have a hearing aid but it only brings me up to I mild hearing loss around 50db
I could hear most of this with headphones - although struggling to understand at the ranges I have actual loss. Without headphones, and even with my hearing aids, I would not be able to pick up most of this video. My levels are roughly 100db down in my left, and 60db in my right. I was born with loss in both ears, about 70-80db in my left, and about 10-20db in my right. I am due another audiogram soon and I suspect it's going down again. However the aids really do help in restoring a fair bit of the hearing loss, and helps manage the tinnitus in my left ear a fair bit too. Always weird taking my hearing aids out as it seems to be super super super quiet afterwards for a while.
Thank you so much for this. I scored minus 80 on my last hearing test but I feel that people do not understand the daily struggle I have to understand people. As I come across okay talking okay one to one, I think people presume that I can hear quite well but in reality, I miss half of the conversation and I generally pretend I know what was said. This video gives people a real understating of what hearing loss is like.
Wow, I cannot image how frustrating it would be for people to assume you hear well and for you to half to pretend that you do. I'm glad this video at least gives people a tiny snap-shot of what you may experience day to day.
Good explanation of how hearing loss affects people
thanks for the warning about sound returning back to normal!
Sure thing!
I used to listen to music on max volume on headphones for minimum half an hour a day! I stopped after a while. I'm so worried that I have hearing loss now because of this mistake. I don't have any symptoms of hearing loss. However, that loud music for a long period of time really worries me. I don't know if I have it or not but I probably should.
Your hearing will return back to normal, you just have to be careful. I listen to it on the maximun too because I already have hearing loss and that way I can hear it normally
@@littlegrey7532 you have ig? hateing the Same problem needed to talk to someone about it
I have hearing loss (diagnosed at age 2)
hi there I have had hearing loss since I was born and this really helped my friend know what it is like for me in everyday life
Glad it was helpful for you! -Kayla
At the 3:12 mark, I couldn't hear the rest until it went to normal sound again. I also have tinnitus, with my permanent hearing loss.
I was diagnosed almost a year ago with Mild (20dB) bilateral mixed hearing loss. I am worried mine has got worse. I had to focus on the “mild hearing loss” level and couldn’t understand anything at the 40dB.... I can hear sound and my brain knows someone is talking, but it’s far too low to understand it. Nothing from that point on... I know nobody can diagnose via the web, but I am just curious...
I’m so afraid because I had no problem in 2018 (I had like -5db) then I was at - 8 dB last year then 14 now in both ears.
I don’t understand how I can loose that much I’m only in my early twenties especially this year (lost almost 10db) I didn’t use earphone or headphone since last year so I don’t think it’s the problem I saw a physician and I have apparently a TMJ disorder idk if this caused my hearing loss (and tinnitus)
@EarHealth i have a question does it damage the hearing to hear your video while I have a non treated hearing loss also does hearing loud music but only during 2-3 weeks can hurt baaaadly the hearing cause I think I damage badly my hearing doing that and hearing tests on CZcams but my hearing tests are normal please help me please
I came here because there is a kpop group called big ocean who is hard of hearing and I wanted to hear what they hear
If you have a normal hearing and this scares you, it should, because it's a pretty accurate representation. Preserve your hearing at all costs, because if it's severely damaged, even the most expensive hearing aids won't return it to normal. Speaking from experience…
I’m at the moderate hearing loss stage. Time I grasped the nettle and got hearing aids.
I am profoundly deaf in my right ear and I am getting cochlear implant surgery soon I have holes in both of my ears and that has damage my bones
Good day, can I use this on my website, with a link to here
Sorry it took my so long to respond to you. What website are you looking to use this on?
As a teen who suffers from this. I am doing This for my capstone project. How did you get the voice reduction?
I recorded my voice and imported it into Audacity. Then I used an equalizer effect (comes with the program) and adjusted the slope to match the audiogram of the type of hearing loss I was trying to simulate. I hope this makes sense, and good luck on your capstone project! -Kayla
EarHealth is there any way for us to further connect ? I couldn’t quit find the app audacity? Do you have an email. I really wanna incorporate this into my capstone.
@@eveyrose8723 Sorry it took me so long to respond. You can reach me at ear.health@yahoo.com and can download the program at www.audacityteam.org/download/.
I recently experienced sudden sensorineural hearing loss in one ear, and it mostly affects frequencies below 300Hz, at 55dB. I also have age-related loss starting around 2KHz, and nothing usefully audible below 20dB. Would you be able and willing to create and share a simulation for that profile? I would like to be able to demonstrate to my family what I actually can hear. Thanks so much.
What? WHAT!!! i cant hear you!! and i do have sensorneural hearing loss
hey do you have hearing loss if lets say, im talking to someone in a noisy environment but couldnt understand other people that im not talking to?
That's a great question that unfortunately I cannot answer. It is definitely true that one's ability to hear well in noisy environments decrease when hearing loss is present, but it can be difficult to hear in noisy environments even without any hearing loss, especially if they environment is noisier than the people you are actually trying to hear. The only true way to determine if you have a hearing loss is to have your hearing tested professionally. Sorry for not being able to give a more helpful answer.
Hearing loss is whatever, I literally don't give a shit about it, HOWEVER, the TINNITUS, well, that I do care about. I'm at -35 in my right at 4k hz and -40 at 4k hz in my left and I have a constant slight ringing. It's not bothersome but I'm woried it might get worse and will get troublesome. People kill themselves over loud tinnitus....
so If I didn't hear a difference between normal hearing and slight loss, does that mean I have slight loss?
No. Obviously its still possible that you do but this is not a test of hearing loss.
That's a great question! Actually, the difference between normal hearing and slight hearing loss is quite small and difficult to detect. It doesn't say anything about your hearing capabilities. In fact, even with a hearing loss, it is possible to still detect a difference between the levels demonstrated in this video because the sound is still decreasing as the level of hearing loss increases in each simulation. Say you have mild hearing loss, then one way to look at it is each simulation will sound like a higher degree of hearing loss to you than it would to someone with normal hearing. I hope that makes sense; if not, I can try to clarify.
Born with this sadly and it deteriorates the older we get. Mines about 3mins to the end
Ive had asprin poisoning 3 years ago and loss my hearing completely for a few days now i favor my left ear cant talk on phones it sounds like people mumble. But it really only affects speech nothing else. sadly now i use subtitles on youtube quite often i dont talk on phones. I dont feel like i have hearing loss tho just separating sounds when people talk is my problem idk maybe someone has an answer to whats happening to me its gotten worse this past year.
I'm sorry that you are experiencing this, it sounds frustrating to say the least. This is something I cannot answer; only a doctor or audiologist can answer this.
I know the feeling I can't talk on the phone I had my ears actually get plugged for months and seems to not getting better I am dealing with not understanding words at times but I can hear other sounds birds planes etc.
Margaret Zamorano did you recover?
I have mild hearing loss on the low pitch sounds
i have sensorineural hearing loss
Im 45, In last month Lost my hearing by Sensorunial hearing loss. Help me to get back my hearing power in my right ear. Rescue me Sir.
Does anyone else think the normal hearing and slight hearing loss is basically the same thing.
I couldn’t hear a difference between the regular and the slight hearing loss I’m devastated 😢
I can't hear a darn thing. Subtitles would be a great idea.
Yes
0:35 what a great way to know I have slight hearing loss :')
I have hearing issues but no body ever seems to believe me. I cannot hear very well in my left ear and I hate it
They need to make glasses for our ears.
