NEW Suzuki GSX-S1000GX Vs NEW Moto Guzzi Stelvio | Which One Should You Buy?

  • How does the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX Sport Crossover compare with the latest Moto Guzzi Stelvio ADV touring bike? At first glance, they seem to be mis-matched, but in fact they're both are larger versions of roadsters already available in their ranges. Suzuki raised and enlarged the GSX-S1000GT for the GX and Moto Guzzi used the V100 Mandello as the Stelvio's base. These bikes offer the potential sport tourer rider more comfort, leg room and some premium features not available on any other bikes in their range. But which is right for you? It may not be as cut and dried as you thought, as there is a lot of crossover between these motorcycles. Is the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX really worthy of the "premium" tag? And is the Stelvio really dirt-worthy?

    I have the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Aviazione Navale and I can tell you that the engine is absolutely phenomenal. I can imagine the the Stelvio would be great adventure bike.Good power and economy plus easy handling. It would be my choice.

    Nice and objective! Rare to see as most testers seem to miss their own bias. I have been riding since 1968 and owned Harley
    Yamaha, Kawasaki as well as 2 Guzzies. Each model has to be analyzed as separate from Brand itself. Im on a Guzzi V85 tt now and enjoy much the "different" nature of Guzzi from the "what everyone rides" of some other brands. I also can adjust valves in 1.5 hrs. Shaft drive is a big pluses well. For me the mid range punch as more of a thing than the high rpm horsepower. But, then again Im' not a young man any more. Greetings from the Texas Pan Handle.

      im not a young man, i have really enjoyed the v85tt, love the bike, but just traded it in on the stelvio, just wanted a little more horse power, that way the motor will operate more in the middle of the power band instead of the top of it. cant wait to spin it around, after winter.

    Don't get lost on the electronic suspension, it's not how it performs that makes it better, it's the ease with which you can change the settings. Saying that, Ducati's Skyhook is damn good, but you can still dial in a good manual suspension to great effect.

    I've owned a V85TT for some years now but its time to chop it in. Why? Whilst I love the bike, its soul, it's road presence and having a sly look in shop windows as I pass, it has been a little underpowered. Having had both the 750 and 800 VFRs I've found it a bit breatless at speed. You have to thrash it to overtake and the fuel economy drops through the floor over 80. I'd like a bike able to 'make progress' when needed. Also I've found it a bit noisy, even simply cruising at legal speeds and having put on a taller screen. So this review is both timely and welcome. The MG is well screwed together, nothing has fallen off save for the kickstand sensor coming loose, fixed with an allen key and some threadlock. But when I can I'm going to get a test ride on both, see whether heart, head or wallet wins out. Thanks for taking the trouble to make this.

    • @BlueMarbleRider
      @BlueMarbleRider  Před 7 měsíci

      Let me know what you decide after you've taken them both out and had a chance to sample them. I think it will be a tough choice, but with more power the liquid cooled Stelvio might be the bike that the V85 wasn't at higher speeds. Cheers.

      I put 15,000 miles on my 2023 Vstrom 1050 in 6 months. While I agree the seating position is quite good, the stock seat is abysmal. I bought a Corbin seat for it, and while it did look better and was easier to remove and instal, ie no tools needed, it wasn’t any more comfortable. I am contemplating over the winter what to do about the seat problem. Sure wish my 1980 GS1000G seat fit on it. I can sit on that all day.

    I live in Ontario Canada.. I have a 2020 katana...I can tell you I have no noise out of my "k5" engine.. I have ordered the GX and should have it by April. People complain about the price but you have to look at the value and that Showa suspension is worth 3 k Canadian. Yes the GX is down on torque but it's a "sport" tourer bike not an adventure bike. With that engine, suspension and everything else you get it will be a great bike I'm sure.. keep the revs up and it will not disappoint....

