In this video Dr Clive demonstrates to family members what living with a hearing loss sounds like.
He explains to different types of hearing loss using a baseline example then applying a modification to match a persons loss.
The value we hope you get from watching it is an appreciation as to how withdrawn or difficult it must be for people living with hearing loss.

For me it is like hearing people talking underwater. When I can't/don't/didn't hear my mom and she repeats herself she gets mad. I was so excited to be able to kinda show her what it is like for me all the time. When I sat down and explained to her that I had found something to show her how I hear. She just looked at me and said "I don't care." She got up and walked out.
Sadly I could only reply, "I know."
There was no yelling, no argument, no nothing.
Wow I’m sorry to hear that. Least you know that me and over a hundred thousand others do care about how you hear the world just by looking at this video. I feel bad ur mom responded that way and wish you the best
I'm so sorry what your going through
That is awful. And what I’m about to say is not an excuse for it but some moms tend to be in denial when their kid shows they have an issue. Only with an outside force such as a medical professional can talk sense into her. My mom wasn’t too extreme, but she had a form of denial when I told her I needed glasses. My vision was already so bad that I started with lenses -1.5. The dr told her, “idk how she’s been able to live”. Only then I think she felt a slight guilt and then acceptance. Before this, it was “no, you don’t need glasses, you’re fine, you’re just having one of those days, etc etc etc”. I advise you to get a hearing test done and have the doctor talk some sense to your mom. It’s the only way.
@@lulu12345575 This is just like my mom. We told her that our younger brother might have adhd and we need to check if he really does have one but she only got mad at us. She’s in denial and guilty at the same time, she thinks if she can’t help him in her own way it means she’s a failure of a mother. She’s a nurse but it doesn’t mean she can do what a psychologist/psychiatrist do.
Every child deserve parents not every parent deserve a child.
This video made me cry, finally so body without hearing aids understands what we go through, I've had conductive hearing loss in both ears for my whole life from genetics
+Kaylee Kinasewich Is that so? I feel so sorry for you! I hope things will work well with you in the future.
+Kaylee Pinasewich Same!!
Kaylee Kinasewich me too!
Me toooo
Me too.
Why is this video about hearing loss without any subtitles? Seriously?
Diogo V Because it's about what it feels like to have hearing loss, not for people with hearing loss
Yes, but we, the deaf people, want to know if they are describing it right, so we can also be sure what do we recommend to our friends and family. We should not be excluded in this matter, to, among many others.
Just put on auto generated subtitles.
+Jelena B. Marković The auto-generated captions are quite accurate for this video; I tried them.
there is but auto generated
Exactly the way it sounds without hearing aids. But yes, we need subtitles for this too!
I believe they have subtitles now
@@wakafufu. lol no, they're auto generated sooo, not completely trustworthy
Holy crap I want to give a shoutout to all deaf people I think I would go insane if my hearing was like this
@@mohamedfarahhusseinmohamed6022 people can experience hearing loss later in life... not everyone is born with it
I've been looking for a video like this. I've lived my whole life with a hearing loss. I must see someone's mouth when they're speaking. I know others around me are frustrated with me because I don't hear well, and that, in turn, frustrates me.
Pulls karie into a hug
Girl I've been dealing with these issues for 10yrs.. I'm 30 now. I work at a restaurant and if my co workers aren't facing my mouth uncovered doing little hand signs I taught them I dont understand them.. unless their under 4ft in my ear.. which is hard in a pandemic.. and having to go shopping at walmart... dear lord in heaven.. I'm glad this vid was made.. people need some education.
I'm so sorry for all the people who are treated badly over something they can't change. People shouldn't be mad at you for having to repeat themselves.
will note to talk slowly to people with challenge of hearing. this video reminds us to be loud and clear!
I am 19 years old and found out that I need hearing aids because I am hearing impaired (it runs in the family) I don't know if I am young and that is why it is sounds different to me but if you make a video like this you need to put in how words change like sometimes I can hear you fine then the word tone changes and I am not able to hear that one word
This just makes me understand how bad my hearing loss is comparing to normal hearing.
And the sad part is that even the conductive hearing loss he demonstrated wasn't as bad as what I'm having.
I didn't understand about 97% of this and only grasped a few phrases. I was diagnosed with 'serious and profound' hearing loss about 15 years ago.And began noticing extreme tinnitus about 24 years ago. Never have peace. I'm sure my hearing is much worse now! Hearing aids didn't seem to help, and they really made my ears feel bruised. Maybe someday technology can help me.
Sign language?
Hi Suzu, if you are struggling with hearing aids and the tenderness they can bring. There are some lubrication products out there. They are made for you to use with your earmold to help with inserting and removing. Give your ears some time to adjust to the sensation of hearing aids. You could ask your audiologist about this or just research it online. I hope this helps.