    Both awesome machines. I for one am glad that the Guzzi doesn't include semi active suspension. This would add a couple of thousand dollars to the MSRP and introduce the probability of future expensive complications. I'd pick the Guzzi for stunning good looks and character with more performance than this rider can use.

    • @BlueMarbleRider
      @BlueMarbleRider  Před 5 měsíci

      It's certainly a tough choice, and one which would be harder still if Suzuki added a shaft drive. I'm pretty sure Guzzi will be offering a S version with the semi active suspension - more for road touring, rather than off road. Thanks for the feed back.

    Guzzi wins in my book with Shaft Drive- no faffing around with oiling,adjusting chains at the end of a long ride. Adaptive cruise control/radar is brilliant . I have it in my Subaru XV.

I currently own and ride a 2012 Stelvio NTX and the weight is welcomed havibg to deal with not only Wyoming winds, but also passing semi trucks. Both are very interesting. As a v85tt rider, my choice for the Guzzi is obvious. But only for the shaft drive. As an all year, north European rider (moto-instructor) a chain is a negative for me. That said, this video really questions my dillema. As I am actually torn between these two new bikes. I read the comments from people from the USA about the dealership problem. But here in Amsterdam my Guzzi dealer is around the corner and maintenance on a Guzzi is simple, fast and cheap. This all said, by next summer I have to choose. You bet I will test ride them both.

      Yes, it's still young and I doubt there are any serious mileages yet. Looking at the reviews, recalls and such, the only real issue I have found with the V100/Griso engine is some rare oil weeps on the right hand side of the engine which is fixed on the first service. Whether it was a substandard supplier or poor torque check, I'm not sure. But so far, so good apparently. But yes, Suzuki tend to be bulletproof. Apart from tires, brakes, one valve check, oil, and filters, my 2014 has been bulletproof. Cheers.

    Riders rave about MG looks and character, but when it's time to pull out the wallet, they'll get the more practical bike. Or at least the smart ones will.

    I don’t know why you’re comparing a dual sport adventure bike to a sport touring bike not the same thing

      True, in that they're not marketed as the same category, but as I mention to great length in the video, they are on many peoples list as a tourer, as they will be used primarily for that function: road touring. I for one, would look at both of these bikes. Being a dirt rider too, I wouldn't ever seriously consider taking anything over 350lbs off road. The other thing you have to factor in is that they are not what they are marketed as; they are best categorized by their use. The previous Stelvio was rarely used significantly off road by most owners. It was used as a tourer. Cheers thanks for the feedback.

    This new Suzuki seems very close to the Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE LT+ with the only apparent difference being 30 more horsepower. Kawasaki could easily rectify that if they desired. Given the approx $18,500 USD price, I don’t believe it will sell well. Not many want a chain driven high end tourer. The Versys is a fantastic bike that very few buy, and has very low resale.
    I also don’t think there is much of a Suzuki vs Moto Guzzi choice with buyers. Flashy people buy Moto Guzzi, Ducati, and Aprilia. Practical people buy Japanese, and practical, value oriented people buy Suzukis - just a biased opinion. Personally, I’d never consider any of the above Italian brands. I value reliability.

    NO - I don't consider neither of THESE bikes - Suzuki will its' 4 syl. cost a fortune to service ( valve job...) + the 17'' front wheel = not good, and the Guzzi - WHAT'S the point with THIS one ??? - There is T85TT already. It has ENOUGH power, it has about same "off-road capabilities" and less thirsty ( 4.5 L/100km )...+ you CAN service it with knife and fork..... 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂

      Hi, Janzzen9095: when this video was created, the Stelvio had no active on offer, although it's v100 sibling did. I correctly surmised that it would be eventually offered with it. At the time though, it came with radar, but not active suspension. Glad to hear they've got it in the pipeline now. Cheers.

    Reading specs and spewing hype is no bike test. 19:50 minutes worth of Blah Blah but some good video.

      Where on the thumbnail or the title did it indicate it was a bike test or ride review? You might want to read descriptions of videos before you "blah blah".