I have genetic hearing loss and was almost completely deaf by the time I was 11
This video made me emotional when I was showing my brother because he said he has a new respect for us deaf people
(I have hearing loss and am only 17 in college)
That moment when you can't hardly hear any of it and your volume is loud.
But yet I pass all the hearing tests........
Emilee Grace that’s the point, it’s making it so you understand what it’s like to have hearing loss
same aha...
I have severe hearing loss
in both ears?
Me too. So sorry, darling, I know what it's like. :*
Joanne Soucie I’m so sorry angels my God cure you beauties ♥️.
I feel so sorry, i have mild😔
I have too in my left ear
I have a weird combination of sensioneural and conductive hearing loss, its somewhere between mild and moderate but it these simulations it seems more on the moderate end. I've been trying to find something to show teachers at school. thank you!
Hi! what application did you use for the audiogram?
It would be great if we could enter the information from personal audiograms to demonstrate hearing loss!!
Can you please show what it sounds like to have cookie bite hearing loss?
My daughter is 7years her right ear is profounded hearing loss and the right ear is severe... i hope is not too late to ear the world
For me it annoys me so much when people start talking to me when I've just walked out the room... If I'm in a different room I can hear that you're talking but not hear a single thing you are saying!! So I have to keep walking back in, but every time I walk out they start talking again!!! So frustrating and mentally exhausting!!
Thank you for posting this. I ended up on this video as i was looking to understand how people with APD hear the world. Is there any chance you have something you can post regarding how they actually hear the world or a program that allows up hearing able ppl to understand? This is very important for me to understand, so hopefully you do. Thank you
Can someone please provide some information about the hearing loss simulator program or application that was used to create this video! This would be an incredible tool for Teachers of the Deaf/HOH and Educational Audiologists to explain to parents and classroom teachers how a child hears. Plus I've been dying to let my family hear through my ears. I have a severe-profound loss in my right and mod to severe cookie bite in the other. I am a DHH Itinerant and feel this would be an incredible asset to my work. PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
This is interesting. Had to research this after watching Sound of Metal. I always assumed hearing aids sounded *just like* actual hearing.
I'm listening to this to understand hard of hearing people I tend to get really anxious/scared or intimidated when told to repeat myself probably from childhood stuff but I'm trying to understand why different people do this
What is this software? I can download it ? Thank.
I cannot hear a smoke alarm, but I feel the pressure of the soundwaves against my eardrum. When I feel the unusual pressure against my ear, I remember to go check the smoke alarm and ask family if it's going off. Sometimes if my ear is tilted a particular way, I catch the sound, but not usually.
I have basically no hearing in my left ear with my hearing aid even if someone is very close up, it sounds like I'm holding a glass of water over my eat and then listening through a solid wall. And in my right ear I have hearing loss bad but not as bad as my left, I can hear when people are very close and speaking clear. God I hate having hearing loss it sucks
Luke Thomas i have hearing ades with both ears as well. I can hear pretty well with my left but it does have some loss. As for my right I can barely hear anything. It's basically like trying to hear someone whispering quietly
I'm hearning loss person I can't hear this sound sorry😞
Deb_kanto Mazumder I would rather sacrifice ALL of my money, my items, my house, for you so that way you can have a hearing aid to hear.
Thanks for this helpful video. I will be showing this to my ASL students. Can a Deaf person buy this program?
Is it possible to have one type of hearing loss in one ear and another in the other?? I have an appointment at miracle ear on Tuesday to have my hearing aids sized and set up for me.. im 43. Ugh
Video is very close. However, they forgot to show cutoff frequencies on the sensorineural loss. I have mild and moderate hearing loss (one ear is close to the border of moderate, the other is past it but not by much). One thing about sensorineural hearing loss is high frequencies also get cut off at a point, to which no matter how loud it is, you can't hear it. You may be able to feel pressure if it's loud enough (sort of like a full ear feeling), but otherwise no. My cutoff frequencies were 14khz and 16khz when I was tested at 14. I am 22 now.
I would also like to know what program it is. I study audiology and this would might help a lot in the future to explain hearing loss to people.
Yeah I had an ear infection in my right ear before so I lost hearing for a bit and this was accurate
Thanks for great info on hearing loss
So will everyone that ages go through this at one point?
So I have conductive hearing loss is what your saying?
This video relates me because I have a daughter and she was born with hearing loss she have her hearing aids for 5 months wearing it but she still no response at all..
Quick question, i'm sorry if it's dumb but do deaf people hear some kind of white noise? The kind people with hearing hear when everything else is quiet?
How do i know if i have any type of hearing loss?
What program is this? I'd love to know
Audacity
Just wondering (forgive me if I’m insensitive) but anyone with hearing aids, do you often turn the volume down when u hear something bothersome? Or an annoying person is talking?
It happened in the Hawkeye series lol
There's??? No??? Subtitles????
Why?????
I believe they have subtitles now
I don't really think this emulation is that accurate...
how do you know
Oh it’s accurate
I could hear the base. And had to focus on the 2nd. I couldnt hear the others.. so I would say very accurate. I'm going deaf. And this vid reminded me of my daily struggles talking to people.
Mine was the third one but it doesn’t go as low as 90 just 75 and the lowest I can hear is around 50
I have hearing loss
When I’m not wearing my hearing aid most sounds I can’t hear
But if it’s a loud noise or voice then it kinda sounds like you’re hearing something further away
It’s much easier and less exhausting to hear and understand what people are saying with a conductive hearing loss (or reverse-slope hearing loss) than with a sensorineural hearing loss (or ski-slope hearing loss).
wait hearing isn't supposed to sound like that? ... baseline sounds so clear and easy
My daughter is 7years her right ear is profound and the right ear is severe... i hope is not too late to ear the world
What volume should we be on?
It shouldn't matter as long as you use the 'normal' hearing for comparison.
So deaf people can hear but really hard? I don't understand can they bear like even not clearly or can they not
Someone please answer
I guess it’s kind of like hearing loss. I don’t think anyone with real hearing loss would say it sounds exactly like their hearing loss. I have the advantage of having one good ear and one bad ear so I can compare and contrast. Thank you though. This is a nice little simulation so that people can have an idea of what’s going on.
mine is just everything is lower volume and the lost noise is a high pitched annoying noise
i can live with it but i just want it to stop
It is very informative. Can I use this in my presentation. I am a teacher teaching deaf and hard of hearing learners. Thank you
I have normal hearing and I understood all the examples
Am not deaf but its too much different guys .. am here for just experience😢😢💜💜
So conductive hearing loss sounds far away or muffled and quiet
I think muffled is the best word for it. Things aren't precise and the words run together a bit.
I’m watching this because I can’t hear clearly from my right ear I can hear but it’s muffled my left ear works perfectly fine I haven’t finished the video but I think something went wrong with my ear
I’ve been around farm equipment and construction equipment all my life and now my wife was able to hear what I hear. She gets mad when I say, “Huh, what did you say?” I read lips a lot to understand. Everything is so muffled and I always hear a steady high pitched noise. Seems like it gets worse if I’m stressed out. Now I need a cigarette🤷🏻♂️
I just found out I have conductive hearing loss
Anybody have hearing loss that hearing aids can’t help??? My doctor says it’s bc I have nerve damage…I’m just asking bc I need help on how to live like this it’s extremely difficult
Both of my ears are covered in earwax and now I can't hear at all, please someone tell me if I'll ever get my hearing back I'm real scared, I don't wanna be deaf I don't wanna rely on a hearing aid
get them cleaned by a specialist ??
@@chetoh5802 I did bro, they almost working back to normal 🙏🏼
The conductive hearing audio was kinda weird. I understood perfectly but it sounds different from the normal audio. Im a hearie
my right ear sounds saturated/distorted sometimes, instead of just a filter.
Tq
My right ear used to hear nothing. After a few weeks of using this hearing loss remedy “fetching kamkam site” (Google it), my right hear gradually began to hear again. Not perfect but helps significantly. It seems working fine with my hearing problem. I will keep using it.
Blair Painter how to get it
Dang I have conductive hearing loss
sir.i.am.hearing.loss.in.ear.24.hrs.sound.not.stop.
I couldn’t hear anything 😢
Im 12 and i cant hear at all i am really good at hiding it ive been like this for 5 years
You should really tell someone and get it checked out before it gets worse. If you get it checked early you can get it treated but by not saying anything it can get worse. Hope you do the right thing darling💕.
oh nooo
You look like William Fichtner.
Oh my lord… let me turn my headphones down from now on.
I have Acute hearing loss
i cant hear anything
When the audiogram for the worst one is better than my own... Big oof! It's different though, mine isn't really that focused on the high tones, my hearing loss is around 75-80 dB for most tones with only a few exceptions
I have hearing aids
yo dude you forgot the total hearing loss
So? How did it go at the meeting?
Fuck.
I just found out I have mild hearing loss
I started looking for information and I found this video
How did you find out?
I ran some tests because i had been having a buzzing in my ear for a long time and it hadnt gone away so..... i have tinnitus and mild hearing loss :/
cuquita blanco How big a loss do u have in decibels? And is it a loss in all frequencies?
87JuliR is 30 db in low frequencies
They all sound the same to me...
I am deaf in my right ear
I'm deaf in my left ear😊
Lol no benefit to me im hard of hearing
Me with minor hearing lost 👁👄👁
That is not all us deaf hearing hear.. Would anyone put up with ringing sounds 24/7/365?
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Oooooooooooooooooo, WEeeeweeeeeeeeeeeeee on an continues?
This is gonna piss me off if it happens to me
1:04 Thank me later
I thought that deaf people hear just silence
Not exactly. They'll most likely have tinnitus bothering them 24/7, but their brain will be used to it
Acute hearing loss: *PAIN*
You thinking about the next: jesus poor people.
The next:
